We needed a good lunch before boarding a plane in Savannah for a cross-country trip. Now, I love burgers, and one of my favorite burger chain joints is in the area. I also considered eating at my favorite fried chicken chain, also in the area. But we decided to try something new, and we're glad we did!
Chicken Salad Chick is located just a few minutes from the Savannah airport. We arrived a little before noon. Entering the restaurant, I noticed how fresh and inviting the interior was. The walls are painted a light shade of green with a darker green used as trim. After entering the correct door (there is an "enter" and an "exit" door), a queue area leads to an order counter with a well-organized menu board on the wall behind it. A friendly staff member took our order, we proceeded on to the beverage station to get our drinks and then on to our table. There was plenty of seating, with both tables and booths available in the dining area as well as some outdoor seating.
About five minutes later, a food server brought our meals to our table. As she dropped them off, she asked if there was anything else she could do for us. She came by our table a couple more times during our meal asking if all was okay, and also offered to clear our table after we had finished eating.
My wife and I both ordered a chicken salad sandwich. I ordered the Classic Carol, which is the basic chicken salad, and my wife ordered the Fancy Nancy, a chicken salad that adds apples, grapes, and pecans. We ordered our sandwiches on wheat bread and opted to have the bread toasted. The browning on the bread was perfect! Some places that "toast" their bread just barely get any browning on it. The toasting on the bread for our sandwiches was the perfect color and covered the entire surface area. Nice!
I liked my basic chicken salad. The taste of the chicken was not drowned out by other overpowering flavors. It tasted fresh and delicious! I tried my wife's Fancy Nancy, and the additions of apples and grapes offer a great option for those who desire a bit of sweetness to their chicken salad.
As for sides, we both got a soup to accompany our sandwich. I ordered tomato bisque soup and my wife got loaded potato soup. Both were full of flavor and pleasantly hot. My wife also ordered a grape salad, which features fresh grapes mixed with a delicious sweet cream sauce, and I ordered pasta salad, a salad made with rotini pasta with artichoke hearts, olives, feta and parmesan cheeses tossed in an Italian dressing.
Everything we tasted was fresh and full of flavor. And everything about the restaurant exceeded our expectations: the pleasant interior, the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, and the delicious food. We expected it to be very good, but it was even better than we thought it would be.
We both decided that this will be on our short list of places to go when we need to get a meal before heading to the airport. It offers fresh, healthy, delicious food at an affordable price. I'm looking forward to returning so I can try more of their chicken salad varieties. There are...
Read moreI've been to many Chicken Salad Chicks and normally not disappointed but this location was unfortunately not one of those good experiences. The young lady I ordered from took my order and read back what I ordered. Which was a trio (fancy Nancy on croissant, broccoli salad, and loaded potato soup.) and my husband order, to go. Luckily we decided before our continued long trip to just eat at a table. I opened my meal and noticed I did not get my broccoli salad. I went up there and asked for it explaining I got the trio and that it was missing. The young girl whom I just ordered from 5 minutes before didn't remember me ordering and gave me 21 questions like she didn't believe me. Even asked for my receipt. Which I happened to throw away thinking I didn't need it any longer. I told her I threw it away and she said "well that's weird it wasn't in your to go order ." I reassured her it wasn't. She finally asked for a side to go for me. I started eating it and after the 5th bite I chewed into a sandy brown piece which I thought was a dried cranberry. Nope it was dirt. I threw it out after that. The chicken salad, fancy Nancy, was basic and barely had any of the extras like apples and grapes. I've never been so disappointment from...
Read moreI had had this food catered at my workplace a few times in the form of sandwiches but it was my wife that decided we should go here for lunch.
There is a LOT more selection than the two basic chicken salad sandwiches that were at my workplace. (What's the deal, boss? Why the lack of veriety?)
The food is delicious. I can imagine everybody having their own favorite chicken salad veriety. My favorites are Jalepeno Holly and Jamaican Me Jenny.
My wife and I are regulars now. We order "The Chick" which gives us two little entrees for $7.99. I try different pairs every time I come. I'm on a mission to find the perfect pair.
Other info: the staff is very friendly, the place is clean and delightful, you despense your own fountain drinks or tea, there's cheesecake, you get free little cookies whole wheat crackers and pickles with The Chick. You can order to-go and you can order it ahead. There's plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, you seat yourself. The food always comes out fast (think 1-2 minutes) but that depends on what you order. If you're in a real hurry, there is a fridge with already made containers of chicken salad in every veriety so you can...
