RESIDENCE IN BY MARRIOTT SAVANNAH AIRPORT -Don't stay here! Spend your money elsewhere. The entry to the hotel looks like it should be the back door. It doesn't look welcoming. We drove around looking for the front door only to find that the door that looked like the back door was actually the front door. Even though not is use because of COVID the pool was dirty. There are plenty of choices in the area of this particular hotel. Don't be fooled by the website or the beautiful photos online. It is not as beautiful as the photos. Read all of the reviews! There are multiple complaints about the staff and their lack of professional behavior. It is evident that they have a lengthy history of poor customer service. Corporate must not care because the reviews state this over and over and over again. Let me add my review and echo this: EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! Our room was not clean. It stunk! My sisters and I booked here for a very special occasion we checked in on Friday, August 6th. Our misery started immediately. As soon as we checked in my card was charged immediately. A hold was placed for an amount that was more than the total cost of what was quoted. The total of my stay was supposed to be $866.36. This amount included taxes. The hold placed on my card was $950. When I asked why. I was met with rude unprofessional behavior. They said for incidentals, but the way in which they communicated this was rude. It was late and I was tired and didn’t want to press the issue. This is something that should be communicated at booking.
Our room was 105. The room smelled as soon as we opened the door. The first thing we noticed was that the room was not vacuumed. There were potato chip crumbs and other debris on the floor, there were stains on the lamp shades, the sofa/pull out bed was dirty (stains on the arm of the sofa). The vent cover had a layer of what appeared to be dust/mold. The bathroom wasn't clean specifically the shower. The furniture was dusty. When we went to the front desk to let them know this the staff was very rude and unprofessional no sense of urgency. There was a group of three staff members standing at the desk chatting it up, laughing, and hanging out. They behaved as if we were bothering them. They acted put out. We had to sleep in filth for one night because the hotel was booked full for the night. The next day around 4 pm we were moved to a new room on the 3rd floor. Housekeeping was limited due to COVID we had to request clean towels because housekeeping didn't come by the room. On day 2 we went down to the front desk to ask for clean towels and again we were met with unprofessional behavior. We didn’t feel welcomed at all. We were made to feel like we are bothering them. We received towels but not wash cloths. They said no wash cloths were available. We had to come back in the morning. Really???? Matter of factly. No sense of urgency or remorse. No apologies. No concessions. Nothing. Just rude demeanor. We changed our own trash. Finally on day 4 when we checked out another charge appeared on my credit card. When asked what it was for the lady said she didn't know. I expressed my concern, but it fell on deaf ears. So I had a total of 3 holds placed on my card $950, $210, and $181. I can go on, and on, but I won't. We kept hearing the excuse because of COVID staffing shortages. This is why the room was dirty. Really? This stay was horrible! I did not feel welcomed at all. RESIDENCE IN BY MARRIOTT SAVANNAH AIRPORT you failed! You can only blame so much on COVID. Is the rude customer service due to COVID? Get off the COVID crutch! I would never stay here again. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. If I could rate it a...
Read moreI came to Savannah for 1 day for a funeral. I checked into the Residence Inn by the airport for the convenience of an airport shuttle for my early morning flight the next day.
I check in with a very sweet front desk agent, get my room key a bit early, confirm that the airport shuttle starts at 7am, then enter a room with an overwhelming smell of bleach. I assume this just means the room was freshly cleaned and that’s why the fan in the central ac is running at full blast. Plus since I am almost 6 months pregnant, I have gained “super smell” powers. Fine. I can deal with this for a little.
So I lay down for a 20 minute power nap before getting dressed for an incredibly sad afternoon and wake up to find that my new Gap maternity pants have bleach all over them. Destroyed. Apparently the smell wasn’t the room itself but the sheets, and the now out-of-stock pants that seem to be all I can truly fit these days are ruined. Honestly, I wanted to cry.
I reach for the room phone to call the front desk to have the sheets changed immediately - no dial tone. I grab the living room phone - no dial tone. Oooof course.
So I call from my cell, no one answers the front desk. I call back 2 minutes later and someone sends housekeeping up right away. Really polite housekeeper apologizes for the bleaching and changes every bit of the bedding plus opens up all of the windows to further air out the room.
After I return from an emotional difficult burial and repass, I grab the destroyed pants and bring them to the front desk so the manager can see the damage with his own eyes. The housekeeping manager admits that they have been using bleach to clean the “nastiness” today and he apologizes but doesn’t know how the GM will rectify the situation once he comes in on Monday. They’ll call me Monday...
I wake up and go to the free breakfast, highlight of my stay, and then at 7:10am go to checkout and request the shuttle. The front desk agent explains that the driver won’t even arrive to work until 10am. Excuse me? I double checked this yesterday at check in!
Cherry on top to a memorable experience.
So while completing checkout, I tell him about how i was told it would be here at 7, that my clothes had been bleached, and that the whole stay has just been draining. Word for word he says, “Well...it looks like you’re gonna survive it.” Then calls for the next customer. .... I ate a second breakfast in the lobby while waiting for my Lyft.
Conclusion: Do...
Read moreStayed at the Residence Inn in Pooler for a few nights recently in Feb 2024. Weekend getaway to revisit visit Savannah, having lived in the area 2014-2015. This property was under construction while I lived there. Since this hotel is near the airport, my expectation is the property has likely seen heavy use since opening and it there are some limited signs of that. The staff was very helpful, provided all the important info at check in and recognized my Bonvoy tier and was able to guide me as to the location of the room and the nearest entry door. We had a king studio which is nicely laid out with a a countertop bar seating rather than a small dining table. Since I work while traveling, the wide desk with electrical power sockets on the back of the desk and a desk chair with a working height adjustment was a welcome feature. The kitchen was sufficient for the stay, there were dishes and glasses for 4 people (nothing missing) and dish soap, scrubber, towels and soap for the dishwasher provided. All the kitchen appliances worked although the light in the hood over the burners was not working (I tend to use this as a nightlight for safety at night) . The hanging lamps over the counter were fitted with bright fluorescent lights and could stand to be replaced with softer LED's. I loved the dressing area and bathroom layout. There is a large tray that can accommodate a large sized rollerbag, and the bathroom is designed with only one door placed so that it does not get in the way when open. The walk in shower has no door at all, just a glass panel on the end with the shower head shielding any water spray form the rest of the bathroom. The shower control on the other end allows the user to turn on and adjust the water temperature without having to enter the shower. I love this idea. Another nice add is the body soap, shampoo and conditioner fixed to the shower wall - this has appeared in American hotels in recent years where it has been a standard in hotels in Europe and other locations for a long time. I did not frequent the public areas much as I was only at the hotel at night, but there is a breakfast served mornings and I was able to get the basics to start the day there. Overall, a great stay and I would stay there again when visiting Savannah...
