Left Field Tavern Review: A Solid Hit with a Few Quirky Bounces
Stopped by Left Field Tavern in Oxford for lunch, and it was a solid experience—kind of like a bloop single that still gets you on base.
I went with the Cajun chicken sandwich, expecting something grilled and spicy. What I got was a fried surprise. Not bad—just not what the mental menu had in mind. Crunchy, flavorful, but more “Southern comfort” than “Cajun kick.” Still, I gave it a 3.8 out of 5. Would I order it again? Maybe—if I’m in the mood for a curveball.
My buddy ordered the fish sandwich, which was massive. We’re talking “needs its own zip code” big. He liked it—even though they didn’t serve it with tartar sauce, which felt like forgetting syrup with pancakes. Odd choice, but he powered through. • Atmosphere: Cool vibe. Comfortable. Felt like a place you could hang out for a while without getting rushed out. • Prices: A tad high for a tavern-style spot, but not outrageous. • Service: Friendly enough. Nobody sang “Happy Birthday” or remembered our names, but we didn’t get ignored either.
Would I go back? Yeah, probably. Especially if I’m in town and craving something casual with decent portions and a laid-back feel.
Left Field might not knock it out of the park every time, but it’s a dependable spot for a casual meal—just expect a few quirks...
Read moreAs an aging child of the 60s I don't often leave reviews. Live and let live was my generations motto... When I've been at Miami for recruiting I enjoyed this establishment until tonight....
A great happy hour, there is a kind bartender who i talked sports with and it had a good location to relax before going back to the hotel. The food was always so-so but supporting local is important.
I was worried I was close to close so I was in the alcove when I heard this large woman who had served me in the past in a brisk but efficient manner screaming at a customer. This poor young woman had just asked if everything was alright as there had been a mix up with the bill.
Instead of accepting her apology and moving on (she definitely had paid thst seemed clear) the manager contined to berate her in a way that was out of Jerry Springer....
To be frank she was speaking like a Looney redneck like "say it to my face!".
This is just not how you conduct business. I would never want my daughter to be put on that sitsution. I walked out after hearing enough.
I am finished and will no longer be recommending this place to my colleagues.
I don't believe it is a safe or honest establishment.
I hope the young woman is ok. And I hope management can clean...
Read moreTerrible experience. My group came on graduation weekend so we were expecting a longer wait. It was self seating so we sat outside on the patio, and we told inside staff multiple times we were outside. Over two hours we were not serviced once, and had to go into the bar to order food. A big group came out to the patio and they were immediate served, because it appeared they knew the owner. We had no problem waiting longer due to graduation weekend, but the fact that this group was immediately service and we waited hours to not even get a server.
I have worked in the food industry for 5 years, and I have never had a restaurant completely ignore me service like that. I will not...
