We stayed here on an emergency basis when a camping trip went awry. It was a struggle to find a place that allowed our family of 5 in one room, and we paid at least twice what we typically would for a 2-star level hotel. The room I reserved on Priceline (2 queen beds, plus a small sofa) wasn't available because the maid service hadn't cleaned it. So we did luck out by getting two adjoining rooms for the same price, which was a bit more comfortable. It was clean, though I got the feeling the hall carpets could use a good going-over. It was really quiet. But. The cost to benefit ratio was terrible, to me. For about half the cost, we have often gotten a hot breakfast, an in-room microwave and mini fridge, free full wifi, a pool to enjoy, and things like complimentary razors or toothbrushes. Here, the breakfast was cold (other than a toaster for bagels, hot water for oatmeal or tea, and coffee) and pretty minimal. There were signs everywhere for the Perkins that was attached if you wanted to buy a hot breakfast. Sadly, it was closed when we got there and we ate snacks as dinner that night. The pool was closed (though no idea why, it looked fine), there was no microwave, and the free wifi was a throttled version. You had to pay if you wanted to get a connection that could play a movie or stream music. The wifi for the tv didn't work at all. And anything available in the convince store area was $5. A razor, a cup of microwave mac n cheese, a small box of tampons--all $5 each. The ice machine on our floor was out of order too, and the elevator was wonky, freaking out and opening/closing multiple times before finally settling . In all, it just shocked me, since the star level was supposed to be better than we are used to. Another thing to note--the man who checked us in did right by us, fighting the system to allow us the 2 rooms since none like we wanted were available. He was really rubbing others wrong though. I don't know if he was having a rough day or his personality is just a bit rougher or what, but I heard an interaction with the next guest, and he did sound rude. I spoke to that guest outside a bit later, and said I thought maybe the guy really didn't mean to be rude, and he said he saw him be rude with another guest too. He obviously was left with a bad taste. I've been on other side of customer service, so I kind of get being frustrated with the company and having your hands tied, which is what the situation I saw was, but he needs to work on his expression of that. He may be having a hard time at work, but he IS being paid and it's probably typical for the job. Most travelers arriving after 10pm also aren't having a wonderful or easy day, and either they aren't being paid to deal with it, or it isn't the kind of stuff they are supposed to be dealing with. In the end, we've stayed at WAY WAY worse places, though never for even near that cost. But we've also stayed in comparable or better for much less. We didn't regret it, but...
Read moreWhat a nightmare! We arrived late to the hotel and we stood in the lobby forever waiting on someone to come to the front and help us. My wife went around the counter since there was an open to go to the back and my wife found the front desk agent sleeping in the back room. I know she was embarrassed because she was surprised to see my wife. She was so unprofessional and she was wearing a sweatsuit and her sweater was small because it showed her stomachs. She had us in the lobby for a little over 15mins until my wife went to the back. This person shouldn’t be working these kind of shift if they sleep during their job. First she makes us wait and then she was rude. She had trouble checking us in and so she had called someone to help her. Are you serious. What a red flag. We finally got into our room and then the keycard to the room wasn’t letting us open the door. My wife goes back downstairs to the lobby only to find an empty lobby again. What the hell. Waits again goes to the back and she is on her phone. My tells her about the key and she’s trying to do it and you can hear beeping noise and she looks frustrated with the machine. My wife ask for her name because she didn’t have a badge and she said, Tina. Finally gets it right and my wife finally meets us on the second floor. Got sleep and we were tired. As we finish our wonderful breakfast with Sherrie, such a doll we go to checkout and ask when the shuttle should arrive the front desk lady because we had a 7am shuttle and it was just barely 7. She had asked us what room we were in and we gave it to her. She looked at the computer and apologized because we weren’t listed on the shuttle. We were at our last straw with the hotel because of Tina. The front desk lady told us that the shuttle runs every 30 minutes, I think it was 20th and 50. So there wasn’t a 7am time for the hotel. She called the shuttle driver and had asked if it was possible for a pick up as for 7:20am and the shuttle said yes. By 7:12 shuttle was at the hotel to grab our party of 6. Thank you Meli for such great customer service and going over and above to help us. We had a nightmare checking in and my wife almost had a panic attack with the shuttle issue, but we made on time for our flight because of the wonderful front desk agent. Thank you Sherrie and Meli for all your help. I hope you enjoyed your gift card Meli you...
