I stayed here while attending a conference at Carolina Coastal University, a 15-20 minute drive away. Courtyard Myrtle Beach Broadway was less expensive than the campus Fairfield and well worth the short drive. This is a great location near shopping, restaurants, entertainment (Broadway at the Beach, wax museum), convention center, and a baseball stadium, and the beach. ||My room was comfortable and spacious (upgraded to a suite due to my Bonvoy Elite status). The hotel and rooms were tastefully decorated, well-maintained, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. My suite had a mucrowave and mini-refrigerator, separate bedroom and living room with a fold out couch, and two large TVs. (Perfect for family or roommates.) My third floor room overlooked the outdoor pool and seating area. I only went to the pool once due to my busy conference schedule. As expected for summer, the pool was full of noisy, splashing kids with the parents seated close by. Fortunately my room on a higher floor was very quiet! (Though I expect that the 1st floor guests probably heard the pool noise.) Pools hours are 10am-10pm, generous and reasonable. ||My biggest surprise was how GOOD the food in the hotel lobby Bistro was! I usually avoid hotel lobby/bar food or full hotel restaurants due to low quality (pre-prepared or pre-packaged) or high cost (full restaurants.) This time, I was exhausted from my roadtrip and opted to eat in the lobby Bistro/bar after I arrived. I ordered “for here” and paid from the bar/counter—a glass of white wine and a flatbread pizza margherita. I was given a numbered flag and almost immediately my wine in a stemless glass and water in a tall glass were brought to my table. The seating area feels a restaurant, with options for 2-top, 4-top, 6-top tables and curved padded seating booths. I opted for a comfy booth. After a short wait my pizza, freshly prepared, was brought to my table. It was very tasty and well-presented. I mentioned it to server, and learned that they have a chef and everything is prepared in-house. A couple of nights later I ordered the tomato bisque soup and three-cheese sourdough bread grilled cheese sandwich. It was delicious and the portion was large enough to share. (I ate the whole thing!) On the morning I checked out, I ordered a hearty breakfast before my road trip. It was hot, fresh, and very tasty. I couldn’t finish it, so I took a to-go box and ate the rest for lunch from my car. Did I mention that the menu prices are very reasonable? Each entre was $12-$14. Kudos to Courtyard Myrtle Beach Broadway. You have raised the bar on my experience with hotel lobby food! I would certainly...
Read moreI had many issues with this hotel. I stayed at this hotel from July 10th-July 23rd. I was in town for a work trip. First upon arrival I was not informed that one of the two elevators was out of order and there was no sign posted. There was only one working ice maker in the entire building and that was on the main floor. The A/C unit in my room only partially worked making my room incredibly humid my entire stay. There’s no ventilation in the bathroom, so taking showers only added to this problem. Heat index was over 100 everyday so opening the windows was not an option. (Not entirely the hotels fault) but they was construction going on. They were rebuilding the awning in front of the main entrance. There was very little and flimsy fencing around the area and they were literally working above peoples heads as they walked in and out of the front door, causing a serious safety hazard. Contractors would post ladders outside of the side and back entrance doors with no signs or warnings. I actually ended up opening the stair exit door right into a ladder, causing the ladder to fall and I tripped myself. The parking lot was a one way around the hotel, the construction crew blocked off the exit but only once you got to the end. If you drove around the hotel to exit that’s where they had it blocked, so you couldn’t see that it was blocked off. Once over there you had to back all the way out and go out the wrong direction. This also caused several almost head on collisions as you can’t see around the cars parked in front of the hotel for cars coming in. When I asked the front desk about the parking situation I was literally answered with “What parking situation” and received a very rude answer about them not knowing when it would be done and they see people go down the wrong way all the time. There was absolutely no kind of sympathy or apologies. The contractors were building the new steel structure in the parking lot with raw metal I-Beams laying out. There were unsecured building materials, raw rusted steel, and equipment such as lifts left exposed, unsecured and un-fenced off infront of the hotel and in the back parking lot. Housekeeping staff was rude and constantly on their phones talking loudly in the hallways. I had originally booked this hotel for three weeks and ended up leaving after two. I’ve stayed at Marriotts all over the world over the past several years (I travel a lot for my job) and this is by far the worst one I have ever stayed at. The whole experience...
Read moreOur stay was pleasant and the hotel was a great place to rest the night before a big race. We do have a few criticisms to mention, but we are overall satisfied with the quality of the hotel.
We stayed for the Myrtle Beach Marathon. At check-in, an employee (possibly the manager) told us that the hotel had stocked up on runner type foods in anticipation of the race guests. He said that there would be plenty of fresh fruits, bars, oatmeal, etc awaiting us when we came to the lobby on race morning. When we arrived in the lobby on race morning we discovered that food was being sold from behind the bar. The prices were high and choices were limited. This is the first "marathon race" hotel I've ever stayed in that was dismal at accomodating the runners with breakfast.
The dispenser shampoo in our bathroom smelled like liniment. It smelled so strong that my wife smelled it from the other room and asked if I had opened a container of Icy Hot. When I washed my hair, the shampoo immediately burned my face and burned my back as the suds rinsed from my head. I took a small sample of the shampoo to the front desk when we checked out and told the attendant about my experience. She told me that the Marriott shampoo is always that way and we could request a separate and different bottle during our next stay. She expressed no empathy and was just short of being dismissive.
The hotel was very clean and welcoming. The room was nice but the TV was too small for today's standards and it was positioned on a small dresser that looked like it came from the 1970s. The AC and heat worked great. Most hotels now have USB ports at the bedside tables and at the work desk. Our room had no ports and only one side table. The lighting in the room was great.
The hotel staff was friendly and professional. Although the lady that checked us in and out didn't seem to care about my shampoo fiasco, she was still professional.
Parking was easy and plentiful. There were plenty of luggage carts, and the area of the hotel was peaceful and quiet. The big plus is the hotel is within short walking distance of the start and...
