I am quite dissatisfied about my stay at Wilmette. If only I could recall the name of the person who helped me to address this issue properly. To start off the situation, I have planned to introduce my friend and his wife to see how Marriott is and the show him the perks and benefits of being a member. I mentioned to help the benefits of being able to check in early and check out late and even possible complimentary room upgrades. When I called the 1800 number to book a Marriott hotel for our vacation stay at Chicago, I had a very friendly representative help me locate the hotel of choice. He was kind enough to check through the listing of hotels and see which are available for my needs. Considering we have two couples and would like to enjoy the stay with some privacy, we decided that the drive further out of our destination is okay as long as there is a possible room upgrade. Therefore, the representative located Wilmette and contacted the hotel to see if there is a possible complimentary room upgrade for us. They said if there are some still available, they would gladly approve and allow it (already knowing my status as a member). Due to this piece of information, I decided to book a few nights at Wilmette and hope for the best to show my friends. Once we got there on the first night, they told us an unfortunate news, the rooms are all booked so we must stay in a one queen / sofa bed. So I figured if it is sold out then that is fine, hopefully the next day someone checks out we would be able to attain the room upgrade. The second day came around and I contacted the front desk in order to check with them if the two bedroom upgrade is available and I was told sorry we cannot give you an upgrade, it is only offered to gold members. I even mentioned to them I was told otherwise by the supervisor and call center. In addition, I have traveled cross country and been fortunate enough to get those complimentary upgrades. The factor that bothered me the most is that being a member, I expect to be given proper information about Marriott and not be misguided into wrong information. There are plenty of one queen / sofa bed combinations or even two queen one bedroom combinations much closer to our destination. If i was told this beforehand, I would not have traveled an extra 30 minutes just to get a definite "No". That was a very unpleasant situation that made the trip quite aggravating, almost lost the interest of potential new...
Read moreI was in the area for two weeks to take a seminar at Northwestern University. I looked for a Marriott property in the area and the Residence Inn offered the best rates and amenities. The free parking was a plus!
The public areas were always very clean, considering the salt and slush that was being tracked in constantly. The on-site laundry facilities were a nice touch. They were also clean and I never had to wait. The daily breakfast was a winner in my book. The oatmeal and fixings were excellent. The eggs, hash, potatoes, bacon etc. were also good. I'm sure there are those who would complain. But, hey it's free and gets you off to a great, inexpensive start in the morning. The M,T,W social events were not as "social" as I would have hoped. The food was okay, but the adult beverages were secluded away in the back and only available if you asked. I understand that it's not intended to be happy hour. But something a little more "social" feeling would have been welcome.
My studio suite was very clean and had everything I needed. There is a Whole Foods nearby, so cooking (or actually warming up pre-cooked meals) was pretty easy. Plenty of plates, utensils, etc. The bathroom was excellent with enough towels and kept very clean. The room had plenty of space for two. There was enough closet and drawer space for my two-week stay. The staff even brought extra hangars when my wife visited for the weekend.
I enjoyed the work-out room. There are dumbells, an adjustable bench, and two each ellipticales, treadmills and bikes. I joined a nearby Planet Fitness for the time I was there. But I used the dumbells and elliptical on those very cold and snowy mornings when I didn't want to go out. The work-out room was always very clean, the equipment was modern and clean, and there were plenty of towels on hand.
The Residence Inn is very close to shopping, train stations, highway, restaurants and about everything anyone away from home would need.
All things considered, it was a very enjoyable experience - just what I would expect from Marriott. Being away from home for two weeks is not always a fun time. But the Residence Inn did a great job of making my trip very enjoyable. I would definitely return the next time I'm...
Read moreSince relocating in June of 2020 for my medical residency we come back to Chicago regularly/monthly to visit friends and old coworkers. We have always stayed at the Residence Inn, no questions asked this is the place we feel most comfortable and the rates are reasonable. I'm sad to say this will be the last time we stay here. The staff are friendly especially the front desk clerks. However upon arriving to our room the first thing we realize it that despite not booking a handicapped room, we were put in one. I didn't go downstairs and make a fuss because while checking in I overheard one of the front desk clerks telling someone they were completely sold out, which means there wouldn't be another room to switch to. Then as we're putting our things away in the bathroom I see a used/opened facial cleanser bottle sitting on the shower shelf. So now I realize the room hasn't even been cleaned properly by housekeeping staff, which is disturbing considering we're still in a pandemic. I carry Lysol to go wipes with us when we travel so I literally had to clean the bathroom myself. Then my fiancé pulls the bedspread back to lay down and that's when we see makeup on the pillow and hair on the bedsheets. At this point I'm down right disgusted. I call the front desk and ask for fresh linen, and guess what....I'm now changing the bed linen. At this point I feel like I'm housekeeping staff! So now the bathroom is clean and the sheets are changed. We both shower and are eager to finally get some sleep after driving for 4hrs and cleaning our own hotel room. As soon as we lay down we both sink into the mattress, which was so worn we could feel the springs on our backs. So now we're left with a pull out bed on the couch which was even worse. So we put the sheets on the couch and I had to sleep at one end of the couch and my fiancé slept on the other end. If we didn't have our little 4lb chihuahua with us and had already prepaid we would've left and stayed elsewhere. However you can bet this review will be posted to my instagram, YouTube, and Trip Advisor account for all of my followers to see. We will NEVER...
