Bag O’ Crab — Restaurant in Salem

So this is how my dinner at Bag O' Crab went last night and my opinion. Please read if your planning on eating there.

The service was TERRIBLE I couldn't even tell you if the food was good or not.

I'm NOT a picky person and I do let things go. I understand serving people is not a easy job. So here is how the night went....

We made a phone reservation for 7pm. They didn't honor it. They just seat people when they get there. So we DIDN'T have a table and opted to sit at a table in the bar. We were given menu's and after 30 minutes she came to get our DRINK and FOOD order. We got our drinks 10 minutes later. I was with my husband and my daughter. We all ordered a meal with salads and a cup of chowder. 35 minutes after ordering our salads came. Well actually only 2 salads came when there should have been 3. We had 2 with thousand island and one with ranch. One came out right one came out with some weird house dressing. By the way none of the other ones had NO salad dressing on them. We had to call the girl over to correct it (The robot brought it). Needless to say our meals came out right away before the salads were even corrected. I ordered a shrimp basket and opted to pay MORE for a salad instead of french fries. So when my food came they put my what should have been hot fried shrimp on top of my salad on a cold plate. The waitress NEVER came over unless we stopped her as she would walk by extremely fast. So when I asked about why you'd put fried hot shrimp on a cold plate with a cold salad I was told 'well you upgraded to a salad' the girl said she'd see what she could do. A man from the kitchen came to the table and looked right at me and the first thing he said to me was 'So I heard you were complaining'. I asked again about why the salad wasn't on the side he offered to take them off for me. I said 'Why would I need you to do that' 'I can do that myself' he stated he'd fix it. At that time BEFORE they left I asked where our cups of chowder were and we were told 'We're OUT of clam chowder'. So I guess the waitress just had no intention of telling us that. Well the man took my plate back to the kitchen and 8 minutes later came back with a basket of french fries and they RE-FRIED the same shrimp I had on the salad. The shrimp was DARK DARK BROWN and RUBBER. Meanwhile my husband and daughter were eating their meals. NONE of us ate our salads because it was either eat your warm meal before it gets colder or the salad. The end result was....None of us ate a salad (with no dressing). None of us had any chowder (a seafood place that ran out of chowder). My husband ate he seafood basket. No salad. No Chowder. My daughter ate the 12 shrimp that came in hers. No salad. No Chowder. So all she ate was 12 shrimp for dinner. Myself, I ate 3 small pieces of garlic bread for dinner. So I can't even tell you if the food was any good. I didn't get any.

By the way a couple at the bar that was sitting next to our table ordered a bag to share. The bartender/waiter brought out 2 baskets. When they said they ordered one instead of the restaurant letting them have it since it was their mistake they took it from them. I have NO DOUBT in my mind that the restaurant didn't serve it to someone else since all they did was refry my shrimp twice (basically deep frying my shrimp for 12 minutes).

Short story long, I will NEVER NEVER NEVER go back there nor will I recommend the...

Ordered 1 lb of king crab in their atomic sauce + a little heat(70$ market price) & 2 lobster tails, one in garlic butter and the second in atomic mild (20$ x 2). I’m from Texas, next to Louisiana so I’ve had my share of Cajun seafood boils. Price was fine. We came here for my birthday, so it was supposed to be special.

The food - My king crab came out & the meat was not good. I’m not sure if it was over cooked or super old, but it was dry and rubbery and it was stuck to the shell. I used the scissors to cut the shell long ways and I was still having trouble getting it out of the shell. It wasn’t plump or coming out whole from the shell like it should have been. The sauce was too peppery, like black pepper and lacked flavor too. I attempted to drown the king crab in the garlic butter sauce from my lobster but it didn’t improve sadly. It was an extreme disappointing birthday king crab.

The lobster was cooked perfectly and actually was sweet and succulent the way you expect good seafood to be. The one is the garlic butter sauce tasted amazing and is the only reason they got 2 stars. The lobster tail in the atomic sauce mild was not as good. The atomic sauce just wasn’t good and really killed it for me. I can’t recommend this atomic sauce, but I do recommend the garlic butter.

The staff - The hostess was welcoming & waitress was nice and attentive, so they got a star for the good staff.

The restaurant- Ample seating & good sized tables for a seafood boil. Comfy booth seating.

Would I go back - No. I got home and got sick.

TL:DR - went out to eat king crab for my birthday. It was bad king crab& I got sick minutes after I got home from the restaurant. Do not...

Oh, oh, oh, oh!!! BAG 'O CRAB is our NEW...from the former NEWPORT BAY restaurant on Market Street & Hawthorne Blvd; , Bag 'O Crab...is the tastiest, juiciest, freshest, prepared food in town!!! So, it started out like this: My granddaughter Aaliyah Lovelyn was visiting and I asked her if she would like to join with our group The Amazing Black Queens of Salem, at the Bag O' Crab, restaurant. She gave out a HOOT and a BIG affirmation, saying, "crab is my absolute favorite meal to eat; I can eat tons and tons of crab!" The rest, as they say, is "her" story!!

ORDERED the #1Combo, Snow crab legs with Shrimp & *Sausage which we shared ...she having most of the crab, of course! The BIG SURPRISE is the "sauce!" Thought I was going to get a small saucer with garlic butter ahjus, BUT #BUTWaitForIt, it came LOADED with seasoned minced garlic in a humedd buttery melt...there was soo much left over that I took it home and used it in cooking some rice!! HATS OFF and finger-licking , admiration for CHEF MARVIN and his "crew!!" They RATE A #20!!

A PARTICULAR DELIGHT for me, hands down, was they had FRIED OYSTERS on the menu...AND they were HUGE, HUGE, spicy, and perfectly, textured, fried!! THIS is my new and "only" spot in town for fried oysters, now!! We shared a basket with sweet potato fries as appetizers!! #TopChefMarvin

Topping it off we had the salted caramel and chocolate ice cream scoops, for desert!!
