So, we choose this hotel due to it's proximity to Discovery Park for the Aftershock Festival (a four day music festival). While more expensive than the other options, the Marriot name carried with it an expectation of cleanliness and safety. Initially, the staff was helpful and courteous when the lock on our door was finicky. Not a big deal. We noted the rust spot in the tub, but we were more excited for the event we came for. The dirty windows didn't concern us yet. Found it weird and inconvenient that the only microwave was in the lobby. Then, on the fourth night of our five night stay, the roaches showed themselves. I was brushing my teeth when I saw the first one. Alarmed, I caught in under a glass in the bathroom and took a picture to bring to management. Its friend escaped into the hallway. Skin crawling but exhausted, we alerted the front desk in the morning. We were moved from a ground floor room to the fourth floor, and she planned to leave a noted for the manager- that was the limit of what she could do without his approval, she said. Oh, and offer us a breakfast. From the kitchen...in a place with roaches. Where there is one, there are many. No. Now paying much closer attention, we noticed more signs of neglect. The upstairs room's tub was also rusted. The rail on the little balcony lurched if you leaned against it at all. The walls needed a scrubbing. We learned a lot more about cockroaches. Apparently, they love to hitch a ride and lay eggs in all your cloth items like clothes and bags. Check out comes and we speak to the aforementioned manager who was left a note. He proceeds to tell us that the roaches happened because it's been so dry. That all the hotels are dealing with them, so he couldn't do anything for us. Dude. We live in Reno, in the same drought. Roaches are a problem when someplace is dirty and neglected. Due to the Marriot name and the event, this stay cost nearly $3,000. For sleeping with roaches. Best he could do was that breakfast (again, no.) and 5000 Marriott points which translates into about $35 off a future stay. For having to leave my bags in a plastic bag in my garage for two weeks to suffocate any hitchhikers and their offspring, as well as washing and high heat drying, for the horrible sleep, for realizing those things crawled all over the cup I used for coffee. Aftershock is yearly. We won't be back to this hotel next year.
TLDR: Roaches and the manager...
Read moreWe had a miss communication about reservations and instead of working through the problem the front desks attitude was that it was your problem and not ours.
I had two rooms reserved for Saturday night. Thursday we decided to stay Friday night also and made those reservations. Friday morning I called and explained we had two separate reservations and asked if it was possible to stay in the same rooms both nights, they said sure and everything was taken care of. When I checked in to the hotel I repeated the request and they said it was taken care of. Saturday we went to the music festival. Our person in the second room went back early and called saying the front desk said we had only reserved one room for Saturday night, removing our belongings to the front desk. Calling the hotel and explaining we had two rooms reserved their basic attitude was it was my problem and not theirs. Leaving the festival early to go to the hotel hoping to figure this out I got the same attitude. They said they happened to have a cancelation and we could have that room. Out of frustration and anger I took the room just to get away from the situation. What had happened was the second room was in my other parties name. I thought that using my card to reserve the rooms and asking the question "We have the same two rooms for two night, correct?" on the phone and in person was enough to prevent what happened.
I stay at the Courtyard for service and the attitude at the front desk, both that night and in the morning, was just to get the customer to go away as soon as possible. I noticed that with other customers also. The only way I figured out what happened with the reservations was that my credit card was billed for three rooms Saturday night and not two. If the front desk just took the time to work though the problem everyone would have been happy.
It was not the reservation problem, or the removing our belonging from the room, or the possibility of having only one room for Saturday night, it was the attitude of the front desk that made...
Read moreI'm a valued Marriott member and I always enjoy my stay in any Marriott brand, unfortunately this time I had a bad experience at this location. I had a guaranted reservation for two nights for a business trip, I was arriving late so I called the hotel to advise them of my late arrival, I called several times but no one answered the phone which was very strainge for a hotel!! finally someone answered (a lady) I told her that I'm arriving very late and to make sure that I have my room available. When I arrived the reception lady said she wasn't sure I was going to make it despite my call and there is no room available, she said the hotel was sold out!!! After going back and forth she said the "only" room that she can give me is room #123 a handi cap accessible room. I accepted just to have a place to rest before going to my business in few hours, I entered the room and there was an awful smell. I tried to over come it by opening the widow and the AC. I went to bed and I realized the smell is very strong at one corner of the room where the bed is which is adjacent to the bathroom. I couldn't sleep and I end up sleeping on the couch in the room, it seemed like a very strong urination odder :-( The fridge in the room was not working :-( In the morning when I was about to go to my business meeting I told the lady at the reception (she's a different one from the night one) she was very apologetic and very nice and she told me to pack my stuff and they will move them for me to a...
