January 10 & 11 , 2023 - Some people like action when they visit a city. . . St. George Inn offers a central location where you can walk to all the action in St. Augustine! We stayed 2 days during off season in January, perfect for my wife & I !
We enjoyed our stay at the St. George Inn. We called ahead on our check in day, to say we’d be getting there a little after 8 pm. Julie said, she’d be waiting for us! She was very courteous & helpful getting us settled. The room was very nice, 2 nd floor balcony , overlooking the beach & Spanish Fort ! The next morning surprised to see Julie so early! She cooked up a wonderful ham & cheese panini! Thank you! Fresh fruit, coffee & OJ!
After breakfast , we wanted to see Historic St. Augustine! Here’s why St. George Inn is in a perfect location:
*Lots of small stores! *Several nice restaurants *Ice cream shops *Pizza places *BBQ place *Clocks store *Castillo de San Marcos ( Spanish Fort) *Clothes Shops! *Flagler College *Lightner Museum *Harbor with fishing & boat tours *Ridley’s “Believe It or Not” Museum *Annual Nights of Lights ( Nov. thru Jan.) *Sightseeing Trolly Tours *Haunted Ghost Tour *Lighthouse & Museum
So start with a Trolley Tour, they provide a map, check out the area. Then decide what you want to “ get off” the trolly to see! After you finish at one location/ spot , “ get on” the next trolly that comes along! No car needed! There’s 21 Trolly stops, we stopped for several attractions. . . Some require admission, but you go at your own pace!
Get back to the St. George Inn for cocktail hour, at their Bin 39 Wine 🍷 Cafe! We purchased a few glasses of wine, and a charcuterie board ( assortment of meats, cheeses, some fruit ) ! They have live music ( guy with guitar) amongst umbrella tables in their garden area courtyard! Relaxing as you talk over you dinner plans. Around 6 pm, we walked over to a wonderful BBQ restaurant!
After dinner, we noticed the stores & shops turning on their outside light decorations! Wow, St. Augustine has an annual Night Lights display throughout their Historic district. . . Beautiful to see folks outside walking around in January , with all the holiday lights. It’s a nice draw, to bring folks into the city for some fun, “ off season”!
We had a great time in St. Augustine, and the weather was very mild, especially for folks who live in Maine! ( Like we do ) 👍🏼👍🏼😃 5 stars for St. George Inn, great bedroom with a view, tv, wi-fi, no pool, no exercise room, but a nice garden courtyard for cocktail hour & live music! Our cost was $290 per day, plus $12 parking fee per day. Perfect location in the city! Thank you ! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Don’t stay here if you want guaranteed peace and quiet. Would not recommend staying here if you’re bringing small children as the party scene is right out your front door and we found a homeless man sleeping at the bottom of the staircase leading to our room and the front office is closed at night so we couldn’t express how concerned we were. It’s not safe for kiddos in my opinion.
To our surprise, we had to walk through an outdoor cigar lounge to get in and out of our room! We do not smoke so this was a huge concern for us.
Initially, we stayed in room #26 I believe. The room had a great view of the entrance to George Street and we could see some of the fort and the water. Things went further downhill once we began investigating the cleanliness of the room.
Dirt, dust, lint everywhere. Scratches all over the walls. Cobwebs in places. Room was stuffy.
We stayed in room #26 (I believe it was) for one night only. We were determined to ask for a change of rooms the very next morning. In the meantime, all night a taxi driver sat at the entrance of George Street and played the most pulsating bass that shook our room. It was deafening LOUD. It lasted for hours. It was 12/23/23 all we wanted was to be happy and look forward to Christmas Eve in a charming town.
12/24/23 we were able to get a change of rooms, praise God.We complained and showed photos for proof. The owner walked us to our new room, right above the front desk in the pink building. Though we were grateful that they painted the walls to cover all the metal looking scratches…he failed to tell us the paint was still wet upon us walking in. So…my husband accidentally got paint all over his heirloom jacket he was carrying as he turned the corner. It was apparent the owner was embarrassed and he did the best he could to wash the paint off. Thankfully it came off for the most part but we still had to work at it to get it completely clean.
12/24/23 sleep was much better that our room was moved. Owner blamed the noise from the night before on the “largest crowd” they’ve ever seen for 12/23/23 Night of Lights. We didn’t believe him seeing how St Augustine is visited by many who partake in the party scene and nights can get loud.
Breakfast was surprisingly great!
Great location. Can walk to anywhere in the charming town.
Thank God they have valet parking! This saved us so much headache.
We didn’t think so many people would be visiting St Augustine12/23-12/25 but we were surprised. Our stay started very rocky but ended on a good note. However, we would not recommend and we won’t be...
Read moreStayed in the Castillo Suites two nights. They had us switch rooms as one wasn't available for both nights.
The first room was the 1 floor plan. The room is wonderfully set up with a bedroom and living room area with a door between if needed. They had a plenty of room through out and could easily accommodate 4 large adults. There are two balcony views for the 1 floor play. The first is facing out to Castillo de San Marcos fort, which is great for people watching and the other is facing into the historic shopping strip. Both are easily enjoyed with provided rocking chairs.
The second room was the 2 floor plan with the bedroom up spiral staircases. Pretty much the same layout in revers aside from the upstairs bedroom. It does have a window that opens facing the fort but there is no screen or bars. I would not recommend opening it if you have little ones. This floor plan only offers the shared balcony facing the fort but just as wonderful and easily enjoyed.
I've read previous reviews where people complained about loud music. We stayed Saturday and Sunday night, and yes it can get loud. However most of the music died out by 10pm EST, except one bar across the shopping strip which ran till about 3am EST. The noise was only slightly noticeable when it was dead quiet in the room. If you have a tv on, you wouldn't really hear it. Of course you are staying on the shopping strip so if you expect total quiet you should probably not stay at this location.
The rooms were clean, up to date and all had a pleasant atmosphere. The staff were super friendly and always helpful. The morning breakfast was plentiful and had a good variety. Everything was pretty much within walking distance for all kinds of restaurants, bars and points of interest.
Pricing is on the high side for a suite, but for the convenience of the location it is well worth it as you will have very little driving to do and the parking garage that you get a pass to is about a 3min walk away. As stated before you can walk almost to every place you'd want to visit and the trolley stop is just one...
