UPDATE: - the owner's comments are misleading. The review was based on a reservation the weekend my dad passed away - not the most recent weekend. And the owners were awful and harassing to my family during that time. My story is 100% accurate. and true AND the INN's response is yet another indication of why you should avoid them. ORIGINAL, ACCURATE REVIEW:
Do not make a reservation.
After looking long & hard for a place to do a mini retreat with my mom & kid sisters, I booked this place despite some of the poor reviews (bc nothing had great reviews in old St Charles).
Long story short, my dad very unexpectedly was put on life support the week before our expected stay. After explaining the situation, the owner was horrible to us. Literally cashiers at the grocery store were kinder than this woman in the "hospitality" industry. She put the room back up to be rented (which it was) but told us we had to pay half the fee anyway. She then proceeded to harass both my mom and myself in texts and voicemails to pay....knowing we were dealing with losing my dad/my moms husband of 30+ years...(mind you, we were barely able to function due to grief. It wasn't intentional to "not pay" as much as it was hardly possible for us to even talk or eat following his death).
During that time I experienced great warmth and compassion from many strangers, but this woman added a stress, negativity, and hatefulness. There must be a Better place. Avoid this one, and this woman,...
Read moreThis place was really nice. The owner seems to have really went out of their way to make this place accommodating for their guests. It sits along the riverfront and we were able to get some dinner to go at a restaurant nearby and people watch on our patio.
It has a full shower and a bath/jacuzzi. It was nice to sit in a Epsom salt bath with bubbles (they provided Epsom salt and the soap). The owner seemed to know the area and it's history very well. It was a nice stay.
If you are like my wife and I, I would advise you to bring a fan or some other device to drown out the ambient noise, but that is a personal preference. Not everyone is bothered by that and I can't discredit this place because of outside noise. My wife and I found the beds to be slightly uncomfortable, but once again, those are personal preferences.
All in all, this was a nice inn to stay at. Nestled right in the middle of Main Street St. Charles right at the heart of all the shops, restaurants, ect. I highly recommend this place if you are out of town, or just looking...
Read moreBoone's Colonial Inn is an amazing place to stay in historic St. Charles. It is like stepping back in time. The decor is perfect with beautiful antiques, and the restoration of the building was clearly done with a great respect for the historical details. I was fortunate enough to stay in the Thomas Jefferson Suite. The bed was so comfortable, and there is the cutest sitting room that looks over the cobblestone street below. The bathroom was amazing! It had a big multi head shower AND a jacuzzi tub! Off the back of the room there's a balcony area that faces the park and river. A perfect place for a cup of coffee in the morning before you take a walk to explore the quaint downtown area. The building also has a common room with wonderful historical furniture and artifacts. This is a GREAT space to rent for a private party. The owners are wonderful and passionate about historic St. Charles. They are very knowledgeable about the area, so they can help you plan whatever you want to do. I highly recommend this unique property, you...
