No visit to Port Townsend is complete without a visit to this local institution, which as been delighting young and old alike since 1977. The ice cream flavors are sophisticated without being absurd. Look for local fruits like Graysmarsh strawberries or local red currents and raspberries to show up in their ice creams, sherbets and Italian ices. Chocolate lovers will find an interesting selection, including the refreshing Swiss Orange Chocolate and the rich and dark Blind Love. The seasonal selections are some of my favorite flavors. Lemon Custard is my idea of a perfect warm weather treat, but Lavender Lemon Sherbet is a close second. I start looking for their white Licorice ice cream in October, and Christmas isn't really Christmas to me without a scoop of Eggnog or Date Nut Victoria with a cup of smooth toddy coffee. Any time of year is perfect for a scoop of Ginger ice cream with hot fudge sauce and topped with a piece of chocolate covered ginger from their candy shop. Besides the wonderful ice cream, it is just a pleasant place to hang out. There is always a selection of local art on the wall, a hand-carved mechanical glider for children and a patio with tables in back with a view of the Salish Sea. If you get your ice cream to go, you can stroll out to the sea gallery and sit on covered benches along the waterfront, or walk out along the piers. And something else I really appreciate: the bathrooms are...
Read moreI first encountered Elevated Ice Cream's quaint establishment 6 moons prior to my visit today. In that span of fleeting nycthemerons, I've sampled many of their offerings. Did I mention they give free samples yet?
The folks at Elevated have been slinging their own on-site creations since 1977. According to their website, they started as a vendor in an old Victorian elevator across the street from their current location within the bustling village of Port Townsend.
While they don't have 32 flavors, they do have the classics covered. Familiar tubs of chocolate, strawberry, mint chip, cookies and creme, sit next to a variable assortment of "elevated" things you would never expect to find in a cozy 50s malt shop atmosphere. Curiosities like cardamom, sea foam, and golden milk, to name a few.
Never have I had such luscious and silky confections! But they don't stop at ice cream, shakes, and itallian ice! They operate an adjoining fudge-candy shop which is teeming with modern, homemade, and old timey treats from yesteryear.
I can not suggest this place further for fear of wearing out my typing thumbs or phone screen. So if you have a hankering for something sinfully spectacular, you should swing by. They even have containers of their small batch ice cream ready to go.
Well done elevated. I shall keep on...
Read moreI really enjoy stopping by this shop whenever we're in Port Townsend. The ice cream is tasty...portions can feel a little small for the price, but that honestly feels secondary when you take in the charm of the area and the atmosphere of the shop. What keeps us coming back isn't just the ice cream, though...it's the people. There's one employee in particular, Caleb, who consistently makes our visits stand out. He's friendly, attentive, and genuinely seems to care about making each interaction a good one. Even when the shop is busy, he goes above and beyond to make sure we leave with a smile. My family always looks for him when we stop in, because his presence makes the experience memorable every time. To be fair, we've had the occasional interaction with other staff who came across a little distracted or less engaged. It's never ruined the visit, but it does make Caleb's effort and warmth stand out that much more. Overall, we always leave happy, and this shop has become one of our regular stops thanks to the great atmosphere, tasty treats, and overall good service. (And the chance to stroll by the water afterwards doesn't...
