Pioneer Place — Local services in Portland

From top to bottom Pioneer Place houses a Regal theater with 6 screens; Punch Bowl Social, which is a restaurant on one side, and a bar/game lounge on the other with bowling, arcade games, ping pong, karaoke and more; several diverse clothing shops like H&M, Eddie Bower, Louis Vuitton, and Scotch and Soda, which, If you haven't had the pleasure of visiting, that last one is your typical over priced ragged clothing with $100+ ripped tshirts; a variety of stores selling everything from toys to Oregon made items to suitcases; and a food court. There's also some office space in the second part of the building, because the whole thing is split across a street, with a sky bridge and an underground walkway connecting them. It is a pretty cool experience. My first time here I was secretly really excited about walking underground like it was a secret passageway, and there's a sparking pathway laid into the flooring of it so it is really almost magical as a kid. Punch Bown Social can be fun if you are willing to pay for everything you want to do. If you want paddles for ping pong, you have to pay; obviously bowling you pay for the shoes; prepaid cards for the arcade, be on the lookout for ones stacked on top of the card machine, people leave them because there's an extra 25 cents or so, so you could get a part of a game out of it.

Overall it's a shopping center+ meaning the focus is shopping for most people, but then you can refuel at the food court and relax at Punch Bowl Social or catch a movie at Regal. This is a large one block wide historic location. It has the Tri-Met ticket office and Oregon info center in one building, a Starbucks in the corner of the square, the KGW radio station in the opposite corner and a few food carts at street level on the South side. The other buildings are actually underground. There is an iconic signpost that points to different places in the world and gives you the distance to each place. Including the distance to Tipperary which is given as "A long way ". You can also find the distance and direction to such iconic locations as Timbuktu and Walden Pond. Hosts many different types of events including Friday night Flicks on the Bricks. So named because the entire square is paved with bricks. Each brick has the name of a person who donated the cost of the brick or more towards the construction of the square. They they host flower shows, Farmers markets, concerts and more. Each Christmas they put up a giant Christmas tree that's at least four to five stories tall or more and is lit up spectacularly. Here you can catch the east/west bound Max red and blue line trains and the green/yellow northbound Max right across the street. South bound Max green/orange trains are just one block east. Bus stops for most TriMet buses and even a few C- Tran buses from Vancouver, headed in all directions can be found on fifth and sixth avenues within just a few blocks north or south...

We were so excited to visit Portland. It’s been since the 80”s since I have been back.

This mall had great reviews but half the stores don’t exist anymore. There are only 3 food options and a few snack type food places. Parking was super hard to find, roads are hard to navigate. A few Locals were super rude as we walked trying to figure out where we were going. They did not offer any help. The homeless have trashed the streets. A homeless lady kept acting crazy and followed us into Target and then she peed herself.

I don’t understand why people have let Portland get this way. It’s gross, it’s sad and something seriously needs to be done to the city I was born in. The zoo was way over priced at $60 for a couple so we didn’t go. The Japanese garden was closed for repairs. The traffic was super hard to navigate. Get better signage and direct tourist where they should go to enjoy your city and be safe, if that’s even possible. There are remnants of the riot protection stores had to use, which I would assume that means the area is still not safe.

We managed to find a cool vintage toy store-Billy Galaxy. So worth the trip. But there was no parking we had to walk by some sketchy places.
