We like the rooms at the Elms, and have stayed their numerous times. However, it's become impossible to get past the rudeness of some of the front desk employees. We have now observed this behavior on our last 2 stays, so I believe that this has become standard for the Elms. ||||Front desk employees repeatedly gossip and complain about those staying at the hotel - while standing at the front desk, or within earshot of the entire lobby. ||||When asked for additional towels to clean up the mess left from a broken toilet, the response was "sorry, there are only 3 towels allowed per room" (even though the room has 2 queens and a pullout).||||After guests request late checkout (standard in many hotels), some are arbitrarily charged a fee, some are not, some are told no, some are told yes, and the time varies widely. This is when the hotel is empty during the summer (but the Hampton is near full). When questioned regarding the Elms policy, the front desk is extremely rude. ||||We will no longer be staying at the Elms. We like the rooms, but they really treat customers like garbage. As shown by the emptiness of the hotel, we aren't the only ones who are dissatisfied. Stay at the Hampton, or even a VRBO/AirBNB. The Elms is in need of some...
Read moreJust got back from a two night stay at The Elms while visiting my son for his fraternity parents weekend. I'll start with the good things first. Location is perfect if you want to be in walking distance to downtown and the campus. The lobby is nice. Bed was extremely comfortable and room was very clean.||||Now for the negative. My third floor room faced the alley on the side of the building. There was non-stop noise both nights (arrived back in my room both nights at 10pm) that consisted of yelling/talking from students, loud group singing, and clanging metal sounds from the restaurants putting trash in the dumpster. The noise lasted until 2:30am both nights and made it impossible to fall asleep. In addition to the outside noise, there were several hotel patrons that talked very loudly as they were walking down the hall to their rooms when it was well after midnight. ||||Since there are positives with the hotel and because hotels are at a premium during busy times in Oxford this is still a good place to stay. I suggest bringing ear plugs or requesting a room that does not face the alley. ||||Breakfast was a grab and go bag with packaged snacks. Parking is in the municipal lot across the street and is...
Read morePretty terrible experience. If you book - make sure you ask for a room not "on the Alley" - there is a bar directly across the "Alley" from the hotel and it is extremely loud until very late. At over $200/night, it seems that the hotel should have prepared us for a sleepless night and given us an option to move somewhere else. When we brought this up to the front desk staff, they were extremely matter-of-fact about the entire situation - as if this was normal and as if we should have been prepared. One of them said "well, that's uptown for you," as if we were to blame for wanting to stay in the center of town. We had to move hotels for our second night. Would have given a TOTALLY different rating if the staff had even had the smallest amount of decency in how they handled...
