My family and I visited this place during my birthday weekend. We had a large party of 15. The service was great until we got our checks. There were price discrepancies which we made our waitress aware of before she left the table. She came back after “speaking with a manager” and told us that the hostess gave us old menus and the new prices were not reflected in those menus. We asked to speak to a manager since the price discrepancy was at no fault of ours.
Kim, a young woman with teal blue hair, came out to tell us that the menus were old and they were waiting on new menus to be delivered. We asked why this wasn’t brought to our attention in the beginning and she said it wasn’t her problem. We asked to speak to the manager again and Kim informed us that the manager was busy. This was odd because it was relatively empty.
I noticed who I thought was the manager, Kathy, bringing drinks out to the table next to us and stopped her. Kathy informed us that she was not the manager but a family friend of the owner. She stated that Kim was the manager and there was nothing they could do about the price discrepancy.
Kim came back and stated she was the manager sometimes and again there was nothing they could do. We paid our bills and started taking pictures for our records. Kim told us we couldn’t do so without her permission and grew irate (but she’s not the manager right?). She processed our checks and told us we had to leave before they called the police. The table near us thought that it was insane that we were being put out for singing “Happy Birthday” too loud (that is what their waitress/manager/owner,...
Read moreI'd preface this review with the disclaimer that both Sushi and Thai food are cuisines I enjoy immensely individually. In Nashville there a growing number of both styles of which cater to either individually in superior quality but if you're not really picky and just want a decent bowl of Pad Thai or some average Nigiri then this might be what you're looking for.
Good food for the price hike presented in a dine in fusion Thai/Sushi cuisine restaurant. Not to many dishes stood out as specialties in either style from their place of origin, but this seems to be typical in the Asian Fusion Restaurant business. You pretty much get what you pay for in a place that focuses in two very different Asian styles of food fare which don't have a great deal in common with one another. If Koi specialized in either Thai or sushi specificaly, I believe the restaurant would be much greater as a whole but the convenience of having both comes at the cost of excellence in either. If indecision or eclectic diversity plays a role in the choice of which type of Asian food a person may prefer, then it's not a bad choice. Koi is similar to Peter's Sushi in the Asian Fusion theater but Peter's has a bit of in edge in the Thai/Sushi restaurant theme. Personally I prefer Sushi when I want Sushi and vice versa when it comes to Thai. Sacrificing the excellence of either for the other isn't for me but sometimes it's a matter of convenience for me or of...
Read moreSadly not super impressed with this place. I think my service was wonderful. However, the food was only okay. I got the salmon twist roll, the papaya salad, and miso soup. The roll was okay. The giant chunk of cream cheese wasn’t my favorite. However, they do have a cool way of showing you pictures of the rolls on an iPad, so that was on me for picking that one. The fish was fresh so that’s a plus.
However, the biggest disappointment was the papaya salad. I have had many variations of this dish. It is a spicy, salty, sour, fishy dish. That is what I expected, especially since they told me they serve the Lao way which is typically more fishy than the Thai way. Also it is usually served with something to eat it with like sticky rice, lettuce, long bean, etc. They didn’t have sticky rice so I asked for romaine. No romaine, so they gave me iceberg. They charged me an extra $2 for a chunk of iceberg. I get it, you gotta make money though. However, the dish was not spicy at all. It really lacked in flavor and it is typically such a flavorful dish. I only tasted fish sauce… that’s it. Really disappointing. I ate it as the papaya and tomatoes did seem fresh at least.
I did see people come in and order things like lo mein or other cooked foods, so that may be good. I’d consider coming back and trying something else. But unfortunately I was not impressed with Koi :( besides the...
