One of the coolest restaurants in Nashville. The service was unfortunately not the best this time around. However, the food and approach to delivery of the various dishes and culinary execution remains one of the best in East Nashville. We came in for lunch and the brunch cocktail menu was a bit uninspiring, so I went with kombucha they had walker brothers on tap which is great. Ordered the hummus which has a green super spicy skoouge(sp?) Use moderately, and it will sneak you if you are arrogant about it. The whipped feta, think sweet savory salty and munchable. Pita on the side which is toasted on a wood assisted grill. Also ordered lamb sausage and chicken Schwarma but it came out way after the dips so not as impressed with the service so far. In fact, this was one of the worst waiters I have had in this city. She forgot to put our drinks in, then forgot to add our protien to the dips we ordered, then forgot to put our entress in, and the entire dining experience took way longer than it needed to. You know, we are all humans and we make mistakes however as a server your job is to remember. The lamb sausage was ok, it's grounded and has a decent kick but the flavor profile is more taco bell than Ruth Chris. I would recommend the lamb sausage at Luogo over this place. The chicken Schwarma would be amazing in slightly larger juicier pieces. The diced chicken takes away from the flavor and isn't as tender and juicy as it would be thinly sliced or chopped. The overall ambience is terrific and a great spot to go on a date night. You will 100% need a reservation, and if you are local, this can easily become a staple for you with their constantly rotating and changing menu. This restaurant takes allergies and aversion more seriously than just about everyone except black tap. We also ordered avocado crispy rice which was the best dish I tried. Crispy, refreshing, savory and well dressed. It feels clean as your body breaks it down without sacrificing and ounce of character and flavor. Also got the shakshuka, which is like an Indian breakfast curry with eggs. I'm not a big egg guy, but this dish would absolutely crush in the fall and winter. It's a bit incentive to put it on your summer menu tho. Also got a side of bacon(undercooked) and a side of eggs(overcooked) . The recipes are fantastic but the execution was lacking on this visit. I will suggest going on a busier night and making a reservation so you can get the best of what butcher and bee...
Read moreWhere do I even begin to describe the continual downfall of what has been my favorite restaurant for several years? It's a true reflection of what has happened to Nashville over the past 10 years; an influx of out-of-state residents evaporating an element of life here called "Southern Hospitality."
The customer service, food quality, and overall value has quickly diminished. Business owners are more concerned with catering to tourists without a care in the world for locals because, as everyone knows, Nashville is a revolving door of new customers that will surely accept the overpriced, mediocre experience a lot of restaurants now provide.
We frequent Butcher & Bee often and during this past visit, expressed to our waitress how it’s been our favorite place to dine. One of the main reasons we come here is for the roasted brussels, which of course they did not have available, so we already started off on the wrong foot. The entree menu is very limited with choices, and the one my fiancé wanted to try was no longer available for the evening, yet we were not even told until well into our appetizer and drinks.
She eventually settled on the trout, which turned out to be extremely salty and inedible, and I went for the chicken. I always have a worry with waiters/waitresses that do not write orders down; however, how could anyone mess up on two entrees? Well, our waitress did and completely forgot my chicken, leaving me sitting there for 15 minutes before coming back to check on us. Of course, when asked about my order, she said it must have been a miscommunication, which I laughed off and asked for the check. Honestly, she looked high and had clearly forgotten.
To end the evening, there is some type of benefit fee added to your bill to help pay for staff and, as a business owner myself, that just doesn’t sit right with me; especially considering the service, food quality, etc. It is not the responsibility of customers to pay for your staff; that is an issue that the owners need to revisit and stop pushing costs-of-doing-business onto the customer.
Truthfully, I hate even writing such a review, but I am so sick and tired of everything that is happening to this city I love. It’s going to be a while before we even consider coming back, and I will say, this isn’t the only restaurant in East Nashville that has started to fall from grace. Please get...
Read moreOverview: Good vibes, okay food, bad service. I would not go back with all the other options out there in East Nashville, and especially with their price point.
The good: Loved the atmosphere and the interesting wine selection (including a wide variety of orange wines and a few sparkling reds). The patio is really cool with lots of plants everywhere. Overall good vibes! The hostess was very nice and let us know if we got too hot outside, she'd find us space inside. Love that!
The okay: We got the chef's tasting and it was decent, but nothing special honestly. Overall, I was underwhelmed because I had higher expectations. Some dishes killed it and others missed the mark. The crispy avocado rice was incredible and the pita bread and hummus was really good as well. But the steak dish and the melon salad were below average. I just expected better food at this price point, especially with the chef's tasting menu.
The bad: The service was honestly horrible. Or really just our server. It could have just been a rough night for the server, but it was unacceptable. From the get-go, he seemed to be in a bad mood. We thought about asking for another server right then and there at the beginning - and we should have! Definitely not customer-focused. We didn't have silverware multiple times throughout the meal, the wine took over 30 minutes to come out (after we were on our second course), the server didn't even ask if we had any food aversions or preferences when ordering the chef's menu (he only asked allergy), and the the server's attitude was overwhelmingly apathetic. It was like he didn't want us there. We could see the server talking about us to other staff, pointing directly at us (this was after he knew we talked to the manager about the service). And when we were leaving, after getting a drink at the bar, he basically chased us out of the restaurant, slamming a highchair down as we walked out the door, very passive aggressively (or maybe even aggressively) yelling "Have a great night!" Super uncomfortable... I will say the other staff seemed nice and accommodating, so maybe it was just the server. But, man, was he bad! Definitely left a sour taste in my mouth about the...
