We are Park City Westgate owners, have been coming up from Salt Lake to the resort 1-2 times a year since 2011 and we love staying here. I have been coming to Park City annually for over 25 years, making it the place where I am the most experienced at being a tourist.
Our fondness for Westgate made this visit to Drafts Burger Bar all the more disappointing... Other than getting Tatchos as take-out a few years back, this is the first (and likely last) time visiting DBB. I will start by saying the service on a Saturday night was good, reasonably fast and I happily give that 5 stars.
However, like many local restaurants in Park City, their menu options all seem to have fancy / exotic ingredients (I call them froofy ingredients). In many Park City restaurants we have been to over the years, it feels to me that they are pandering to the tourist/money crowd and I am not their audience. For this reason, we have made it a policy to stick to chain restaurants when in Park City (Unlike almost any other place we travel where want to try the local places).
I was in the mood for a burger when I got here (something more than basic), but that feeling quickly went away as I looked at the menu options. Every burger/sandwich has at least one ingredient that I find strange and when I am paying this much for a burger, I get annoyed to have to have them alter it. In protest, I ended up just ordering a Strawberry shake to go, which was pretty good. My wife got the Blue Moo with a gluten-free bun and said it was good -- apparently she likes steak sauce because it was drenched in it. She did make a point to say that their gluten-free bun was the best she has ever had. I tried a few of my daughter's onion rings and they were pretty good with the right balance of onion and crispy coating.
My son's basic burger was too much for him but, because he is 13, they wouldn't let us order a kid's meal burger. Most places don't make a fuss about the age of the child if all they can eat is a kid's meal, but this place does.
I feel generous in saying that their food offerings and strict kids meal policy earned them 3 stars (at best) with very little in the way of value, so averaging the service & offerings is how I...
Read moreFor customers looking for titular beer or burgers without food allergies, Drafts is probably a 4 star establishment. I personally enjoyed truffle tots. For those with food allergies, eat at Drafts at your own risk! They are thoughtful enough to provide cards where one can write down food allergies. However, that is where forethought appears to end. They do not check orders to ensure the food they provide customers is allergy friendly. You may potentially be served food that contains allergens that can cause you or a loved one a life-threatening reaction!
My wife has numerous allergies, including many of the more common items such as nuts, gluten, dairy, soy and eggs as well as a few more. I provided an allergy card to them and ordered the the quinoa sunflower seed black bean patty burger ("Boujie Hippie"), so long as it was safe for her. I again asked while it was being prepared if it would be a problem with her allergies, but wasn't given any comforting assurances. When the order was ready, I asked them to double check. I was told the bun was gluten free, but I asked it possibly had other allergens. They simply did not know the ingredients to rule out if it possibly has eggs, soy, dairy etc. They made the effort to provide a new patty without the bun, but I had to persist in my inquiries to learn that they use "regular" flour in the patty.
They graciously cancelled the Boujie Hippie from the order, but I was left with cold food--which did not need allergy restrictions. I spoke with the manager on duty, Tom. While he wanted to talk with me and make this right, I told him I had been waiting for 30 minutes for the order and wasn't interested in wasting any more of my time. I told him I appreciate efforts to make this right, but at this moment, they have everything wrong when it comes to food allergies. The false assurance of providing an allergy card form for patrons and failing to ensure items are safe is alarming. I usually don't provide imperatives in my reviews, but I feel it's necessary here. Keep your loved ones with food allergies away...
Read morePlaced an order to go. I’m gluten free so asked for the GF bun on the basic burger. They asked if I wanted the fries, I asked if they were GF she said no. I said, okay well I’m GF so I can’t have gluten. She said I could have the Caesar salad. Great 👍 she said it would be 15 minutes. I showed up 15 minutes later and the hostess was taking individual to go orders for a large group who was undecided. The family in front of me was going to lose their minds because they just wanted to be seated and had been waiting for some time. Another 15 minutes went by and a lady brought a to-go order out. I asked if it was mine and she looked at the receipt in the bag and said no. The family in front of me asked a passing waitress if she could seat them and she said it’s too late, they close at 8. They had a hungry mom and kids and they were understandably upset. Especially because the sign on the door clearly stated they close at 9pm on Sunday. So they left. Finally the group was done ordering with the waitress and then she grabbed the order that the other lady said was not mine. It was mine. I could have easily paid at the bar for it and been in my way 15 minutes earlier. Got back to our hotel and the Caesar salad was covered in croutons. Why on earth would I pay extra for a GF bun and then want croutons in my salad? I was planning to share this with my son. By the time we got to eat and discover that we couldn’t eat half the meal it was infuriating. The hamburger itself was so tiny. I would have expected at least some sauce or ketchup or something on it. My son has had bigger kids meals. Way overpriced. Still hungry. Probably wouldn’t have been so upset about it if we had gotten it on time. By the time we got to start eating we were then starving. What a waste of...
