My husband and I just stayed here in the Captain's Quarters and it was a fantastic experience all around. When you first walk in, there is a sweet little sitting room with a book nook and a beautiful view; this little room being first adds an extra level of privacy that we loved! Through a second door is the bedroom which is incredibly spacious even with the King sized bed, dresser, several small tables, and an electric fireplace/heater. The bathroom was cozy and immaculately clean. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the breakfast that was served. The first morning was an egg bake that made me question if I truly disliked eggs because of how amazing this egg bake was. It was followed by delicious gluten free pancakes and a sweet/salty chicken sausage. The second breakfast was just as delicious with a fruit and yogurt parfait followed by gluten free breakfast quesadilla and eggs that were just as tasty as the first breakfast. Natalie the hostess was amazingly kind, personable, and ready to have a great conversation over breakfast. She also made sure that we had any and everything we could want why we were there and made herself available to ask for anything if we needed. All around a 10/10 experience and we will be returning the next time we have a long weekend...
Read moreI'm not sure whether it's Jim or his dog Cutter who ultimately makes you feel immediately welcome but either way...from the minute the door opens you feel like this is your home, even if it's just for a few days. I had never stayed at a B&B before, I have always been a bit of a hotel kinda traveler, but I think this experience may have changed my mind. It was simply put...just lovely!!! We stayed in a suite with a very comfy cozy bed where the waves from the ocean lulled us to sleep. We awoke each morning with the smell of coffee brewing downstairs and Gail cooking up our first meal of the day. The beach house is steps from the ocean and also very close to all the best shops, restaurants and pubs. Each day we would go down, chat awhile with the other happy looking house mates then off we would go to explore the city. Probably around 4p, it was back to the Beach House for a little R & R and possibly a nap. It was always so very quiet and peaceful. Then we would get up and head down to the living area where we could enjoy a glass of wine before heading out for dinner. If you are planning a trip to Port Townsend any time soon I highly recommend you stay with Jim and Gail at Commanders Beach House. They will make your stay in Port Townsend a...
Read moreMy husband and I, sometimes with family members or friends, have returned to The Commander's Beach House annually for at least twenty years. Immediately adjacent to the casual, spacious lawn and prolific garden is a sandy beach, perfect for walking and beachcombing while, on a clear day, viewing the Olympic mountain range crowned by Mount Baker. Sea birds are abundant; if you are lucky, you might have the opportunity to watch quietly while a blue heron fishes for supper. Open a window at night to hear waves lapping on the shore. Awake to fresh sea air, sunrise views and ever changing parades of cloud formations. | The historical house is casual and comfortable, creatively decorated to reflect the nautical heritage of Port Townsend. Proprietors David and Natalie provide warm hospitality and delicious breakfasts. Four immaculately clean guest rooms are located upstairs; our favorites are the Lighthouse Suite (best sea and mountain view) and the Captain's Quarters, each with private bathrooms.| Located a short walk away is the historical, charming downtown district with an ample supply of shops, galleries, restaurants, a theater, a playhouse and a museum. | Our favorite months to visit are May and September or October, less crowded...
