I’ll start by saying that I used to be a barista, so I know a good amount about how espresso drinks should be made.
I ordered an iced caramel macchiato, and originally saw the customer in front of me get the same drink — it looked relatively dark, which made me hesitant. I told myself I wouldn’t order it, but the employee recommended it and said it was her favorite drink, so I decided to go for it.
Unfortunately, as soon as I took a sip, I wanted to scream.
First off, the drink (with a ~15% tip, about $1) came out to roughly $8–$9 for a medium (16 oz). That’s pricey — but the employee was sweet, and I wanted to tip her for her kindness.
While I was waiting, something told me to look up. I saw the same employee grab a pitcher that looked like cold brew and use it to finish off drinks sitting on the counter. Sadly, one of those drinks was mine.
That’s when it clicked: instead of a fresh espresso shot in my iced caramel macchiato — which is standard — it looked like she poured cold brew (or cold espresso?) into my drink. That explains why it tasted sour and honestly pretty gross. I tried doctoring it up, but at nearly $9, you shouldn’t have to fix your own coffee.
When I left the shop and met up with my sister, I had her go back in to ask for a remake. The employee told her they pull espresso shots in the morning for iced drinks — and that’s what they served me. I’m not sure if it was a language barrier or if she misspoke, but serving shots pulled hours ago is not okay. I’ve never heard of that practice in any quality coffee shop. And if cold brew is being used as a substitute for espresso — that needs to stop immediately.
Once they remade the drink with a fresh shot, it was so much better — like night and day. I would’ve been seriously upset to toss a $9 drink, and I hate being the person who has to ask for a remake, but this situation called for it.
Please — make drinks the right way. I’ve seen one-star reviews complaining about drink quality, and now I completely understand why. Customers who aren’t familiar with coffee might think it’s normal, but as someone who knows better, what I got originally was not okay — and honestly deserved a chargeback.
I’m glad they fixed it in the end, but this is something that really needs to...
Read moreI have been going to this location for almost 3 years since I've been working at Broadway and today may be the last time I ever go. The crew that they have in currently are rude every single time I've come in. At first I chalked it up to having a bad day, but it's obviously just an attitude problem. Last week when I was in, I watched a very elderly customer ask on of the girls if he could just grab a straw from their container, the taller girl with the black hair looked at him deadpan and said "Yes.". Then when the customer left, her and the shorter girl with black hair mocked him. Which was entirely rude and unprofessional. Today when I came in and put in my order with the young lady named Kennedy, I asked for an iced frappe with 2 extra shots of espresso. She just looked at me and said "it already comes with 3." I said yes, I'd like 2 extra. I also ordered a Boston cream donut. When I received my drink, I asked the girl who handed it to me for the donut I ordered, she told me Kennedy would give it to me and pointed to the display cases near the register. So I went to the display cases, Kennedy looked at me, got the donut, and instead of handing it to me, she walkes to the other side of the bar, plops the bag down and yells "Boston cream!". It was unnecessarily rude. After that, and the multiple wrong orders I've received, I probably won't be coming back. The new staff has been repeatedly rude and unprofessional not just to me, but others. I really hope management pulls them each aside and talks to them about attitudes and customer service seeing as currently...
Read moreOn yesterday (June 30th, 2023), my family and I went to the Social Coffee Shop. When we went to the register to order, the lady greeted us with a smile and helped us decide what we wanted. We ordered a variety of things, but the bottle of waters was not quite cold enough so my father went to the counter (where the other ladies was making the drinks) and asked “May I have a cup of ice please”. One of the ladies (didn’t get her name, but know she has blonde hair) rolled her eyes at him, scrunched up her face, and proceeded to ignored him. My father was so mad he walked out. I went to the register and asked the lady who was so kind earlier to get her manager. She insisted that her manager was on break at the moment and asked me what was wrong. So I begin to tell her the issue. She goes to apologize as well as another employee and states that some of the girls don’t speak English very well. Not speaking English very well is a poor excuse for someone to be treated rudely. It’s unprofessional, unkind, disrespectful, and very disturbing. Especially when she gave the security guard the cup of ice, right after my father asked for it. She treated one person completely differently from the next and that doesn’t sit right with me. Our money spends the same no matter what color we are! Y’all will continue to lose out on money if you keep simple minded, disrespectful people like that around working. You never know who you may encounter who just may be an influencer with over 250,000 followers on all social media platforms! Moral of the story: Be kind...
