As a life-long resident (born in 1955) of Panama City Until only recently, I was thrilled that St. Joe had committed to a project on the Marina. I participated in the public meetings and met privately with St. Joe leadership as the President/CEO of the pro-development organization Panama City Growing Strong. Our organization had strong feelings and expressed recommendations for a lower heighth and larger footprint development that would more closely match the two and three story buildings that dominate the Historical Downtown and St. Andrews waterfront areas .
Our recommendations were based on development methodologies proven to be successful in waterfront communities worldwide. Our hope was that St. Joe would be the dominant developer on the Panama City Marina therefore leading and promoting the future trend towards lesser density construction on our beautiful Bay front.
The five-story design is certainly a welcome compromise considering what heighth could have been constructed and I pray that it is sets the precedence and heighth limit going forward. As the design was revealed and the elements and amenities at the Hotel were revealed, I personally was pleased with what I believed the end result would be.
The hotel is beautiful and is placed in the most desirable location on the marina for sure! The views and vistas in that location have always been appreciated and valued. But this is where the the title of my review came from.
When I heard that the hotel would have a roof top Dining and Bar, my imagination carried me to the Historic Hotel Dixie Sherman that once existed in Downtown Panama City. The top floor of that hotel had a ballroom with a 360 degree view of the city that was spectacular! I was imagining that at a minimum, the bay side of the top floor of Hotel Indigo would be open on three sides that would give a 180 degree view of our beautiful bay!
The Missed Opportunity was that the "rooftop" Bar and Dining is a small room on the back Northwest side of the Hotel. The position does afford spectacular sunset views, and views of West Beach Drive, but only from 2 sides. The room is small and the night that we were there was full with no seating with maybe 50-75 people in the room. The ceiling is high with zero baffling so the noise level is untenable and cacophonous. It was literally impossible to carry on a conversation.
Something that you will come to regret at the bar come fall and winter is that Northwest side is where all of the cold fronts blow from. And that cold wet wind coming across the Gulf and Bay is going to drive people out off that room. Was there ever consideration of some method of enclosing that room in inclement weather?
St. Joe, I am glad you are there! This project is the anchor that Downtown Panama City needed. I wish you tons of success in this and all of your future ventures on the Marina and in Bay County. But you missed a real opportunity to make Panama City's Downtown anchor something really special!
But, hey, nobody ever...
Read moreTruly, a five-star experience in every way right on the water's edge. Everything about this hotel was posh. The hallways had a pleasant baby powder scrnt to them, and it was refreshing to go to a hotel where you could not smell weed in the hall! The rooms are not thin walled, so you don't have to hear your neighbors scream! (Although, I think the clientele here is not the screaming type.) The breakfast was divine, and served with a smile by our friendly red-headed waiter. He made sure our breakfast experience was top notch. Bedding was extremely comfortable and clean. Towels were folded in a lovely design, and there were plenty of them, and I loved the Japanese style shower. We had a balcony room overlooking the bay, and there is nothing like sitting out in the afternoon watching the sunset or watching the Sun come up the next morning! Morning! I could see hundreds of stingrays in the water below, and we caught sight of a small shark and rather large sea turtle! The open bar on the top floor was an unexpected pleasure! Our waitress /bartender was so friendly, and she was very professional. Professional. We had the charcuterie plate and a couple of glasses of wine, and watched kayakers down below in boats that had neon lights shining in the water. The hotel swimming pool is not large, but it is sufficient. The covered cabanas made a nice touch. This hotel is close to beaches, and fishing! Can come to this hotel, it does not seem to be dominated by families with small children. I was told by the front desk today that several people travel with their pets, and this staff has a treat jar for them at the front desk! Parking with easy and free right in the heart of downtown Panama City! While the hotel food was delicious, there is another restaurant right next door, about 400 ft away from the Indio hotel. The location is outstanding, the staff were professional and friendly, I loved the architectural style of the hotel, and I just can't say enough about how beautiful the viewing is from the balcony! Definitely request a water view room if you have a chance to! Amenities are nice, I found the shampoo and conditioner to be surprisingly nice for a hotel amenity. I will definitely be back to this hotel again next time. I'm in Panama City. You cannot beat the location, unless you want to be right on the beach. But if you're looking for something a little more quiet, and a little more adult, look no further than the Hotel Indigo in downtown Panama...
Read moreI recently stayed at the Indigo Hotel in Panama. I would like to share my experience regarding some concerns that arose during my visit.
Upon arrival, I expressed the urgent need for a refrigerator to store our medication on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, instead of our personal refrigerator being fixed or switched to another room. we were offered the option to store our medications in a shared fridge accessible to hotel staff. This arrangement left us uncomfortable, as we were unfamiliar with the staff members who would have access to our medications. While I trust that the employees are reputable, I had hoped for a more secure solution that would allow us to feel at ease during our stay.
Prior to booking, I reviewed your amenities to ensure a comfortable experience. It was disheartening the loss of $1,000 worth of medication without any apparent concern from the hotel staff. Additionally, the following day, I encountered a distressing situation on your property when a major encounter happened where a deceased body lied near my car, which significantly impacted my mental well-being. I tried to leave the hotel but was afraid of seeing anything that would severely impact my depression. Although some patrons of the hotel seem to be out of touch with death. It affected me entirely.
It is unfortunate that, despite these challenges, I was unable to receive any form of accommodation during our stay. Breakfast did not rectify all the medicine that we lost due to refrigerator not working. (Staff gave us a lunch bag and told us to put ice in it) By law, I am not obligated to disclose the specific types of medication I require, and I did not ask for much—simply a small discount on our stay. In turn, for trust. I disclosed the type Of medication needed to be stored. Given the circumstances we faced, I believe we warranted a more thoughtful response. However, my request was declined.
Throughout my interactions with your staff, I maintained a polite and understanding demeanor. It saddens me to think that had we been of a different background, put up an argument instead of being accommodating to you, our concerns might have been addressed more respectfully. I tried talking with hotel staff, Manager the regional Manager but nothing...
