I want to start by saying that I have always been a fan of the Nike brand and have a deep appreciation for Portland, a city I hold dear. However, my recent visit to the Nike store in Portland left me quite disappointed due to an unfortunate encounter with a sales staff member.
Upon entering the store, I was excited to explore the wide range of Nike products and potentially make a purchase. Unfortunately, the enthusiasm quickly turned into frustration as I encountered a sales staff member, who is an mid-aged African American woman.
I was browsing the kids' shoes section(FYI: my foot is quite small like teens) and, in an attempt to find the right fit, I decided to try on a pair of shoes. Because no one paid attention to us, me and my wife at that time, we had no choices but tried it by ourselves. To my surprise, suddenly the staff member appeared and seemed irritated when she noticed me trying on the shoes without her assistance. Plus, she assumed that I was not wearing socks and she pointed it out. She proceeded to reprimand me, stating that shoes on display were not meant to be tried on without asking and that I should have requested her help. Oh man, she never tried to help us and never looked us before I tried on it!
I was taken aback by her tone and approach. I was wearing socks at the time, and her insistence on these rules felt more like scolding than customer service. Furthermore, I would have welcomed her assistance in finding the right size or discussing the features of the shoes, but she never asked about my preferences. It seemed as though her primary intent was to reprimand rather than assist. Her demeanor was reminiscent of a kindergarten teacher chastising a misbehaving child. This encounter left me feeling uncomfortable, unwelcome, and even questioned my decision to visit the store in the first place.
Thankfully, another staff member helped me finally. This staff provided the kind of customer service I had hoped for - helpful, attentive, and understanding. They helped me find a suitable pair of shoes, proving that positive interactions with customers can truly make a difference.
In summary, my experience at the Nike store in Portland, Oregon, was marred by the encounter with the sales staff member. While my loyalty to the Nike brand and love for Portland remain intact, this incident has left a negative impression on me. I hope that the management takes note of such instances and ensures that all customers are treated with respect and courtesy, regardless of their background...
ย ย ย Read moreDefinitely a nice layout, so you do not feel overwhelmed when you walk in the store. I did like that. However, I stood there for awhile by the shoe department needing help, and absolutely nobody acknowledged me. When I say that, I mean they didn't even look at me. I'm only 5'1", so maybe I am too small! They were somewhat busy, so I understand to some extent, but nobody even said they could help in a minute. And I was wearing Nike shoes and Nike running capris... . neither of which was cheap. Obviously I was in there to buy something, not just browse. As a matter of fact, all I needed was someone to grab me the exact shoes I was wearing. It could have even happened when they went on the back to help someone else. But- nobody asked.
And.... the selection of women's clothing was pretty bad. A couple types of capris, a couple of types of shorts, and some running shirts, which were okay. I know I sound like a whiner, but I do expect better customer service if I am planning on walking in and spending 200 dollars for just two items. I just walked out after about ten minutes, came home, and wrote...
ย ย ย Read moreYesterday was great. At 10 in the morning, the female staff was great. She helped so many things. But today on Sunday at 5:40 in the evening, male staff was terrible.. I asked something. But he said no... we don't have that design anymore. He didn't even check the stock. And I heard some other colors left from the female staff yesterday. So I wanted him to check the stock again. And he told me yes, we have other color in the back. And he took the shoes to me and that's it. No staffs told me anything today. I know almost close time, no one wants to do work.... But still 20 mins left. Anyway, on Saturday at 10, thank you for helping me... You are the perfect in the women's shoes section.
