Pros: I went for the 3-day Aftershock Festival 2019. I didn't know all the bands this year, but whether they were there as entertainers or true musicians, they ALL brought their A game. But I Love music, so entertained myself as I sang along especially with Stone Temple Pilots, Deadland Ritual, Rob Zombie, and others. I already have my ticket for next years Aftershock 2020 with Metallica! Great & Abundant Food, Drinks, Shade, Sound & Stage Systems are fantastic by Skip's Music, The Cons: It is a park with gravel, dirt, sand, and patches of thin and thick grasses. This causes a haze by afternoon between dust (kicked up by all the people), smoke, and exhaust from Hwy 5 above, even tho it was only in the 80's and parts looked like they wetted it down over night. There are areas it is almost impossible to push, pull, or shove my walker, or others wheelchairs, carts over the ground to get to the paved paths. Porta Potties, ran out of TP, and people missed. Maybe I was just lucky, but other than some flashes of anger if someone stepped on you, or elbowed you because they got pushed most people were pretty mellow. But a friend had an asthma attack, during Lamb of God as he was trying to get to air, got pummeled by security because he got out a gate he shouldn't of, so 4 others joined to bounce him. As an Asthmatic that scared me, but I learned after last year to NOT GET NEAR the stages, especially at night.

Golden Sky Festival needs an overhaul. We had VIP access and there were no signs to direct you to anything. I didn’t even step in the bathrooms until we left and that was a joke. There was no lighting at all. We spent a lot of money on tickets and it kind of sucked. The food was really good but way over priced. A pizza would run you 48 to 50 dollars. And of course the drinks at any event are way too high. Getting back to the shuttle no one even knew where they were going even staff. After a little while of walking I thought you myself maybe they would tell us the wrong way just for the fun of it. Not fun. To take the shuttle was 25.00 per person. Which with all the other pricing I felt it was too high. And to my knowledge there is no parking around Discovery Park. I contacted them directly I got no response even posted on Facebook. We parked at Cal Expo and we shuttled over. Then getting on the freeways was an absolute nightmare. Off ramp’s closure all over due to construction. Would have been nice if Golden Sky would have given a heads up on this. Because I’m sure it’s been going on a while now. The signers at the show all were fabulous. Except Eric Church. He came out 30 to 45 minutes late. No explanation. We ended up leaving early. In my opinion they need to not space out the singers as much. It was hot and standing off and on in situations like that is hard. Then to have Eric Church come out late it was really enough. People had already been standing for hours. Even if you could sit people are so rude they don’t care you’re there. They will walk all over you, and your stuff. I don’t feel it would be something we would go back to. It would have to be really good performers and I for sure wouldn’t spend that kind of money on the VIP access again. There really was no benefit in my opinion. Specially because they were letting people in the VIP section who didn’t belong. And I don’t think the festival cares which is really really sad.

I love coming here especially with my kids. This time it was a little wet, lol which is understandable with all the flooding. The flooding made it fun riding down the bike trail. The bad part is that it doesn't stop the overwhelming presence of transients or homeless or whatever they're called. There are ⛺'s all along the river & all down the bike trail and even out in the brush with dirty trails going in every direction. We were riding our bikes just me and my daughter this time & it just feels so uncomfortable now with everybody hanging out in their tent communities doin what they do and it seems like they all have BIG viscious looking dogs barking like crazy at us as we rode by or if we even looked like we were gunna stop. It's not like they can put the dogs behind fences but only some of them were tied up with makeshift ropes. It makes it really hard to stop anywhere along the trail & take a breather without that uneasy feeling that something might happen to us. Because we're basically on our own out there. We rode for a couple hours and only saw 1 park ranger drive by. There's so much garbage around these areas it doesn't feel like your outdoors on a nature trail anymore. It's just really sad & I hope it changes somehow. These are some of the reasons for my star rating this time.

This could be a five star park. The set back is that once you start to explore the park beyond the pristine common area, which is bigger then most parks I've been to, you start coming across multiple homeless camp sites. A grocery cart strung to the side of a trail, a strewn pile of garbage that was once somebody's entire belongings, the smell of piss and fecal matter. All these factors start adding up to an undesirable hike. I was especially disappointed when I tried to venture down to the running stream that flos into the Sacramento but had to stop and turn back after stumbling upon an entire group of vagrants that immediately started asking me for stuff. It's sad, I feel for the homeless and want to help, but pick up your trash and dedicate a relief area. I can deal with a lot of shtuff but I hate when humans destroy natural allure with trash and junk etc...

Very large, spacious, beautiful park right on the confluence of the American and Sacramento rivers. Picturesque landscapes, bridges, over passes, rivers, and plenty of space to be alone when photographing. The parking is pay for a day, but I typically walk or bike there. There are restrooms, boat ramps, rivers, beaches (swimming is allowed, just wait for the river to warm up), bbqs, picnic tables, larger areas for large groups including larger concrete tables great for multiple uses with power. The bike trail also runs right through here. Plenty of Parking for trucks with boat trailers, rvs, etc. I highly recommend exploring off the beaten paths, there are great views of the green bridge, river, skyline, a smaller river, and the fall colours are gorgeous. Is normally very clean, respectful patrons and friendly rangers at the entrances.
