I was injured by a kayak paddle and had no water visibility kayaking during a lightning storm. Originally scheduled for a 9pm session on Monday evening, July 21st for myself and my two kids. I received a text from Greyson with PCB Float at 7:20pm Monday informing me the session was cancelled âdue to water conditionsâ, and asking me to reschedule. The weather that day was clear, sunny with no weather or wind warnings (pictured forecast below). I responded and Greyson suggested Tuesday or Wednesday, I told him thunderstorms were on the radar for both days but said Iâd try 9pm Tuesday. As expected, massive thunderstorms with winds roll in around 3pm with marine warnings in effect for the whole area warnings for boaters to seek shelter. Pictures below show weather warnings etc. PCB Float didnât cancel this session, I texted to ask and Greyson informed me it was still a go. Upon arrival there was still lightning across the Bay Area and rain. The group was huge, we must have had about 20 people total and Jocelyn was checking everyone in and validating waivers. The waiver has you state that youâve inspected the equipment before youâve even seen it, and multiple other broad statements involving liabilities. Due to the way the staff arranges the kayaks prior to cutting the booking groups loose (to launch them yourself), I was struck in the eye with a paddle by someone. The kayaks are packed together in the dark on the shore with no space to walk between them, as pictured. Helping my 11 year-old launch her kayak, I stood at the nose of hers when a lady directly to my right brought her kayak paddle out of her kayak and spun, slicing my eyelid and knocking me into the water where I tore my knee open on the rocks and shells. We were packed in like sardines trying to launch kayaks in the dark, and this was avoidable if theyâd spaced the kayaks out at all. I was bleeding and trying not to cry in front of my kids, Jocelyn (staff) used my phone to take a picture to show me the extent of the injury because I was bleeding near my eye. Nobody offered aid or any suggestions about what to do, they just kinda said âOh noooâŚâ so I tried to rally (it was an expensive event for all three kayaks and weâre on vacation) but the whole time my eye continued to swell and I was actively bleeding with saltwater splashing while I paddled. Additionally the weather conditions ruined the water visibility, we couldnât see more than 3-4â into the water due to the murkiness from the heavy storms. We could see slightly better leaning over the edge of the kayaks (the bottom plastic is scratched from sand and rocks) and everyone else was in the same situation, leaning over the edge trying to see what the experience advertises. Meanwhile there was still lightning striking beyond the seawall that was making other kayakers uneasy and the waves were uncomfortably high unless we paddled behind the inflatable obstacle course as a wave break. I reached out to the company afterwards and they never responded, possibly because they already have my $263 so they donât really care. Tourists are temporary, but for what itâs worth I legitimately regret taking my kids on this experience. So yeah, I sound bitter, but now I have a black eye thatâs getting attention everywhere we go and I canât go swimming with my kids with the open/unhealed wounds I got from PCB float. What a great start to our vacation, and no response from the...
Read moreAwful. I dare to say worst thing weâve ever taken our kids to do in our life. Our youngest was afraid for her life as they sent us out in turbulent, dark waters. He was having to yell the instructions over the waves & wind, but told us that if he needed us to come back or if weâd gone too far, he would toot a little whistle for us to come back.đ How would we possible hear that?! Meanwhile, he told us we could kayak very far out into the bay in the middle of the night. Around the whole hotel next door. When I say the waters were turbulent, this is an understatement. My husband & daughter had an entire kayak full of water. They paddled back to shore to dump it & my husband asked if it was normal to have so much water in there. The guy told him that heâs seen them all the way filled with water without capsizing. And that if that happens, you just wouldnât be able to control it very well is all. Everyone in all parties went back in very early. There was no seeing any sea life at all in those waters. We felt like we were literally fighting to keep our boats afloat. He also told everyone, including little children that life vest were not necessary. In response to me telling him, after we got off, that there was no seeing anything in those waters, & that it was way too turbulent, he said âyep, I had a feeling, but my boss told me to just send them out anyway.âVery dangerous. When I asked him about sharks, he said donât worry, I havenât seen one in 3 months. Not like he could see them in those waters anyway. Iâm not convinced that if we would have fallen off, we wouldnât have gotten eaten. When my husband asked where the rescue boat is in case someone falls out, his response was that he would paddle out on a water bicycle. He said, donât worry, it goes a little faster than a kayak.đ We have no idea why we were dumb enough to even go out there & take our children after hearing all of this stuff & seeing the water conditions the way that they were. Ridiculous. But regardless, if you are thinking of doing this, I would definitely make sure the water is completely calm. Honestly, if they donât tighten up, youâre gonna be hearing about this place on the news. The pictures they have up of people smiling, & casually looking down at marine life is a joke. They just want your money. Not concerned about your safety at all. Read the review from the other one star. That one was more like...
Read moreOur light battery stopped (which was dim compared to second battery) and we had to paddle all the way back in to get one that worked and then paddle all the way back out to where we were, which wasted part of our hour and we were not offered extra time to make up for it. Everyone in our group had a reservation, so everything should have been charged to 100% prior to our arrival. When we arrived, we had to wait for lights to be put on the kayaks, so our instructional/briefing period was also on our hour of time, although we are told to be there 15 minutes early (another place on information said 10 minutes) for instruction/briefing. The young man was very polite, but seemed overwhelmed with the amount of kayaks needed, even though we all made reservations. This was our first time coming and was even a surprise for my husband, and I was very upset/disappointed that we were not not given the total hour that we had paid. I normally would not give just two stars, but I had planned this special surprise trip for my husband and it all just just seemed disorganized, which made us not have the full hour we paid. I really doubt we will return due to the...
