I've been here many times over the years. The kids always enjoy themselves. Its a Great place to cool down on a hot day. But be prepared for big crowds during the summer. The beach really gets packed in like sardines in a can. I don't think I have ever been to this beach without meeting several new people, just because everyone is sharing the area. So don't expect any privacy. I personally prefer to go at the end of the day 5-6pm when everyone is leaving, just in time to catch the last rays of sun and watch the sunset over the city. There are quite a bit more transient camps littered around than there used to be and the park staff work hard to try to keep the area nice for beach goers, more trash cans have been added this year, but there is almost always a bit of scattered trash on the trail/parking area and parts of the beach and an odd character or two from time to time comes wandering through, so I would recomend traveling here in groups for safety. Free use of life jackets is on offer...

It was great though the water had to have been at least 75 degrees hubby says 80 but idk lol. And people aren't like posted up on top of one another either nice and spaced out so you still vern enjoy some time with your family or friends and not feel like you are at a public pool or trying to spot your kids in a giant herd of them that's running up and down the beach like little maniacs lol. I very much enjoyed the day we spent there and highly recommend a visit.
Also, little suggestion... stay to watch the moonrise! It's so beautiful over the water and most people take off so it gets incredibly peaceful. And from the spot we were at you could see the lights of the nearby town over the hills after dusk twinkle in the distance. ...
