Some staff was great, others not so much. I was able to get a room next to the rest of the family we were staying with, but my room smelled like cigarettes and piss, the couch looked like a cat had scratched on it; the family's room was fine though.
We put in a complaint and was told that the maid service would try to handle it while we were out for the day, but it seems nothing changed when we got back aside from standard maid service. We tried with some air fresheners, but that would only mask the smell for so long. We ended up staying for another night after we had already checked out, the family ended up in the same room, and we were fearful to end up in the same room so we instead requested a queen room instead of a king room, and of course as fate would have it, that room too smelt of cigarettes but without the piss.
I appreciate that they do not make the bed if your stuff is on it though.
The pool was closed a bit for maintenance one day but then reopened thankfully. It seems everyone has plenty of reviews about the pool being closed.
The hot tub was closed the entire time though, and didn't seem to be opening up anytime soon.
The elevator is a PAIN, it is super slow, especially when everyone is trying to get out at the same time. It takes half a minute every time it goes to open the doors and just oddly sits there for a long time. So when folks are trying to leave the building it goes up hitting every floor until it gets to the top, then it hits every floor on the way back down, but nobody can come or go since they're all waiting to get to the bottom floor and the elevator is full at 5 people. So it ends up taking quite a while to go up and down. This has also been highlighted in many reviews. At least it was "working".
There are unmarked stairs, folks didn't even realize they existed until I told them how to get to them. Unfortunately they do not put you in the lobby and instead the back parking lot, which may be fine, but then they permanently lock during the evening.
Nobody was at the desk for quite some time while waiting to check out. After standing around for 20 minutes I decided to go to breakfast and checkout afterwards. It would be nice to have a bell, or at least a card drop for check out.
The location was great for proximity to the fair and other things as well as the highway/interstate.
We really enjoyed the Sassy Onion in the parking lot for breakfast and kept going back to it. They had great service & food there. Definitely try the french toast 🤯
They definitely need to work on trying to get the smoke smell out of the room. It's freaky since they say they're now putting a $100 deposit against the rooms when you check in. I don't want to get charged for something that isn't my fault that I have to deal with. I imagine they used to be smoking rooms until Oregon law likely changed. They need to do something like clean the walls, run an ozone machine, or some type of car freshening device.
Cops were there the first night. Not sure what was going on, it was a bit freaky, but...
Read morePut my daughter up here when she was going through some hard times. She called me shortly after checking in stating that the room did not have any towels at all and no TV remote control. She said she called the front desk and the guy offered to take a message for her. The next day when I was dropping her some food off around lunchtime, she said nobody had ever called her back or come up to the room to fix the issues. She ended up going to the pool area to take a couple towels out of there so she could take a shower , I went out in the hallway and found a housekeeper. He told me he was going on break and would come back up after his break. We sat in the room and talked for about an hour and nobody ever came. I went out in the hallway and this time found a lady housekeeper. She said she would let her boss know. We ran to the store to buy some supplies and came back about 1:45 PM. Nobody had still brought any towels or remote control to the room. I went and found the same housekeeper and she said she told her boss, she also told me that all the towels were in the laundry, and she did not have any to give us. Asked her about a remote control and she said that’s a maintenance problem. Nothing she can do about it. Certainly before 3 o’clock. Another lady housekeeper came to the door and asked what our problem was. She was very rude and kept interrupting us and told us we should’ve said something earlier in the day because they were getting ready to go home for the day.I asked for towels and a TV remote control. She left and never came back. The next morning my daughter told me that she had bug bites on her body. We stripped down the bed, as you can see the picture we found bedbugs all over the mattress. I had my daughter pick up her stuff, we went to the front desk to check out. We were told since we did not give 24 hours notice that we were going to still have to pay for this day. I asked to speak with a supervisor and the gentleman of the desk said that there was nobody available. I left my name and email address and never received a call. Three days later I called and was told the manager would be in at 10 AM, I called about 11 AM and was told the manager was not there yet. Call back again about 2:30 in the afternoon and was told the manager had just went home for the day. This went on for several days. I left my name and phone number with two different guys at the front desk, at least five different times and never received one phone call back from a manager. the cherry on top is my $100 deposit has yet to be released from the hotel. Shortly before writing this review, I called again, asking to speak with the manager. Was told his name is Don, again I left my name and phone number, but I’m not holding my breath for a...
Read moreAll was good until... The rude front desk lady. My stay was cut short by the rude front desk lady. First i will admit what I had done wrong was left my dogs unattended in my room, and they barked, and I have learned that is a pretty common rule that I was ignorantly disobeying, however when I returned to the hotel from the visit with my children to find my key unable to open the door to my room. I went to the front desk and an angry lady that sits there with RBF all day met me with her most condescending demeanor in telling me "that's because your dogs have been barking all day, constantly, and the card on file i tried to charge you the fine didn't work, and i know you read the dog policy because I WROTE IT" NOW GIVE ME A CARD THAT I CAN CHARGE THE FINE" I told the wicked witch of the west that I don't have any other cards, but if she would just tell me her price that I have cash on me now and can pay it immediately, and to that the beast snarled in reply WE DONT ACCEPT CASH , so I told her that I will just need to remove my dogs and my belongings and I will go somewhere else, I even apologized, and at that moment another coworker of hers entered the room, and she hurled her command in his direction "Would you remove this person, he is being combative " I was able to communicate with the coworker like a normal human, he was fair and understanding, and the gentleman that checked me in the night before was also a great person to be around, we shared life stories and even had some laughs, but that ,,,lady, omg , what a nightmare, im sorry for anyone that encounters this awful person. In the end I paid for 3 days, and what i got was one night of sleep, and then this... I actually liked the hotel a lot aside from the ghastly hollow hearted horned demon that haunts the entryway, emenating an aura of belittlement and disdain. I found the rooms to be nice and clean, I liked the parking situation, the dog park area was small, but i appreciated it and it was helpful. They even had laundry services available, I originally was thinking how much I actually was enjoying my stay and was unlikely to ever use any other hotel in the salem area. Amazing how one cold heart destroyed all that had been achieved by the people that had done their part in simply being reasonable and...
