We were in town for Make it Miami so just needed somewhere to stay for the night. I picked this one based on it's price and the fact that it had relatively good reviews. I just want to start by saying that this hotel is NOT worth the price and does not deserve good reviews.||The only positive of our stay was the location in proximity to Miami University. And I guess you could say the front desk attendant was okay.||First of all, the entire hotel is super outdated and in serious need of an upgrade. Everything looks drab and not very welcoming. The room didn't look too bad but we opened the curtains and the window sill was just covered in a layer of dust, which obviously had not been cleaned recently. The bathroom is tiny with just a toilet and bathtub. When we turned on the shower head it shook so badly it looked like it was close to falling out of the wall. The toilet paper looked similar, like it was barely hanging on. Behind the bathroom door, the wall had pinkish red spots that resembled blood spots. Not sure what it actually was because I was not going to investigate. If it was blood, eww. The bathroom was nicely stocked with towels and typical hotel-style shampoo, conditioner, body wash. So that is one positive. ||The sink and countertop are just outside the bathroom door, which I hadn't seen a lot in hotels. It was stocked with make-up cleaning cloths and similar body products. No issues here.||The room itself did not look terrible and I felt comfortable enough staying there. My hotel-stocked blanket did have a stain. Again, kind of gross. This room severely lacked outlets for charging electronics. There were two outlets at the bed, which was not nearly enough for two of us. I, alone, I had a phone, watch, and fan. My daughter was also in need of an outlet. ||We experienced quite a bit of hallway noise even into the later hours, but it wasn't a huge deal because we were also up quite late.||The pool area was nothing special. Nicely stocked with towels and a good amount of seating. Unfortunately the pool was too cold. I stuck one toe in and knew there was no way I would be getting in. A hot tub would have been a great amenity.||And, finally, breakfast. It was included with our stay but was tiny compared to most hotels. Only a few small tables. We were rushed for time because we had to be at the college early, so we grabbed a few items to go. I got a few pieces of bacon and I'm not even sure how to describe what they were like. They were so thin and crispy and lacked all of the qualities of real bacon. It was almost like it was imitation bacon. Needless to say, I didn't even end up eating one full piece. My daughter had what I think was an omelet? A folded egg thing with cheese and stuff inside. Again, she took one bite and did not want any more. I believe she described it as disgusting.||Ordinarily I would not mind paying what we did for one night in a hotel ($141) but this hotel is not worth this amount. At all. I would say this hotel should be less an $100 per night, so don't be fooled. I randomly decided to check the price for a night at this hotel for Friday (the night of Make it Miami) and it was $356! I really hope nobody paid that rate for this hotel. ||I'm not a hotel snob by any means, but I'm going to be honest about the positives and negatives to let future guests know what they are getting in to. Please research other hotels in the area and be willing to pay extra for a hotel that is actually nice. I wish I had taken pictures as a warning to...
Read moreIt's a small, casual, 2-story hotel with stairs only. They've recently undergone renovations to the rooms and hallways. Our room was lovely, up to date furnishings and very clean. Air conditioning was already on when we arrived, which was very much appreciated in the 93+ degree heat we were having. The pool and hot tub area is large with 3 tables and at least 20+ chairs and open to a gated, outdoor patio. The pool area is also has 2 restrooms and a shower available, which is awesome...especially helpful if you have small children. The hotel has a business center with 2 computers, a seating area looking into the pool area and a separate breakfast area, with multiple tables and a television. Breakfast was good as far as a "cold" breakfast goes. They have make your own waffles & pancakes with many toppings. Hot sausage gravy and biscuits, bagels, toasts, danishes, muffins and fresh fruit. They also had 3 types of cereal, oatmeal with several fresh toppings, boiled eggs, yogurt, fruit cups and pre-made microwave "Mc muffins". Their coffee is outstanding and also have orange juice, Apple juice lemonade, fruit punch & milk available. Housekeeping was stellar. Not only do they accomplish their jobs well but the friendliness is outstanding & genuine! The front desk was amazing..I mean so beyond what I've come across at other hotels. They went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful and to accommodate us, unlike anything I've experience anywhere else. We stayed here because of work so they accommodated us with a late check out and allowing my children in the pool when they should not have, I really could go on and on about the service we received. Sure..the hotel is not the newest kid on the block but the upkeep, cleanliness and service are outstanding! We would highly recommend staying here the next time you're in town to anyone!! Thank you to the GM she was amazing and sadly, I've forgotten her name and Monica. The nicest, most courteous woman who really exemplifies everything you could want in an employee representing...
Read moreI was in town for a my son’s first baby so I needed a place close to the hospital. We arrived at the Best Western around midnight. Curtis, the night auditor, greeted us. This is how he introduced himself. | I don’t know how much Curtis makes, but it’s not enough. My wife and I were tired. All we wanted was a bed as we had been on the road. | Curtis was very attentive and made us feel like we were family right away. He asked us questions about family and what brought us into town. All the small talk that people do. The kind of small talk that people don’t usually remember when you walk away. I never thought much about it after we left the check in. | When we arrive at the room, he called and checked to make sure the room was up to our standards…. He genuinely wanted to know. | The room was clean and up to par. Not too hot, not too cold. Perfect to just hit the bed and sleep.| In the morning, I went down to get some coffee while the wife showered. Curtis was busy with his duties making sure everything was ready for breakfast. I passed by not thinking much about it. Curtis sees me and greets me by name. Like I had just come down stairs from home ready to eat breakfast. He took the time to ask me questions about my son and if there was any progress over the night. After some more small talk, he asked if I could leave a message with the day shift attendant if there was a baby when we checked out. Again, he genuinely wanted to know. He assured me that if we needed the room for another night that all could be arranged.| When we were ready to check out later that day I thought I would give him that update. When asked if I could leave him a message the attendant she said she was told there might be a message for him. He made me feel like I was leaving a message for my brother or a family member. | I would recommend this place to stay. It’s close to anything you need. But if you check in during the day, you’re missing the best part of the hotel. Thank you Curtis. | In a world so bad, we sure could use more of...
