I was truly disappointed! 1st Christmas that we have not spent at home so we thought wow let's do something different, let's stay at a really nice bed and breakfast. My husband, myself and my parents decided on the Centennial. I had only read the really good reviews....I guess I should have paid more attention to the bad ones as well. I know everyone has their own experience so I decided just to put it out of my mind and decide for myself. This is gonna be pretty long but I want you to know my whole experience. One week prior to going I called the owner, she answered and I explained I had a few questions about the rooms. She said they were the same and I said they can't be because they're 2 different prices that I had reserved. She stated she was at an appointment with her sister and would call me back. I didn't get a return call so I had to call the next day and resolve my issue. Upon arrival we were shown our rooms. My parents in the Oliveros and we stayed in the carriage view. At first glance everything seemed clean and fresh. After unpacking and unwinding I notice that the intake vent above the door entrance and the vent in the bathroom were covered in dust, baseboards definitely need attention. The blind was ripped and inside drawers were hair and other debris. Headboard dusty as well. My parents let us know at breakfast that they didn't sleep well and froze all night. The thermostat was on 80 and it only registered 60 the whole time. When this was brought up to the owner she said that the other room that is downstairs (Fleur De Lis) is connected to that thermostat and if there are young people....theyll keep it cooler. Also, she had someone come and check and it would cost $50,000 to correct. Mind you we were there Dec 24th - 26th....the lows for those nights were in the 20's. Maybe it's just me but if I was the owner I would have moved my guest to a different Room. They were not booked. Breakfast was just OK , they do ask if you have any allergies but they don't bother to ask if there's any foods that you don't like. Upon overhearing a conversation most of the items either come from Sams or GFS and are microwaved. Christmas morning's breakfast was good. They make their own blend of juice...which my family enjoyed. I however do not like orange juice, so when I relayed this to whoever the lady helping ....I wasnt offered anything else. I had to stop her and ask could I get a glass of water, which she grumbled something and brought about 5 min later. When the food came mine was cold.....I asked the lady if she could please warm it for me.....the rest of my party said theirs was cold as well. So I thought maybe its supposed to be, so I asked when she returned it......she snarled at me and said I dont think so. Day two breakfast was not great. Heard the microwave. Some coconut muffin...my parents do not like coconut. Pumpkin puree which was so overpowering. I'm sure maybe to some the breakfasts are fine....I just feel for $250 a night that you could come up with a little more something or have an alternative menu that if people don't like what you serve. Each time we'd watch them go into new rooms to change out sheets and towels, never heard a vacuum never saw dusting. Going up the stairs you can tell they're just filthy dirt and debris, they are not done daily as they should be. It is a nice home and the location is great but for the price of $250 a night.... My last complaint....My phone charger was left plugged in. I called and asked if they could check and mail it to me. The owner stated she would ask Ann and call me the next day. I asked if she had my address and she stated it's in the computer at the bed & breakfast. Well that phone call was on December 26 and today is January the 5th and surprise surprise I've still yet to receive a call. It's unfortunate because this experience has made my family never want to try another bed and...
Read moreYou're going to read this and say to yourself, "She must be exaggerating," but I truly can't express to you how much I am NOT. Within twenty minutes of booking our reservation, we received a call from Jess, who called to confirm our reservation and to talk through the hotel's amenities, policies, and parking. From this first interaction, we have NEVER felt more welcome and more appreciated at any hotel. The building has been fully renovated to an incredible extent while remaining true to its 19th century roots - there are photo albums on the table in the dining room detailing in the process and it's beautiful to see. For those of you wondering "Can a renovated hotel have enough outlets for me? Can the air conditioning possibly work?" I assure you, BOTH are true. I have never woken up cold in Florida and frankly, I was delighted to have the opportunity. The rooms are so comfortable and so well-appointed, we almost didn't want to leave, but that would be a shame considering the inn's absolutely perfect location on Cordova Street! Just about every historic site you can think of in the city is within a fifteen minute walking distance, and if you need any help finding it or looking for a recommendation, the entire staff is widely knowledgeable and ready to help you figure out a plan. Marcia, the Innkeeper, gave us a full walking tour of the building upon arrival to make sure we were familiar with all the amenities and answer any questions we had, and it felt like walking around with an old friend right away. She pointed out the drink fridge (available and fully-stocked twenty four seven with complementary sodas, water, and wine,) the baked goods (I was literally traveling with my mom and if it's on her baking level??? significant,) the aromatherapy towels (which she hand-makes and may just save your life after a hot day walking the city,) and the in-room sherry for a nightcap. Even the bathrooms in this hotel are beautiful, which if you've ever stayed in a historic building, you may have some reservations about. The sheer number and quality of linens in the room is truly incredible, and so so clean. And the breakfast part of this B&B? Y'all, I want these people to cater my wedding. We had a peach cobbler bake the second morning that was basically the fruity french toast of my dreams, and if we didn't want what was on the menu, we could request something else and it would be just as spectacular as the chef's choice. Listen to Marcia when she tells you about the local coffee - no exaggeration, it's head and shoulders above Starbucks. Within an hour of arriving, I messaged several of my loved ones saying we had to book here and stay again, and I'm so excited to do so. I can't recommend this hotel, its service, its accommodations, its food, its everything enough. Yes, there are about a thousand private B&Bs in St. Augustine, and yes, you may have rewards at any of the many beautiful chain hotels also in the area, but only this one can truly make you feel this at home, this pampered, and this relaxed. Thank you, Centennial House team, for making my mother & I feel so welcomed - we can't wait to...
