Have traveled a good bit in the past and almost exclusively stay at IHG properties.
This is a convenient location near Trident Hospital and Charleston Southern and provides a good base if you are planning to visit all of Charleston and not just the tourist areas. You can find easy travel to pretty much everywhere from this location. Parking is simple and once you figure out to get back to the hotel there is plenty of parking to choose from. We were able to park up front every night even with the hotel full. The decor is as you would expect, they have a nice small lobby for waiting for others or meeting with your group. Breakfast had limited choices but since COVID I have found this to be pretty much the norm, they have taken away some of the choices. As to the staff, most kept to themselves but no one went out of their way to be nice or speak to you as you moved around the property a few were seen having loud conversations with other staff or playing music loudly as they worked. We have been to other locations where staff where much friendlier and more engaging. The main issue is the with the evening staff. Particularly the front desk guy at night was really too busy playing on the computer to be of much help. One particular evening my wife and I came in and neither of our keys were working, went to get help from this guy and he seemed really troubled to have to take time to re-program the keys and then told me that I must of carried the key wrong for both of them to loose its program (one key was carried in my wallet and then my wife had her's in her purse completely separate from each other). Not sure why he was so adamant to keep telling us that we had done something wrong, but he should have just kept this part to himself and apologize for the inconvenience and let it go. Overall good place to stay, it is a little on the expensive side for location and what you get. Only suggestion is there needs to be some brushing up on customer service skills and really should make this a priority since they are located in an area that is regarded as one of the Friendliest place in...
Read morecheck in & check out was fast & easy.
bkfst buffet were good. white egg veggie omelette was good as it was my first time to eat. ladies worked @ bkfst were so awesome friendly & wanted to take care of everyone.
enjoyed managers reception but we did not have time to attend every of those managers reception that week evenings.
everything seemed in clean condition. shower/tub had 2 shelves in the corner that u cud leave ur shampoo, condition, soap & shaver. of course, we always cleaned up everything with clorox upon checking in. that was why we did not want them to come in cleaning up but one time to change bed sheets during one week stay. that was it.
i reserved for 6 nights for my daddy's 84 bd reunion. after seeing my daddy being in poor health condition, I decided to reserve 4 more nights to spend more times with my daddy but it was full. Oh no, not good news.
later on, I went down to front desk to check if any available room & there was only one night available. She reserved one night for me. I told her that I wanted to spend more times with my daddy. She told me," aww, that was very nice of me".
I kept on trying to reserve any available & finally got me 2 more nights to stay. Glad I cud stay in my same room for the rest of nights.
next day she asked my hubby if he wanted to cancel the rest of my reservation & he told her that his wife took care of it". I was like what! duh.
easy to enter & out with traffic light on universal blvd that helped a lot on very busy universal blvd.
safe area but very busy hotel.
mattresses had coils. not bother us but be sure to sit down soft or ur back ouch if sit down fast on that coiled mattress.
will go back there again but will avoid that female front desk that wanted to "help" me to cancel the rest of my...
Read moreIt could have been a horrific stay. When we arrived, despite having confirmed our reservation online the day before, we were told we didn't have a room. Someone had gone into the system and moved our reservation out two weeks. We didn't expect an Elite Member to be treated like this!
The man at the front desk fixed it and upgraded us to a King room. Crisis averted!
Then housekeeping didn't clean our room on day three even though we were out of the room at 9am and didn't return until 4pm. We called the front desk and let them know but housekeeping had already left for the day. We asked if we could at least get fresh towels and they agreed to bring them up. I had to go down for ice anyway so I stopped by and got an armful of towels.
Except, as I discovered the following morning they weren't towels. Yes, I got wash cloths, hand towels and three floor mats. It was a joy to dry off with a bath mat.
I returned to the front desk and explained it was my birthday (true statement) and I would appreciate having towels, not mats. I was rewarded with fresh towels. I checked.
We went out and when we returned, our room had been serviced AND we found a handwritten note from housekeeping along with a pair of Happy Birthday balloons! That went a long way.
All that being said, please fix the second elevator. Having ONE functioning elevator to serve 4 floors of guests creates unnecessary congestion. Also, on the second floor, either fix the public washing machine or take them out entirely.
In Room 211, the shower curtain doesn't stop the water. It's clear this is a long-term issue as the bathroom floor tiles are quite loose from repeated...
