We didn’t even get a chance to eat here. We were turned away because we didn’t have reservations on Mother’s Day. We were okay with that. All we wanted was a bowl of clam chowder, but we weren’t even allowed to order take out. The initial vibe and eye contact with the lady behind the counter was very awkward to say the least. There were three ladies in front of us and when they were done checking in, the hostess said, “let me take you to your seats, there are people here.” We waited patiently and during that time we saw a Mother’s Day menu taped on the counter. When the lady returned we informed her we wanted to see the menu. She told us the Mother’s Day menu was the only menu for the day. She also said, if we didn’t have reservations, we wouldn’t be able to dine in because the restaurant was already fully reserved. We asked if we could order to go and she said no. Not for today. We left feeling very discriminated and with a very bitter taste. Yes, we are a minority family, however, we have been to many restaurants and establishments and have never ever left anywhere feeling the way did here. But, we came across The Old Whisky Mill. Yes, there were reservations already made here. Yes it was busy. But they found a way to get us in for a party of five. The Mill Burgers are huge and delicious along with the tasty fries. The Salmon Fettuccine was superb. The service was great, the food was fantastical, and above all, we truly enjoyed our time while dining at The Old Whisky Mill. More importantly, “Mom” was overly satisfied with everything at The Old...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped by this place after having it recommended to us by a friend. Unfortunately, our experience was less than ideal. We arrived at the end of breakfast as they were transitioning into lunch, so we were understandably asked to wait 20-30 minutes and enjoy a beverage while we waited. We decided this was acceptable and we took a seat. It ended up taking at least 15 minutes to get waters delivered and then another 15 minutes to get menus. Once we ordered, it took another 15 minutes to receive our food. With other things like waiting to be seated and waiting to place our order, it took approximately an hour before we ate. We also noticed that other tables who had arrived far after us were served first.
When the food arrived, my wife's fried chicken burger was somewhat small and the potato salad side was bland and had hard potatoes. My Manila clam lunch special was fine, but for a lunch meal, it felt like there were fewer clams than in an appetizer version of this dish that I've had at many other places. During our meal, we were never checked on by the waitress, nor offered refills (despite her walking by us with the water pitcher), and we generally felt dismissed despite several attempts at eye contact. We also overheard other customers commenting about the small portion sizes.
Overall, the food was not bad, but the service could use improvement. Other patrons seemed to be more willingly catered to, so we are not sure if our disparate treatment was because we are not locals or for...
Read moreOk, here's an update to the review below. Today, about a month after our last trip to HPC, we went for lunch. It was far better than our 2 previous breakfast trips there. We both got hamburgers. Mine was the Green Chili Burger, hers was the Black and Blue burger; both were delicious.
As locals, we've been going to Hudson Point Cafe for years. One of our favorite spots. Some time recently, ownership changed, as did most of the staff, it seems. The menu is the same, but not the food coming out. Eggs, asked to be soft poached were hard boiled in the middle. We sent them back, he told us it be about 5 minutes, it was over 10. Potatoes that used to be crusted in paprika, now barely have a dusting and were either super crispy or undercooked. The service was poor as well. They decided to close 2+ hours early right after we were seated. There were only 4 or 5 other tables with customers, but the server barely checked in with us. We ordered coffee, the cups he brought out were half full. When we flagged him down halfway through our meal for more coffee, he told us it would be 5 minutes because he had to brew another pot. Did he really think that half a cuppa was going to be enough? Again, more than 10 minutes. This was the second trip to Hudson Point in a row that was less than satisfying. We tend to go out to breakfast at least once every 2 weeks, but I don't think we'll risk Hudson Point again for...
