SERVICE & TRANSITIONS -- ๐ poor Pleasant check-in: swift, professional, & thorough-- Tap pay also supported (great for those resorts fees)! The personalities felt "put on" & insincere. Interacting w/daytime employees was fantastically painful undesirable & ineffective. Operations suffered significantly when it came to communication, whether requesting service or basic information. Employees did not take feedback gracefully. Spiteful housekeeping staff; categorically denied service for 5 days.... sick & twisted behavior. The walk to our room was scenic but also exhausting after a long drive due to the flight of stairs for an upper unit. โ ๏ธ no bell service for heavy items. Signage could use a facelift, especially for check-in's after sundown. MVP employees: Nathan
ROOM [Oversized Garden View Suite, Grand Marina Suite] -- ๐ ok A modern Hawaii-inspired big-island-timeshare vibe. Clean & calming. Website photos weren't flattering or informing but their descriptions were true to form; dimensions felt definitively OVERSIZED. This level of spaciousness was exceptionally refreshing. Indoor lighting was somehow a lot and a little... notably dim & gloomy during overcast. The balcony offered no reprieve as "garden view" equated to "obstructed by palm trees & bird poop". Bummer. The lack of bird spikes/deterrents + the irregular cleaning intervals exemplified a tier of low-effort. The oversized Marina suite was uninspired & not worth the upsell. It's identical to the Oversized Queen, but features more empty common area space. โ ๏ธ Housekeeping will not service rooms occupied by guests; a daft & quite inconvenient policy. At worst it's disingenuous considering the safe (14" x 1.5" x 16") is just large enough for a single unopened laptop. Turnover is also performed with doors wide-open, on multiple rooms at once. Ripe conditions for something to "go missing".
BED [Queen] -- ๐ good A supportive Serta hospitality mattress that provided quality sleep. There's still much to be desired from this setup due to the inconsistent pillow fill, undersized bedding, & makeshift duvet situation. Sheet quality was just "ok", but everything was clean, so good enough. The bed-side utility was a standout: multiple outlets + USB ports galore & reading lights in some configurations. Queen-sized sofa sleeper included in suites.
TV SOLUTION/ACTIVITIES -- ๐ ok 2x 55" UHD LG Hospitality TV's -- a gorgeous display for 4k content. Ports were easily accessible & there were multiple streaming integrations incl. Netflix, Amazon Prime, & Showtime. Combined with the Local programming + on-demand DirectTV, it was a formidable entertainment center. It wasn't as optimized for quality/UX: constant buffering, sluggish UI navigation, & ads galore ๐ตโ๐ซ๐ซ๐ค. โผ๏ธ there's wayyy too much chlorine used in the jacuzzi. โผ๏ธ The fitness center is more of a 'personal gym' due to the size. Readily felt cramped with just 3 guests & was always occupied.
FOOD & DRINK -- ๐ ok DoorDash friendly. Beverages & junk food were available for purchase in the lobby (wine, instant noodles, energy drinks, etc). The restaurant was too much of a hassle to deal with. Their Thanksgiving buffet was a thoughtful offering with a robust menu. Sadly, the coordination & management was severely lacking. They're insufficiently equipped to converse on dietary restrictions or intents, & it's impossible to obtain nutrition info. The out-of-date webpages, lack of allergen information, & counterintuitive use of QR codes (latest menu on OpenTable FYI) was so frustrating. The kitchenette, thankfully, was fantastic -- clean & fully equipped, with an inviting design. Great for hosting guests or cooking for a big family. in-room: โ microwave (mini) โ fridge (full) โ coffee/tea โ wet-bar โ mini-bar
NOISE -- ๐ bad There are quiet hours (9pm) posted. but murders (๐ฆโโฌ) , squabbling squadrons, & kid-screams, made it difficult to relax.
RECOMMENDATION Final Price: $266.58/night Was it worth it? no Best part: location Personally, I can't see myself returning nor would I recommend this...
ย ย ย Read moreSo we visit SD from TX a couple times a year and this was our first stay at Humphreys Half Moon Inn. Overall, it was a great stay but two things really stuck out that need addressing. Pros: location, Shelter Island was great and so convenient to everything including Ocean Beach & Hillcrest. The drive to La Jolla for our anniversary dinner wasn't bad, either. Another pro: this property is beautiful! And well-maintained, super clean. The room was spacious, clean and had a nice view of the marina. Loved the full-size fridge, stove top, microwave and the bathtub was actually adult sized, not tiny. The tub did have some weird staining but I just attribute that to it being an older property. Plenty of towels, blankets, pillows and tissue were provided for our entire stay. Plenty of parking. Wonderful property with a lot of charm. Another pro: the pool is FABULOUS. We loved that it had a deep end. The hot tub was also amazing and roomy. Now, the cons: HOSPITALITY! This place just missed the mark. We've been spoiled I guess and other properties are very intentional in asking about if you're in town for anything special, making suggestions, etc. This one did not. We'd requested a second-floor room. They said they'd call us when the room was ready and he gave us a pool key (great feature! Although, be warned there is no public shower but you could easily just dry off and go on about your day until you get into your room, there are clean pool towels). Anyhow, we went to check out a few of our favorite spots, grab some essentials we'd need for the week and hang out at the cliffs. We got a call a bit after 3:30. Arrived to the hotel a bit after 4 to just about one of the rudest people we've encountered at a hotel. We asked for a second floor room and after some back and forth, blaming us, etc, she offered to move us the next day since there were none available. We're reasonable people, her rudeness, lack of apology for the hotel's mistake& blaming us was the problem. She did offer to move rooms the next day but who wants the hassle of lugging all their things across the property again? Super inconvenient. My next issue with the hospitality here is most hotels give you a list, suggestions on fun things to do nearby. Three days into the stay I went to ask about something nice/special I could do as a surprise for my husband. I was given the list of restaurants nearby. I don't know, it just wasn't the response or level of hospitality received at other places. The only person encountered at the front desk who acted like they were trained in customer service and like we weren't inconveniencing them is Brandi. She was awesome but I met her at checkout so perhaps it would've been a different experience had we dealt with her exclusively. 3 out of the 4 we dealt with during our stay could learn a thing or two from Brandi. Another huge con is the bed situation. They are rock hard! My back was killing me and it was really difficult to sleep with the condition of these mattresses. My husband's back was also hurting and he usually doesn't have back issues. There are a TON of wonderful things about this property but the lack of hospitality left a bad taste in our mouths. Better beds would be nice, too. Would we return? Probably! Hopefully the hospitality is much...
ย ย ย Read moreWe recently held our wedding at the Humphreyโs Half Moon Inn, and it was the most beautiful reception that we could have imagined. We held our reception at the Harborview Room, we had 55 people and we went with their day package. Darla, the Catering and Special Events Manager, was our contact and assisted us with the wedding planning process at the venue. Darla had wonderful customer service and met with us several times before the wedding to bring the wedding planner and my dear friend, who helped us with dรฉcor. To start there are so many beautiful green foliage, thereโs the beautiful Marina with the Yachts, and you are also at Shelter Island so you have beautiful shots you can take across the street from the venue with the San Diego Skyline. There was a lot of free parking choices. The linens, napkins and chairs were beautiful. Looking out of the windows into the marina and yachts was breathtaking. You also are able to step out onto the deck. The food was delicious, the hors dโoeuvres, the appetizers, we had the Cesar salad, we went with the Chicken Florentine, and even the rolls were nice and warm for us. The drinks were also very well made. We had a lot of family from out of town, including Mexico City, Canada, Texas, and it was important to provide a special reception for our loved ones. Everyone raved about how beautiful it was. It looked like a million bucks wedding, and it was totally affordable. The serverโs and bartenders were also really courteous, most amazing customer service. The venue sets everything up like tables and chairs. You were able to choose which ever vendor you wanted, which is nice because sometimes you have to go with the required vendors. We had the opportunity to stay overnight as well, and it was such a beautiful room and atmosphere. Family who also stayed in the hotel, stated it was wonderfully situated by the marina and by the airport. The reception ambiance was so light, elegant, and really filled with love. Our family even called us architects of wedding planning, but the service and quality of the Humphreyโs Half Moon Inn really had a lot to do with it. We highly, highly, recommend the venue based on the quality and affordability. We truly had the wedding of our dreams.
We used the following vendors, we recommend checking them out: Wedding Planning- Elizabeth Worrell Weddings and Events DJ- Desert Music Entertainment Flowers- Liz Flowers Cake- Frost Me Cafรฉ and bakery Photographer- Naiya Ross Photography (Pls keep in mind, wedding was recent and the pictures included for the reviews were taken by family members) Videographer- A...
