Not at all what I was expecting for $86 per night. I would have been better off staying at Motel 6. The Lobby is nice and updated, so I was surprised when I walked into my room. The room was dark and dingy. The smell of the room was horrible not sure if this was used as a pet room previously or not but the housekeepers need to use some febreeze or something. As I was settling in I open the drapes and find the fabulous view of the roof top with a bunch of air conditioning units and cigarette butts scattered about. Do people smoke on the rooftop? After getting my fill of the view I closed the drapes and turned to the bed, where I found 2 throw pillows that were put into full sized pillow cases and wrapped up like small little packages. I went to the front desk and asked for some regular sized pillows but they didn't have any and told me they would have someone bring them up to my room. After waiting almost an hour for the pillows I decided to go down to the restaurant for dinner. I entered the restaurant and sat myself (that's what the sign said). I sat at a two top table in full view of the bar, where three staff members and two patrons were chatting it up. I waited for someone to acknowledge me but no one ever did so. I gave them 15 minutes and got up and left. I don't understand the rude behavior from the staff, I know that they saw me because I made eye contact with two of them several times. I went back up to my room to research some other location to dine at and decided to grab some coffee but to my surprise there is not a coffee maker as advertised. Instead there is a small placard stating that coffee is available in the lobby. I was planning to study for m state board examine all night and was looking forward to having coffee in my room. Unfortunately I wasn't about to go downstairs to the lobby every time I wanted a cup of coffee. The hotel is not bad in general but I really expected more for the price. Also the pool is closed which would have been nice to know when booking, an indoor pool was one of my deciding factors. The walls are thin and you can hear everything (and I mean everything) your neighbors are doing. In the end I will not choose this hotel next time I travel to Salem and hopefully the hotel will upgrade their rooms and service for their...
Read moreArrived at the Red Lion desk after traveling throughout the USA for 50 days...we know they are a older chain . However...we had just had a lovely stay in coos bay, Oregon Red Lion. Upon arrival in Salem ..the young man asked me if I had triple A or AARP (I am 60 but ? The Appropriateness is questionable) He then said well we can give you a special rate with either...I had not asked for this special rate ...he offered! Was it my beach attire , my age or tiredness ...maybe it was our dirty well traveled Suburu that had him decide on our room? 'll never know! He then asssigned us room 302... Looking like a 8 by 8 converted maintenance or staff room...a full size? bed and a Phillips television from 1985(no exaggeration)..no satellite ...and a grimy sliding glass metal door and literally no room to turn around , oh and overlooking the trash containers in the back corner of the hotel . I then phoned the front desk and asked if all rooms were equipped and like this....answer was "no". I waited....no further answer...I asked then.... may we have a room With a normal setup as we were planning on that. ANSWER: yes...I'm with a customer I'll get right back to you. He did .. and problem was resolved quickly to a totally complete and lovely king size bed room with normal amenities ...However ...I am not rating on the final outcome...I am rating on the audacity to send a customer to a room like this in the first place!! This young man needs further training ...maybe ..do not judge a book by its cover. 50 days traveling in hotels throughout the US...Best Westerns, Hilton's , double trees , beautiful old inns..elite hotels and small beautiful motels . All with good reviews!! So sad Red Lion would pull this stunt for what 1 extra room...crazy...

1st review. Free breakfast is a lie, they say it's on free amenities it's not you either have to pay $9.99 or have one of there most expensive rooms. You should update your ad for further miscommunication. Thank you that would be appreciated. (I have been in many hotels and this by far is the most direspectfull staff) 2nd review. We'll I tried going here again a couple days ago said why not the first time the staff was rude & looked at me like I was in the wrong. But I gave them another shot, Take in mind i dont care about the money I'll pay up to 1000$ a night, no problem. The rooms are small and 20-40$ more than the shillo inn where the staff is way nicer not all old grumpy ladys on there period. The maids are much nicer too. The bar and grill was 3 stars only because my son was being crabby and loud and the restaurant manager understood our situation treating us no different then the others. But i definitely do not respect a franchise that has no respect. On our way out they tried saying we were smoking in the room. When we told the we were not we were on the patio. This is exactly what the receptionist said "oh well, you can't smoke on the patio either", we said ok then what is it for? "She said it was for views." There was other people smoking also is why I was so confused. Wow they were so low they look at younger people and just decide to give them hard time for no reason, which is fine I payed for my full stay but don't plan to stay here again or recommend this hotel is better than all the others...
