The one star is for the friendly workers & location of motel. Also has ice machine & working filled vending machines. Also allows pets, we had our two dogs and seen cats sitting in window of other rooms. So Pets are welcome which is great.
Now that the positive aspects are out the way, the list of Negative issues is outrageous and Red Roof Inn needs to take action and address them immediately as it is unacceptable to say the least. The room wasnāt what anyone would consider clean! They vacuum the floors when the only carpet is a square patch in front of door & rest is wood laminate flooring that NEEDS to be mopped! I spilt water & wiped it up and the washcloth was black afterwards. Disgusting. Walls have dirt and stains all over, hair on toilet and sink. Desk had dried up food all over, microwave missing plate, fridge worked but missing all shelves and door pieces. AC barely worked at first due to lack of cleaning and maintenance, we had to remove filters and clean them.
And now for the big one, which made me want to throw up out of disgust that any business would find this acceptable and allow for this. The BEDS need to be in the TRASH and get NEW ones, because I know for damn sure the owners would NEVER sleep on one of these beds! The first one was dirty and had stains probably due to the lack of no bed protector and no pillow protectors either! Then the next bed⦠I pull up the sheets so I can get new ones to find a FILTHY DIRTY bed covered in black dirty stains all over and holes in bed. This is NOT ok!!! Not only are you putting our health at risk but you are misleading and stealing from your customers whom which a lot are struggling and trying to get by. We pay to have a CLEAN safe place to stay at and instead we get worse than the bottom of a garbage can all the while this place makes so much money and instead of investing in maintaining the property and rooms decides to be cheap and not replace what should have been trash a long, long time ago.
Iāve also seen two small roaches/bugs which is expected when the flooring hasnāt been properly cleaned ever.
Red Roof Inn - I donāt know what happened to you, growing up Red Roof Inn name had respect and was considered one of the top motels. But now after staying at two other locations in Illinois itās clear to see the big owner doesnāt care and has allowed these privately owned locations to run the name through the dirt. Do better, you owe it to your paying customers.
Lastly, I can guarantee that Indiana has laws set in place or health department in regards to the condition of the mattresses that you are allowing your customers to sleep on without them knowing what they are actually laying on!!!
Iāve reached out to Red Roof Inn corporate about other locations and the issues only to receive the same response they give anyone who isnāt satisfied with their stay. Within the past two months of us staying at Red Roof Inns weāve spent well over $3,000 to stay in these conditions and would like to compensated for all of the issues or at least offered some free stays especially after us having to come in and really clean our room and get our sheet and blanket set because the lack of cleanliness.
Do better Red Roof, bring back your standards and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI understand that we traveled on a heavy travel weekend, and I neglected to mention in our reservation that we needed a ground floor room as other facilities have had elevators and it slipped my mind, that one is on me. I am disabled. So getting up and down the stairs is more than rough. My partner just had a hip replaced 3 weeks ago, so getting up and down the stairs is rough. We were informed that there were no other rooms available as they are booked, and the only room is on the 2nd floor, no elevator... just stairs. Again, this one is on me.
So, we get up the stairs, enter our room and the first thing we see - the pillow cases are NOT clean. And if they are, they need new linens as ONE is stark white and crisp and the others are yellow, also the comforter looks yellowed as well. Okay, fine, maybe they are discolored from too much bleach, (I can only hope).
THEN, I go to plug my phone in, and there is a ring of catsup (or an undefinable red substance of some kind), as if someone put a glass in a pile of catsup and set it on the night table. And it is now dried, but not dried to the point that it is crusty, dried to the point that it has a jam like consistency.
Okay, I call the from desk and ask if the room had been cleaned. With much hesitation and almost as if I had offended her, she responded curtly, (which was surprising as she was nice enough when we checked in, VERY pleasant), that it should have been cleaned. She offered to change our rooms. Ummm, I mentioned that I am disabled and my partner just had a hip replacement, right? And that we were told NO other rooms were available for the night, right?
While I am on the phone with the front desk, more catsup on the desk is found, crumbs from a previous guests meal on the desk, HUGE GAPING holes behind the night tables and a poorly patched hole in the bathroom that was not complete.
So... I called my booking agent as I have Gold Star status with the agency, and my option are as follows - They can certainly change my room, but there is no one on site to assist, they can refund my money and we can check out. That is it. No one to come clean the room, nothing else offered.
Now, why did I not check out... BECAUSE there are ZERO rooms left in Merrillville, IN for the evening, unless I want to pay TRIPLE what I am paying here. I am a Disabled Veteran of the USMC - I live on the disability payments that I receive monthly and do not have extra in my budget to stay anywhere else.
So, sadly, all I have left is the option of leaving bad reviews everywhere... or to sleep in my car.
Signed,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVery dissatisfied with this hotel. From the moment I arrived, I was constantly annoyed by the constant sounds of freeway traffic from the highway less than 400 feet from the hotel. The neighbors to the left of my room appeared to be long term guests, not necessarily a bad thing except for the fact that they were SO AT HOME they set up a bonfire right outside my room, less than 5 feet from my door, in the parking lot. This caused a heavy cloud of ash and smoke to be blown towards my room and blown aggressively at my face by the AC unit, my room then smelled like a bonfire for the majority of the night and morning. To make things worse, babies, two of them no more than 9 months old were placed in front of my door in car seats right in the cloud of smoke. The babies cried and went unattended by the 6-8 adults surrounding the fire. After about 45-50 minutes the babies went quiet, presumably due to smoke inhalation. I was kept up until three in the morning due to the noises of the hotel guests having their Pow Wow outside my room and the droning of highway traffic. I was then woken up promptly at 6 am by the sound of the babies crying and the neighbors screaming at these infants to be quiet and stop crying. I may or may not have overheard physical threats as well. At 11 am, after 5 hours of hearing infants cry for the majority of that duration, I went to the front desk to request a new room, which I was told wouldn't be ready for several hours. I got a call an hour later while I was gone and was told my room was ready, I said I had left and asked if I could swap rooms in a couple hours and I was told I would need to come immediately or I would hear crying children all night, so I came back and cancelled my plans to change rooms. upon entering the new room my AC unit looked like it got smashed by a Ram Pickup truck and made a noise similar to a car without a muffler. My shower looked like grafitti had been written in the grime on the floor. The hotel staff was exceptionally friendly however, the rooms were just not up to par and the long term guests (it's a lot of them) don't seem to have much respect for the people around them. I saw small children running around unattended from early morning to late at night. Not a peaceful place to stay but it's okay if you just are looking for a place to...
