Kewpees has the VERY BEST hamburgers, cheeseburgers and fries anywhere! The beef is always fresh, never frozen and it makes a big difference in taste. They also have homemade root beer which is fantastical. When you're dining in they will keep refilling your root beer mug. Bottomless root beer mug, wonderful. No kidding about the burgers, for some reason they are the best there is. Kewpees is a Racine institution which has been serving up great food at low prices for 93 years. The Food Network's Guy Fieri visited Kewpees on one of his Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives episodes for the Food Network. He loved the Fresh Beef Burgers and Crinkle Cut Crispy Fries overflowing from the tray. He also was awed by the fantastic Rootbeer. Inside Kewpees are the old fashioned dining stools around the rounded counters as well as tables. It's decorated with every Kewpee doll, from early days on up. They are on one wall behind glass and they are really fun to see and read about. If you want a great hamburger, fries and root beer for under $5.00 Kewpees is for you. After writing all this I have to go pick up a burger and fries to bring...
Read moreI’m super disappointed in my visit today. My husband and I were finally able to take our 2 year old daughter for her first Kewpee visit. Upon arriving, they had signs up indicating they would not be doing table service and to order at the front. Not the worst thing, the employee working the register was very nice and I had no problem with placing an order. It’s the actual food that was the problem. We ordered 5 burgers, 3 root beers and 2 fries. Each one of the burgers were flavorless and tastes like you were licking a greasy grill. The fries are always great, no complaints there. One of my biggest disappointments was the root beer. It was basically flavorless and wasn’t even served in glass mugs! I don’t know if it was the styrofoam cup making the root beer taste different or what, but it was just sad all around. We’re all at home now with stomach aches. I’m so saddened that this is what...
Read moreWow! I first heard about this place on a YouTube video about chain restaurants that used to be big (apparently it's one of only 5 locations left). I figured it was worth checking out and it did not disappoint! We had to wait a couple of minutes for a table at lunch since it was busy, but worth it. Fresh beef is complemented by delicious and perfectly melted cheese. They even took a few cents off the price for getting it without a bun--I've never had that anywhere! As if the food wasn't good enough by itself, the prices are astoundingly low. Burgers cost less than value menu offerings at most fast food joints and are far better. Our bill was $11 for 5 burgers, fries, and a soda. Kewpee doll memorabilia might be nostalgic for those who remember it. If the novelty wasn't enough, the food...
