Decent place, but a little up tight, and they need to revisit their kid policy (they tell you they are kid friendly then proceed not to be so)
The pizza was incredible but also incredibly expensive (a 16 inch pepperoni is $28) and the beer was good but nothing earth shattering. They had lots of seating, both indoor and outdoor. The only weird issue we ran into was they themselves told us over the phone that they were kid friendly, but turns out they should probably change that message. We sat in their beer garden/patio and it was at about half capacity. To help entertain the kids, I had taken our two year old and four year old off to the side by one of their plant beds to color with some sidewalk chalk. We were between two empty tables, and were literally 20 feet away from the closest other customer. Not one, but two members of their staff back to back came to tell us to return to our table and to keep our kids only at our table. We also heard a pleasant “this isn’t a playground.” Yeah, duh, it’s a patio, hence the sidewalk chalk.
This wouldn’t be a big deal at all if they hadn’t advertised themselves as kid friendly. If they had been honest up front we would have chosen somewhere else to go to. Bottom line is they were more up tight than expected for a brewery, and need to change how they phrase “kid friendly” - something like “kids are welcome but must stay at the table assigned to you.” Next time we’re going to Fat Bottom. They don’t have a “playground” but at least they expect and encourage kids to explore and play in their...
Read moreThis place is WAY overpriced and the pizza is average at best. It is certainly not “Nashville’s best pizza” as they have supposedly been named. I decided to give it a try after watching some reviews online while on a trip in Nashville. I’ve tried pizza from many cities throughout the U.S. and this “Smith & Lentz” pizza is about the quality of “Pizza Hut”. Pizza Hut is reasonably priced for what you get, this place however is not. $29 for a large pepperoni pizza. This place also has a cute little upgrade for your pizza that they call “take your pie to prom”. This adds Parmesan, oregano, chili flakes, and a garlic butter crust to your pizza for an additional $2 charge. Most of the time Parmesan and chili flakes is sitting right on your table when you eat at a pizza place. I’ve never been charged when I’ve asked for garlic butter to be added to my pizza crust in other restaurants. The service wasn’t very good either, had to ask for most things twice before the waitress would actually bring it. They have no pizza server tools so be prepared to grab a hot slice with your bare hand and throw it directly on your plate, just try not to burn yourself. If you are in Nashville, try “Emmy Squared” pizza. It’s a Detroit style, very reasonably priced, super crunchy, and extremely tasty. Can’t recommend anywhere else as this was the only other place I tried when...
Read moreI was hesitant to try Smith & Lentz for a while due to the price comparison with other pizza places near by. This was largely due to the horrifying price hikes they put on their pizzas on delivery apps like Uber eats (around 15/20% if my mental math is correct). Had they not done this they would have received my business months sooner.
I like craft beer and good pizza. It's curiosity of the beer menu that lead me to the restaurants actual site and actual prices. I'm glad I did this. This is easily the best pizza in the area, and the chefy small plates with fresh baked bread add an extra special touch. This place is unique. The pizza menu is clearly Neapolitan inspired but chef designed. A mix of traditional and unique without going to crazy. The beer is traditional with clear European influences and done well. The passion behind this project is clear.
I wish they offered a beer darker than dark larger. An Irish stout or London porter. I know they rotate seasonally though and I look forward to st Patrick's day offerings.
I still would not pay the delivery app prices. However good this is that is not fair value for money. That is where Smith & Lentz loses its fifth star. I can't be the only person avoiding this place due to those prices. Other places hike prices on apps, but...
