4 out of 5 stars I recently placed a to-go order from Saltgrass Steakhouse in San Antonio, and overall, the food was excellent, but the service could use some polishing—especially when it comes to the takeout experience. To start, I called to place my order, and no one answered the first time. I called again, and someone picked up quickly, which was fine. I ordered the 12 oz ribeye steak with loaded mashed potatoes, sweet potato fries, an additional side of a sweet potato (yes, I really like sweet potatoes), and tortilla soup. When I arrived, I wasn’t sure where to go for pickup. I asked the young guy at the front, and he looked confused, like maybe they don’t get many takeout orders. He told me to head to the back near the bar. Once back there, there wasn’t really a clear area to stand for pickup—it felt like I was awkwardly in the way of diners and bar guests, which made the experience a little uncomfortable. I eventually asked a bartender if my order was ready, and he checked—turned out it still needed about 10 more minutes, which I didn’t mind. When my food was finally ready, a young woman handed it to me and asked if I had paid. I said no, and she seemed flustered and nervously said, “OK, don’t go anywhere,” which was a little odd. Of course, I wasn’t going to leave without paying, but it just felt like the takeout process lacked a clear system and training. That said, the food itself was fantastic. The ribeye was juicy, tender, and had a great balance of fat and flavor. The loaded mashed potatoes were rich and creamy, and the cinnamon butter that came with the sweet potato was next-level good—seriously, I’d come back just for that. The tortilla soup was flavorful too, and a nice touch. One small note: if you order online, it only gives you the option of potato soup. But if you call in, they’ll offer you either potato or tortilla soup. That inconsistency was a bit strange, and it’d be nice if the online system gave all the options. Overall, I’ll definitely be back because the food is worth it. I just hope they improve the to-go process—it felt a bit like an afterthought, which took away from what was otherwise a great meal.

We went to celebrate a family member birthday. There were just three of us. The wait was a short 15 minutes. The staff and non seated customers were all wearing facemasks. The server was excellent. The appetizer was a queso dip with cilantro; it was very good. We all had 12 ounce ribeyes with baked potatoes. The steaks were medium well; they were slightly pink inside. The steaks were excellent. They were very tender and had very little fat. The meal included salad. Two were ceasar and one was a house salad. The salad portion size was good, and the bowl was good in that the salad could be cut or mixed without falling out of the bowl. I was very pleased overall. I will be returning in the future and highly recommend it. The prices may be higher than other steak houses, but it is well worth the money. This is an update for my last review. We went for an early dinner at about 3:30. It was not very busy and we were seated in about 15 minutes. We all had ribeyes once again. They were excellent. One person had a Pina colada, and I had a couple of draft beers. I had a ceasar salad, which was unusual for me, but I wanted something different. It was very good. The service was just okay.it was not terrible, but it could have been better. It won't stop me from going back. I highly recommend this restaurant for a great steak. This is a review on my visit for dinner on the 8th June. We had some drinks, the Pina coladas were made with the wrong juice and tasted awful. This was due to a new bartender. They made it right on our bill. The replacement drinks, pineapple margaritas were excellent. The beer was cold and went down easy. The ribeye steaks were perfectly cooked and the seasonings were very tasty. We hac ceasar salads and various side dishes and all were excellent. I would highly recommend trying the steaks.

Please pardon any typos or grammatical errors as I’m in a rush but had to take a few minutes to rave about the excellent service. I lost hope with restaurant service. After COVID service declined or got wiped out. As a consumer I shake my head to bad service but guess what people it’s alive and well at the Salt Grass off 410. Our server William, I believe was his name? Greeted us with what appeared to be a genuine smile, he look like he wanted to be there just to serve us, after bringing our drinks our waiter disappeared for awhile and as I made a comment I grabbed the next waiter and his name was Alfredo who immediately without rebuttal helped us and took our order without saying “I will go get ur waiter”. He was on target from knowing the menu to being professional. We all have encountered that one server who ignores you or pretends not to hear or see u just to service their own tables. He was perfect. As we waited I observed how the servers interacted with getting things done and at the same time stayed professional with All the customers. Alfredo even stopped to help the table cleaner. A man brought out our order and he too was on target with delivering great service and over head us saying where’s our shrimp.. he immediately took care of it without being combative or placing blame that we didn’t order it. Now days it seems one always gets a debate when asking a question about the Oder. I’m delighted to know excellent service can be found at Salt Grass off 410. Our waiter finally reappeared and apologized but made up with following up periodically and without asking brought a fresh glass of my beverage. It takes great team work to give this type of service. I saw where one cannot do another one picks up to get the job done and it’s called team work. Just for the service we would go back. As for the food I will not knock it and will say the steak was as it should be, mashed potatoes need improvement, mine were less than warm and overall presentation is not there yet…I agree food needs improvement. The food needs to make me yearn to go back…. But I won’t stop raving about Alfredo, my ghost waiter and the man who delivered our food, service was impeccable. ...
