I made a reservation for 4 people a few months in advance for Christmas Eve Dinner. Arrived and the hostess brought us to a huge round table in the back that seats 8 to 10 people. I requested a different table as we would not be able to hear each other speak. We waited a bit and got a better table. Then the waitress reviewed the menu. I specifically asked her if the Niman ranch lamb carpacio with arugula was a bed of arugula with a few pieces of meat. She said yes. The appetizer arrived and there was no bed of arugula, just 4 small pieces of carpaccio with mostly frisee on top. The waitress was not very good and got confused when trying to describe the dishes. The entrees of swordfish were not not very good. The pieces of fish were very thin....not what I usually receive at a nice restaurant. I asked to order a bottle of wine that was also available by the glass in case we needed an extra bit of wine. The waitress suggested a 2017 La Crema Pinot Noir. This is a wine that I am familiar with and buy here at home for around $20 a bottle. When the bill came the bottle of wine was missing. My husband brought it up because he is an honest man and wanted to pay for the wine. Then the revised bill was brought and they charged us $95 for the bottle of wine. I was expecting it to be around $50. (I did not find out until later when I asked my husband how much it was. If I had known I would have questioned the staff at the time. Since my husband was honest he got screwed.) I think that is outrageous price gouging. When I go to a nice restaurant I expect better service, more fare pricing, and better food. The first time I went to Powder the waiter was excellent and the service was delicious. Very...
Read moreWe were really excited about enjoying a great lunch after our spa treatment. I was with my 4 adult children enjoying a special get away. Our orders were taken and when the food came out, it was brought by someone other than our waiter and they just started putting the food in front of anyone rather than asking who's meal it belonged to. I ordered the chicken oriental salad with crispy rice noodles. It was anything but crispy and the chicken had skin and red veins in the salad. I took two bites and couldn't handle anymore. I told someone who looked like the restaurant manager about the salad and he offered to replace it but I did not want to even try another salad and the kids were half done with their food by then so I just asked for the tomato soup. It came but without a spoon. My two daughters ordered the necoise salad with herb crusted tuna. The tuna came raw and tasted fishy. The girls did not want to make a fuss since I already did. The waiter brought the bill but did not remove my salad. Evidently the other person did not even communicate with our waiter that the salad was removed and replaced with the soup. I asked the waiter to please remove it off the tab and told him about the girls salad but he didn't even offer to comp the necoise salads. I will never eat here again. I am a regular to PC and love going to the Waldorf for the spa experience but the food at the Powder...
Read moreFantastic service, but spotty food.
This restaurant was right across the street from our hotel and quickly became the goto for dining. The service was always exceptional. The entire wait staff was very friendly and worked as a team to ensure we were happy and well served. Their training is spot on becaues even the new girl did a phenomenal job.
The Cambridge Salmon Eggs Benedict was delicious, as was the Thyme Crusted Tuna Nicoise. The Waldorf Ceasar was fantastic and the trio of creme brulee was delightful.
Unfortunately though, some of the food didn't live up to my expectations, especially considering the price. The French omelet was bland, and if the pork schnitzel had ever seen any seasoning during cooking, it would surprise me. You need to get the salt in there at least immediately after frying so it pulls it into the dish. I tried after it was delivered. But as with most things, it needed sto be properly seasoned during cooking to achieve the correct flavor. A little dill or mustard sauce would have gone a long way on the dish as well. At least you could tell that the oil was fresh, because the was plenty of it. The mushroom crusted sea bass was overcooked and dry, and the 7 layer cake...
