This hotel was very pretty however I was disappointed with the service and stay. The lobby staff was incredibly nice and the stand alone cafe had delicious coffee! We drove up from Southern California, total it was a 19 hour drive. We got there around 7:45 pretty exhausted and ready for a shower and bed. When we got our room keys and went up the room was a mess. Literally someone else had been staying in it and no one had gone in to clean. So had to come back down to get another room. The lady at the front was very helpful and apologized for it and gave us another room fairly quickly. The room was decent enough however some of the appliances did not work. The mini fridge in there was mediocre and never really chilled anything(we brought our own water). The shower was the second worst of it all. Horrible pressure and the shower head had so much calcium build up and the stream coming out were horrible too. We stayed for 3 nights and not a single time did anyone come up to tidy the room up and replace the towels and glasses with new ones or make the bed. For a 4 star hotel I at least expected fresh towels. No parking that belonged to the hotel and valet was expensive at $45 the night. They chalked it up to “you can come and go as you please”. We opted for street parking since we weren’t going to be staying inside the hotel all day long for the three nights and we’re fortunate enough to have always found parking right in front. I’d say definitely park on the street instead. The hotel doorman was friendly however after already seeing my friend and I leave and later park and exit my vehicle the day before the next morning after our coffee i notice as I was heading back up to my room that he was across the street LOOKING IN THE WINDOW of my car. And not just passing by looking. But literally hand on glass peeping in!? I went outside not realizing it was him and asked if something was wrong. He immediately went back to the hotel door and said no I thought this was my buddies car??? With California plates? In Oregon? That just felt very weird to me. My friend also went down on the last night to relax in the lobby when she couldn’t sleep. She was basically the only one there with no one at front desk either. She accidentally left her cardigan and didn’t notice until the next morning and front desk says no one saw anything? Just again a little weird because it was last midnight so really little to no foot traffic. You’d think front desk staff would have noticed. But no luck the cardigan was lost.
All in all it was a decent stay. I would say this is a four star hotel but it’s definitely a good stay and friendly staff. The lobby was beautiful with all the plants so I’ll...
Read moreThe Woodlark is very instagrammable but falls short beyond that. It is quite pricy but on par with the other semi-luxury hotels in Portland. We chose it above others because it looked aesthetically beautiful, thoughtful, and clean. The public spaces are indeed all of those things, but the room itself and the general experience left some things to be desired. First, we had to wait a bit when we arrived (at like 7pm!) because the front desk couldn’t figure out if the room was ready. Ok, fine. We get checked in and the room itself was T I N Y. That is somewhat to be expected in a downtown hotel room, but we splurged for a Corner King room, so we were expecting a bit more (like somewhere to store suitcases and clothing out of sight). Nothing major was off with the room, just a lot of small details - there was a dirty wine glass behind the mirror in the bathroom, the USB plugs didn’t work on one of the nightstands, we couldn’t connect to the internet because the front desk had typed in our last name incorrectly, they only had 2 flavors of Salt & Straw, which was one of the amenities we were most excited about (we REALLY like ice cream 😬). I hesitate to mention the construction noise next door that started at 6-7am every day because it is not their fault, but the guys at the cigar store across the street said that project will be going on for the next several years & is a luxury hotel. I hope Woodlark is able to up their attention to detail in order to compete with both the noise and the future hotel. I do want to note - the entire staff was lovely,...
Read moreThe Woodlark is definitely full of character, style & design! The location to the center part of the city, shopping & top notch restaurants is amazing. If you stay here definitely check out the food trucks in square, 1927 Smores 2 blocks west & the coffee shop in the lobby HOWEVER know that if doesn’t open until 8am which is a massive disappointment. In the 20 minutes I sat in the lobby 15 people between 7-8am came to order coffee to which they were all turned away. As it’s one of the only coffee shops within a few blocks… what coffee shop opens so late & know it closes before 4pm. Atleast an earlier hour during summer hours would be better serving to the clients staying at this hotel.
They have bike rentals however snatch them up early as they were checked out for the majority of our 3 day visit. Additionally the rooms KNOW while design is amazing & you’ll sleep like a rock on the amazing beds, the rooms are TINY! You have more space in the bathroom than the rooms.
I know a ton of people complained in reviews about cleaning & noise… we didn’t experience any of that in our room on the 5th floor. They provided ear plugs but we didn’t need them. They are building the new Ritz next door so Monday which was our checkout day there was some noise however it was so loud it woke us up.
Overall I rated it a 4/5 for the amenities, design, kindness & cleanliness of the hotel & room. We would definitely stay again...
