BEWARE: PEANUTS IN THE GUACAMOLE! NOT DISCLOSED ON THE MENU.
I have a peanut allergy and ordered the chips, salsa, and added the loaded guacamole. I took one bite of the guacamole and immediately began to feel my throat tingling (thankfully it was not a large enough bite for my throat to close). My friend asked the waitress if the chips were fried in peanut oil, or if anything contained peanuts. She did not know and had to ask the kitchen, who confirmed with her that there were peanuts in the guacamole. The waitress was also surprised to find out there were peanuts and that it was not disclosed on the menu. She wrote herself a note to inform the manager and directed us to the hotel lobby for Benadryl (mine was back in our vehicle). The wait staff was nice, however, I was surprised that no manager came to check on us or apologize for the ordeal. Not disclosing peanuts as an ingredient, especially when it is such a common and aggressive allergen, is extremely irresponsible. I was also surprised that nothing on our bill was comped or that a manager did not come to remedy the situation.
I tried calling the restaurant the next day to follow up on adding something to inform guests of the peanuts in the guacamole, but could not get through. Additionally, I wrote to the restaurant via their "contact us" on their website on Saturday, but still have not had anyone reach out or follow up (it is now Monday evening). I hate to leave a bad review, but this is serious and people going to this restaurant need to be aware.
I added a photo of their physical menu and website menu to show that nothing is indicated. Their menu even has a peanut note at the bottom for other items... just not the...
Read moreThe Surf Club is an amazing venue for a cozy dinner or to hold a company event. We held our annual company meeting at this site with great success! The food was absolutely delicious whether in the restaurant or catered for our meetings on the terrace with an ocean view lunch. They were able to successfully accommodate meals dealing with several food allergies of our guests at quite affordable pricing. The morning buffet breakfast that is included with each hotel room guest offered a vast variety of items. It was impressive as well as tasty. The restaurant offers a relaxing ambiance with savory dishes. Again, at reasonable prices. The service is exceptional from the Banquet Manager all the way through the ranks. Our every request was addressed with the most pleasant of interactions. As a local resident of North San Diego County we will be frequenting this establishment often and recommending it to our out of town visitors. It is a jewel of a choice whether to stay as a guest or enjoy a meal out. This has recently become a Marriott property and a venue truly up to their high standards of comfort...
Read moreThis is the first time I’ve ever written a review. We ordered the ceviche and chips with a side of queso to split, and 3 beers. (Because the first beer my husband ordered was so bad that we had them bring a different one - not their fault, my husband ordered one he’d never had, so that was our fault, and we told them so, and we wouldn’t allow them to pay for that - not that they offered, but we told them to charge us) This is when it went bad. The Ceviche appetizer was not ceviche at all. It was just fish chunks or chunks of shrimp - not sure which, sautéd in a spicy red sauce. Aweful. And the queso was a bowl of greasy cheese. I could never get it to mix together. I couldn’t stir it together as hard as I tried. It had a layer of grease on top so thick I had to soak it up with my cloth napkin to make it edible at all. I ended up leaving both dishes half eaten. Then I spent the next day and a half nursing severe heartburn. I used to go there a lot when it was Hello Betty, but I will never go back. It was a waste of $100+. (Three beers, ceviche and Queso, plus a tip was $100) The staff was...
