Stayed at this beautiful hotel in February and was excited to try the rooftop bar when the weather warmed up. I live in Racine during the week for work and finally made my way to this beautiful rooftop overlooking the lake. The service was TERRIBLE. I asked for a wine list, the bartender says they dont have one, what do I drink. I said I don't know what Im in the mood for. She asks white or red? I said, Hmmm, Im not sure. She said, well, that doesn't help me and starts to verbally list them in a sparky tone. I said, gamay. Never offered water, or a smile. I was very excited and mentioned to them I'd never been here etc. Im from Chicago, so I was excited to finally find a nice spot. I ask her for a food menu. Says all they have are nuts and charcuterie. I asked her what's on charcuterie board, she says meat and cheese. Um, what kind? She says meat and cheese in a slow sparky tone. I asked you dont know what kind of cheese you're serving. She looks dead in the eye and says, No. Instead of saying, give me a minute, let me check. We'll, I saw her texting someone and sure enough 2 ladies walk up to tell me what's on the board. By this time Im upset, I told them I was having a bad time here and Ill never come back nor recommend this place to friends or colleagues. I send alot of people here because we are working at the biggest data center in Mount Pleasant in the area, and I loved the hotel and Nia who is the concierge. The lady said, so you don't want to know about the cheese. I say no. They walk off without even trying to ease my experience or comp a sub par glass of wine. I called a week later after I calmed down because I didn't want to sound like a disgruntled customer and I spoke to the food and beverage director. All he said was give us another chance. Here's the thing, I dont need a free glass of wine but the gesture would have gone far. I still tipped her 5$. They didn't care about my experience. A place of this caliber should care about making new guests experiences and tailoring service. I'm not from Racine but Im working here until the end of the year and I will never go back. I stopped at Apis last night and guess what, they went beyond in detail to tell me what was on their charcuterie board, the drinks were balanced and the wine list stellar. Oh, and I...
Read moreI don't often do public reviews like this, and usually only if they're very positive, but after filling out the hotel survey received by email after my stay and getting no response to my comments, I thought I'd post here.||First, calling our room a "junior suite" was a stretch to say the least. Even in a Courtyard or similar, a suite implies a separate seating area, sometimes with an additional TV. This room was basically a couch in front of the bed and about 4 feet from the television making it essentially unusable and just taking up what limited space there was. Charging over $100 a night more than a standard room was pretty much unacceptable in my opinion. After checking in, I even asked the lady at the front desk if it indeed was a junior suite and she confirmed that it was. But looking at the diagram on the back of the door it sure didn't seem like it was 50% more space as advertised online. Also, was this a king bed as advertised? My wife thought sure it was a queen.||A couple of other items I had issue with. I had made a reservation for the restaurant for the night of July 4th which the system accepted. Then the next day I got an email it was cancelled and a short VM saying the restaurant was closed that night. I understand the need to give staff a break for a holiday but you do bill yourselves as a full service hotel so I would expect at least some food service.|Also, at Eave that night, the bar service closed at 9:45 before the fireworks even ended and the female server rudely told me my "complementary" drink tickets were no longer valid and to take a hike.||Final issue...sauna was out the entire 3 days we were there with no explanation before or during our stay. Was a selling point to me when I booked so very disappointed it was out of order. Knowing something about saunas it's not a complicated piece of machinery so not sure why it wasn't operational.||Saving grace was the Marguerite restaurant the next night when it was open. Food was solid and our server (Arel?) was excellent, especially since she told us she had just started. She's a keeper!||Overall, good location and good potential, but currently the value just...
Read moreWife and I just stayed at Hotel Verdant this Saturday night. In our opinion the Hotel Lobby Fireplace is the best part of the Hotel. We arrived, checked in, and were directed to the hotel parking lot which is a block and a half away. Upon entering our room we realized zero thought went into designing the layout. The roomiest part of the room is the entrance area (which is a useless space), the rest of the room is so cramped you cannot walk around the bed (which is shoved up against the wall), cannot sit at the desk cause you will be blocking access to either side of the room / bathroom. Speaking of the bed space, the area is so small it truly reminded us of sleeping in a camper. Mind you, while on the subject of the room...it was advertised as "LakeView" and you could kind of see a sliver of the lake in the distance between the downtown buildings from one of the two small windows. The thermostat in the room was not adjustable as it was locked, the front desk had to send a Maint. man with a laptop to unlock it. We then also learned that the thermostat does not allow you to run the Fan function and Heat function at the same time. The TV was also hilarious, and absolutely impossible to operate. The remote worked, but did not highlight any channel selections...so it was anyone's guess what channel you chose, and most often it (the TV) would just self select the Spanish channel. We were told that the Hotel Rooftop bar is nice and worth visiting, but we didn't...so I can't comment on that other than to say: we had a room on the 3rd floor but to get to the rooftop bar we would have to take the elevator down to the 1st floor, take a different elevator back up to get to the roof. Again, zero effort put into the thought of Design and functionality. We've stayed in many hotels, and very rarely have ever been this disappointed in...
