I have never written a review before for a hotel but after 4 nights of having a disco in my hotel room, I feel the need to warn travelers. Do not be fooled by the lovely pictures that look so peaceful and inviting. Unless you are looking for a raging party or don’t plan to sleep, this is not the place to stay. We are avid travelers, have travelled all over the world and I can tell you without question this has been my worst hotel experience ever.
The Good - The hotel is very nice, fun, funky and has everything close for breakfast, coffee, lunch, dinner. The room was absolutely spotless and very nice. The bed - well it’s a double so it is small but it was reasonably comfortable. It is very close to the water and walking distance to all that you could need, including a pharmacy 1 block away. The property managers are amazing and clearly go above and beyond to make guests comfortable. We complained about the noise, they had the bar turn the music down. They also offered us earplugs - thoughtful but really? How about be upfront and honest about what to expect. They need to make it very clear the level of noise so people don’t come here with much different expectations and have their vacation ruined. The check-in process was seamless and a lovely touch to have the welcome screen in the room. Also the extra blankets in the room are a huge plus.
The Bad - Do not plan to sleep - period. I emailed the hotel before we booked out of concern for the bar on the roof and was told there was “some noise” that can be heard in Suite 301, which is directly below the bar. Well I can tell you it is more like “all the noise”… every footstep, every slide of a chair across the floor, every loud car, every click of a heel, full conversations word for word of the people in the adjoining suite (which means they can also hear you), the electric guitar playing across the street, people walking in the hallway, every pound of every beat of music… EVERYTHING. You might as well just sit upstairs in Cococabana every night you’re here. Not only do you have the pleasure of listening to the constant pounding but you get woke up by them doing whatever it is they need to do above you at 6am every day. I have recorded the sound and would love to accompany my review with it so you can understand I am NOT exaggerating. It is so loud it drowns out the tv and gives you a raging headache. Tonight is Friday so we will have the pleasure of listening to this until midnight - ensuring we leave here far more exhausted than we came.
The hotel is lovely but is not representative of the area. It is a very rundown and dirty area of Oceanside, many boarded up shops, including the adjoining building. This is my own fault as I had expected it to be similar to Carlsbad but it is not.
The car parking 1.5 blocks away is an inconvenience but was fully disclosed.
The water pressure leaves something to be desired. The shower is large which is nice but with so little water pressure you never truly get warm.
The glass windows are lovely but you are 100% exposed to every person on the street so we closed the blinds the first day we came and have not re-opened them.
All in all - I really don’t care who you are. Suite 301 for sure should not even be rented. It is not acceptable in any way to consider charging people for this much disruption and noise, no matter how...
Read moreWe stayed at the Brick for two nights (Fri & Sat) and unfortunately came across some large issues both nights of our stay.
Here are things we liked about this hotel: It was in a beautiful building it was in a very fun part of oceanside the room looked exactly as advertised it was clean the concierge and staff were very responsive
Unfortunately, the downsides far outweighed the upsides in this case. When we walked into the room, we noticed that there were few amenities provided. Which to be honest, we love paring down what guests will need to reduce waste. However, one of the few things that we were provided were earplugs. That turned out to be a very large red flag that set the scene for how the rest of our stay went. To provide some context, I’ve lived in large cities near bustling bars for the past eight years.
The biggest downside and the reason we won’t be staying at the hotel again is the noise. I’m a city dweller so I’m very used to cars and ambulances driving by, lots of loud noises from people having fun. The bars nearby were obviously loud until 12am but we knew that and they ended their music right at that time, so we weren’t bothered by that at all! The main issue was that the rooms were very much not isolated from any noise at all.
The main door to our room had no weather stripping, meaning that there was a 1inch gap below our hotel door that let light and noise in from the hallway all night. The tenants of the neighboring rooms in the hotel spoke at a reasonable volume, but due to the poor insulation we could hear them doing literally everything throughout our stay. It seemed as though the walls were very very thin.
Our biggest complaint would be the loud noises that occurred throughout the entire night (literally the entire night, we tried to go to bed at midnight and were kept up until around 4am both nights). We believe the noises were from the restaurant downstairs. These loud bangs from presumably cleaning equipment and/or staff occurred every two minutes and shook our entire room each time they sounded, making our earplugs completely useless.
In summary, the hotel was cute, nicely located, and had a helpful staff. However, the noise pollution and lack of insulation made our stay a bit miserable, and we tend to be people who can sleep through anything! I will concede that it might be our specific room (204) that was poorly located, but the amount of noise (much of which would be fixed with better building materials and insulation) makes it seem like it would be a...
Read moreSince the Brick house management responded quickly and was very eager to make things right I am adjusting my review and hope our next experience will be much better. So we live locally and had dinner with our daughters down the street so we decided to walk over and check out the rooftop bar. Well we sat at the bar ordered drinks and notice the bartender was not very friendly. We got up and walked down more towards the DJ and sat at a table. We started talking to the two couples at the table next to us and that was great, music was great. After our neighbors left we ask the waitress for a menu, she said the kitchen was closed, we asked for maybe chips and salsa she said let me check, she came back and said yes we have that. We said great! The whole time we had no problems, we did not give anyone attitude etc. But after that a guy, assuming a manager, along with the young security guy from the door came over to us and said can you come with me. We said okay, shocked and not knowing what was going on we followed him to the elevator. We asked is there a problem? He said the kitchen is closed and there is no chips and salsa and at 11pm we have a private party and we will be asking people to leave anyway. The security guy went down the elevator with us and we left! So we got kicked out for some reason! Have no idea why! We had been there about an hour or so. Had drinks and was enjoying the music. We were not rude, disrespectful to anyone! We spend money and tip well! So we don’t understand why we got kicked out? The “manager” did not give any explanation. I want to know has anyone had this happen to them? I am very disappointed and embarrassed that this would happen to us! My husband and I are in our fifties and work hard and enjoy a night out sometimes, we are not some young punks...
