Overall our family had a wonderful time in Park City and the Waldorf Astoria added tremendously to our experience. This property felt like a resort and had all of the amenities we could ask for. The property was very nice and we especially enjoyed the personal customer service which the hotel brand is well known for, the valet and car service that we used often, and the free smores that our kids partook in every night. We had an issue with our refrigerator on our first night which cascaded into the early part of our vacation which is the main reason for removing a star, otherwise we would return to the property.||Rooms: We stayed in the Junior Suite with Kitchenette 1 King room. This was our diamond upgrade from the Guestroom with Gas Fireplace 2 Queen room. For diamond members wondering about upgrades, we were told the hotel was at 28% capacity (so not full), we tipped the front-desk agent $100, and explicitly asked for a complimentary upgrade; the upgrade we received was the standard next room up which for us was fine. ||However, we were a family of four and we brought our dog on this trip - with hindsight we probably would have paid for more space. The room we received was a normal hotel room, typical of a standard king or 2 queen bed setup, the only difference that made it a "junior suite" was the small kitchen area that included a two electric stovetop setup and microwave. I would not recommend the Junior Suite with Kitchenette 1 King room if you have 4 (or more) people and would definitely recommend a larger room as our space seemed tight.||Valet and Car Service: Easily my favorite part of the stay was the complimentary shuttle service. We used this service is a lot and it was very fast and easy to use. For pickup at the hotel, simply head to the lobby and ask for the shuttle. For pickup outside of the hotel, simply text the driver or call the hotel. The most we needed to wait was 8 minutes but typically the cars would arrive well within 5 minutes; we really liked this service. In addition, the valet staff (who also operated the shuttle) had great customer service and always made us feel welcome.||Pool: We used the pool area everyday mostly after a day of excursions. During our stay the pool area was never crowded. There was one large pool, two jacuzzies, and a sauna. The pool area also included towel service in which the attendants would consistently setup your chairs, drink and food service in which the attendants walked the pool area consistently, and complimentary sunscreen. The pool was also heated which we enjoyed, although there were significantly varying temperatures in the pool during our stay. On one day the pool almost felt like a jacuzzi, and on a separate day the pool was heated but not nearly as warm as when it was heated to jacuzzi levels. Shoutout to Marius for the excellent pool service!||Restaurants: We tried the Powder restaurant during breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food was delicious for each meal and we enjoyed the service during breakfast and dinner, although during lunch we had to flag the staff after sitting down a while just to take our order and this service level continued throughout lunch; perhaps consider only going to Powder to breakfast and dinner. We also utilized room service and ate at the pool. Overall, the prices for the restaurants and food are what we would expect (which are higher-than normal prices), but we paid what we were expecting to pay and the food quality was good. ||Pets: The hotel is very pet friendly. We brought our little yorkie and the hotel was certainly pet friendly for our little doggie. There were several relief areas for our yorkie and all of the hotel staff were friendly and welcoming to our dog. In fact, we saw several parties with dogs at the resort. The hotel additionally provided a dog bed and dog bowl that was complimentary during our stay. One thing to be very aware of is that if you have a dog in your room, the hotel staff will not enter the room unless there is someone from your party present; that is, for example, if you leave the dog in the room then hotel will not...
Read moreMy wife and I planned a weekend getaway to relax and visit the spa. Our weekend was not a horrible experience, but definitely not something that you would expect from a Waldorf Astoria property.
When we checked in, we were told that we would get a space available upgrade (one of my Diamond benefits). However, the person at the front desk did some clicking, walked into the back office, and then came out to tell us that there were no space available upgrades. That is fine, except later I came down to find a couple checking in later than us (with a different front desk agent) that was given a space available upgrade.
Upon check-in we were given a paper with a QR code for the room service menu. The QR code did not work (it just opened up to a website that was no longer in service). When I brought it to the front desk, they confirmed it was not working and told me to just "visit our website and find the menu's". (I noticed that the menu's online do not have any prices listed. You may want to add that. Someone staying there has no idea if their bill will be $250 or $400).
In addition to that, the hand set for the phone in our room is broken. The only way to make a call was to use the speaker phone, which is very staticky and difficult to hear. Our fridge had the leftovers from the room's previous occupants, and our TV had a burn-in spot. We also had bugs. We killed 5 moths during our time there (most about an inch long). We noticed a couple more as well but could not kill them due to the high ceilings).
None of this is terrible, but definitely below par for a Waldorf Astoria (I have stayed in 4 others before).
The most frustrating part was on our spa day. We had the full 5 hour spa day that included lunch. They scheduled 1 hour for lunch in their Powder Restaurant (from 1-2 pm).
I joined my wife for lunch, and there was only one other party in the entire Powder restaurant, and they had already finished their food. My wife and I ordered our food at 1:07. I ordered the burger and my wife ordered the fish tacos. We were expecting that our food would be ready in time to be back to the spa at 2 pm (after all, this was the schedule included in the spa package). However, by 1:30 we still had not received our food. We asked the staff and they assured us it was coming. By 1:45 we still did not have our food. By then there were two other parties that had arrived, ordered, and received their food (including one that had ordered a burger, just like us). We again asked the staff, and they said it was on its way.
Long story short My wife decided to go to the spa and see if they could push her next treatment back so she could have time to eat. They were able to accommodate her. However, they could not push my treatment back, because they were booked up with massages the rest of the day. By 1:56 our food was still not there, and I was forced to leave and go to my massage with an empty stomach (for the next 3 hours). Our food came at 1:58 pm, and I was already gone and unable to eat it. My wife had to hurriedly scarf hers down in order to make it to the second part of her spa appointment that had been pushed to 2:15. Because of this poor service, there was no lunch with my wife (just sitting in robes drinking water), and I had to pay for lunch that ended up in a to go box.
The spa treatments themselves were great. The only problem with the spa was that I ordered the Waldorf Signature Facial from the spa menu as the one that came with the package. This was listed as $185. When I checked out I discovered that they gave me the Hydrafacial, which is $289 ($104 more than the one I ordered). Of course I had no idea what facial treatment they were giving as this was my first ever time getting one, and my eyes were closed/covered the whole time. So being forced to pay $104 more for my treatment was a fun surprise.
In summation, I would have to be honest and say, an average (albeit expensive) hotel with mediocre service and fantastic spa treatments. That is what the Waldorf Astoria...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I stayed here one night for a staycation to celebrate our anniversary.
TL; DR: would stay here again if the price was right, but would ask for a room on the third floor and not near any major foot-traffic areas. Also, I probably wouldnât eat onsite except maybe for breakfast.
Pros: -Staff were all friendly and attentive -Property was beautiful and generally well-maintained -Room was very comfortable (except for sleeping which Iâll detail in âconsâ); we were upgraded to a king suite due to credit card benefits / Hilton status -there is a complimentary shuttle that will take you to downtown Park City and back throughout the day / night -the front desk staff promptly resolved incorrect charges for my spa treatments and comped us some on incidentals for issues mentioned below
Cons: -our room was adjacent to the exterior door, and the door slammed several times throughout the night / morning, waking us up each time and leading to us not sleeping well (in addition to the toilet flushing noise mentioned below). Would have asked for a different room if we were staying more than one night -each time someone above us flushed the toilet, it sounded like fist-sized rocks tumbling down the plumbing, which also interrupted our sleep. We were on the ground floor, so this probably wouldnât be an issue on the third floor (though might still be bothersome on the second floor) -we werenât aware of the complimentary shuttle until we Uber-ed downtown and saw the shuttle dropping folks off; this probably should be mentioned on check-in or in the paperwork given to you upon check-in -the A/C was set to a similar temperature as at home, but the room felt much warmer. My boyfriend got up in the middle of the night to turn down the AC and we were still a bit warm after that. My recommendation: crank the AC here so you can sleep in the summer -the down comforters are unseasonably warm for summer and we ended up not using ours and were still too warm, despite the thermostat being set to the same temp we always sleep at -the food was generally mediocre. We had lunch at Powder to use a food credit, and our southwestern chicken sandwiches were quite light on the chicken - probably half as much as would have been reasonable. We had breakfast here, too, due to this being included with my credit card booking and the blueberry French toast was pretty good, but the breakfast burrito was very plain. Latte & smoothie were very good. -We had guaranteed late (4pm) checkout due to booking through my credit card, but apparently their systems are âantiquatedâ and cannot handle extending card access for rooms, pools, buildings past normal check out times (12pm), so new cards must be issued (and you have to visit the front desk to do so) to extend your access into the afternoon. Whoever checked in my boyfriend forgot to mention this, so I found myself locked out of the pool area, which was a bit embarrassing, and also locked out of my building. I called the front desk to regain access and they were going to bring me a card at the pool, but were unable to find me so my boyfriend, who was thankfully in our room, was able to come let me in. Not a huge deal, but was a bit frustrating / embarrassing. Iâd expect a 5-star hotel to proactively activate new cards for guests and text you to arrange pickup or delivery in the room -thereâs a $48/day charge for parking your car overnight, which I wasnât aware of until checkout -I got a manicure at the spa in the afternoon and it was chipped by the next morning. Usually dazzle dry polishes last ~a week for me. -I was incorrectly charged for an add on spa treatment (resolved with front desk as...
