Barnes & Noble — Local services in Niles Township

Was very excited for B&N to come back to Old Orchard, but after visiting I am super disappointed. Yes. It has two floors but the space is used really poorly. Paper Source takes up what useable space there is when you walk in and the main bookstore is on the second floor. There is ALOT of wasted space. The book selection is pretty paired down. For example, their manga section is maybe just a quarter of what you see at other B&Ns. The layout leaves a lot of space that could be used for other things. It feels like a “boutique” Barnes & Noble with limited/curated stock. No cafe either which really seems like a miss… Yes, there is a Starbucks elsewhere but I miss the selection of cakes and other baked goods you find at a B&N cafe. Great new space but had a terrible experience with staff. I called early morning to see if they had a book. And an employee told me that they did, so I made the long drive over. When i got there, i asked one of the workers where it was and he pointed me in a direction without being specific on which table. After looking for 10 minutes, i finally asked him to help me out and he told me guess “then I guess we don’t have it.” The unwillingness to help, his rude tone, and the employees just standing behind the corner not even looking like the slightest bit like they wanted to help really turned me off about this place. I'm on the fence with this. Typically Barnes and Nobles would be a solid 5 stars for me but...after waiting nearly two years for this new location to open my initial reaction was "meh." Two levels, the lower one dedicated to paper products. The upper level dedicated to books etc. The layout is interesting the way the stacks are arranged. It seems there isn't a huge selection in each genre but enough of the popular titles.

There is no Starbucks at this location nor any kind of coffee shop.

The sale associates were helpful though the manager's customer service left a lot to be desired.
