I had really high hopes for this hotel, and we really did have a great time, though there were a couple things I would love to see different if we were to return. Our room was great, we stayed in a Marina view double queen standard room. We were able to see the fireworks from Sea World every night from our balcony, and the seals playing during the day. Great view! The pools were fun, though I was expecting them to be a bit bigger. They are all fairly small, though they were all slightly different temperatures, so it was nice to be able to pick what you wanted. The biggest pool with no slides was quite warm, and we were able to swim until it closed at 10 every night comfortably! On Friday night they did a poolside movie on a projector that my kiddos loved! The stairs for the water slides were a little gross and rusty and sort of smelled like cat pee, but over all other than the pools being small, and as a result, the chairs being a hot commodity it was great! We didn't really spend much time at the pool during the peak of the day though. I would imagine it was probably more crowded than would be comfortable in the middle of the day. There is a cute area with some lawn games. However, it is tiny. I think it is a great idea, but not nearly big enough for the size of the hotel. The elevators were kind of a nightmare during busy times of day (morning and evening) because there were only a few - again, not enough for the size of the hotel so it was not uncommon to wait 10 minutes or more to get on an elevator, and once you got on people packed in like sardines. The food was VERY over priced and not great. There was a little grab and go breakfast spot down by the marina which had okayish food - basically starbucks type breakfast items that were processed and reheated - for a family of 5 it was $77 to get a couple breakfast sandwiches and drinks which seemed kind of insane. We quickly learned to go down the street to Einstein Bagels instead. The more upscale restaurant was also very expensive and none of us liked our food, it was all incredibly salty, and I don't remember ever thinking that at a restaurant before. So that was a bummer because with getting cheaper things on the menu it was still a $200 dinner and not at all satisfying. We were able to check out free beach chairs, a big sun canopy, beach toys, and boogie boards for use at the beach from the front desk which was awesome! They have a big fire pit out by the pool, and one by the lawn games were you can make smores. They sell smores kits - but it is $15 for a kit with 4 marshmallows. I would definitely recommend grabbing your own supplies at a grocery store near by instead - but it was a fun experience, and I love that they offer it! Even with the things I would change, I will say, for the location and activities at the hotel I thought it was a great value! We were there for 5 nights and paid just under $1,400 including parking and all fees (parking is $50 per night) so not bad! There is a free shuttle than runs to old town and sea world at the hotel as well. The self parking lot does tend to fill up if you come back to the hotel in the evening so you end up having to use vallet - they don't charge you the extra $5 for the vallet service, but definitely bring cash for tips because you will likely end up using vallet against your will. We rented jet skis down at the marina and were able to go all over the bay and see sting rays and seals - we also took a day trip over to La Jolla with all our beach gear and brought our own snorkels to swim with the leopard sharks - very cool experience! The bay is obviously much calmer water, but also about 10 degrees warmer than the ocean which was nice! The ocean was however, relatively warm too! I would definitely recomend looking into the various go city ticket options for tickets to do things in the area, we were able to save quite a bit of money this way! Over all, we loved the trip, and even with the downsides mentioned above, I would totally come back! Adding that the restaurant by the pool has fun poolside drinks and...
Read moreWe came to celebrate our Anniversary. Thank you to Melanie for making our Anniversary trip memorable with champagne and chocolates in our room. The noted postcards from Melanie and staff were very sweet. We considered extending our trip but encountered a few issues during the trip. Overall, we had a wonderful Anniversary trip but experienced hiccups throughout the stay. All the front desk staff are kind, friendly and courteous. The service is great. We did notice, different staff would give different responses. Our bed was super comfy as expected from Hyatt. We got a complimentary upgrade on the tower 3rd floor. I found out later, the best views of the Marina and Mission Bay are floors 5-17. I wish we had a better view but we were happy to be away to celebrate together. Our room was clean. We didn’t have bath robes or a tissue box. We requested for the bath robes and got them right away. Self-parking or Valet is $50/day. Resort stay $39/day.
We checked in early, our room wasn’t ready. They said they would send our bags up to our room and they didn’t when we returned to check in. The bell boy was friendly and jolly at first but his tone changed when my boyfriend apologized we didn’t have cash on us to tip. He suggested my boyfriend go pull out cash at their ATM in the lobby - which my BF did because we were appreciative of his help. His demeanor change was unexpected and left a bad taste.
We didn’t get all the things needed upon check in such as our complimentary Marina water-sports tickets and parking permit. Oddly, we got them on different days of our stay. We were not able to use the complimentary tickets because the Marina kiosk was closed, possibly because it was Veterans Day.
Another day, our room keys didn’t work when we returned from a night out. We got it changed and fixed right away.
We requested for housekeeping on day 2 while we went to the jacuzzi, and they never came. We asked again when we returned to the room and got it scheduled again when the room was going to be vacant. It was inconvenient to return to our room, in wet bathing suits with no clean towels. They took 15-20 mins to bring us clean towels, after we showered.
It is a family friendly stay. There were lots of kids in the pool area, running around. This is nothing the hotel can control, but other hotel guests were just blocking jacuzzi entrances or had their kids blocking entrances. There was a lack of self awareness to others.
They waived our resort fee because wifi didn’t work in our room the whole stay. Isabella was kind and helped us sort that out. Another front desk employee made a great Italian dinner recommendation to Mimmo’s. We loved it for our anniversary dinner.
Bf considered extending our stay and asked for a quote. We came back that night to ask again to see if we were going to do so, and our stay was already extended without us confirming it. It was fixed right away and then we were told there wasn’t any availability, which is understandable. After considering all the hiccups, I was glad we didn’t extend.
Upon checking out, I recommend checking your receipt. When we checked out, we were charged a pet fee $75. We didn’t have any pets. It got taken care of right away. I emailed the manager of our experience and didn’t get a response.
Overall, everyone in SD and the hotel was kind and addressed our needs as fast or to the best of their ability. I’ve stayed at many other Hyatts and this one was my least favorite stays given our special occasion. We probably will not return. Regardless, we still made the most of our stay and glad we got to experience it. We are grateful for all those who did make our stay,...
Read moreTraveling with my family should have been a joyous occasion, filled with excitement and anticipation. However, our recent stay at the Hyatt Mission Bay Hotel turned into a series of unfortunate events that left us deeply disappointed and frustrated.
Our troubles began right from the start, with a grueling 5 1/2-hour commute that left us exhausted and eager to check into our reserved two-bed tower room with a balcony. However, upon arrival, we were informed by Tyler at the check-in desk that there had been errors on the hotel's side, leading to a downgrade in our reservation. Instead of the promised room with a balcony, we were placed in a different building, much farther from the bay and without a balcony. While we were assured that parking and reservation fees would be waived, it was a small consolation for the downgrade we experienced.
Determined to salvage our experience, I spoke with Angelique (or Monique) at the front desk, hoping to secure a room with a balcony. She kindly offered us a room to view, which turned out to be in the same building but with obstructed views. It begged the question of why this room wasn't offered to us initially, before the downgrade. Frustrated but trying to remain calm, we returned our keys and waited in line once again.
During dinner at the hotel's restaurant, we encountered further issues. A 15-minute wait for our table turned into a slow and unimpressive dining experience, coupled with overpriced meals. When attempting to charge the meal to our room, we discovered that we had been checked out of our room without our knowledge, leading to more delays and frustrations.
After dinner, we faced yet another hurdle as we waited in line to obtain new key cards to access our room. The thought that our room could have been assigned to another guest at any moment added to our stress. When I finally requested to speak with the manager, Monique informed me that she was in charge and offered a full refund. However, given that it was Spring Break and finding another room elsewhere was impractical, I declined.
Monique then suggested signing me up for Hyatt points for a free night, but this wouldn't be activated in time for our stay. Frustrated by the lack of suitable solutions, I agreed to move to a tower room on Thursday night, after being informed there were no available rooms with a view of the bay until then.
The next morning, our troubles continued as our room key failed to work at the self-parking lot. This led to additional delays and forced us to valet our car, which we were assured would be comped due to the full self-parking lot. However, even this promise fell through as we were issued new keys that failed to work.
In my attempt to address these issues, I spoke with the manager who informed me that parking was waived but the resort fee was not. He also rectified the additional night's stay that was added to our reservation with our our knowledge or approval. Despite being promised a call from the manager's supervisor, I never received one, highlighting the lack of follow-through and accountability.
In conclusion, our experience at the Hyatt Mission Bay Hotel was marred by a series of errors, miscommunications, and unfulfilled promises. The lack of adequate resolution and poor customer service left us deeply dissatisfied and unlikely to recommend this hotel to others. It serves as a cautionary tale of the importance of transparent communication, efficient problem-solving, and genuine care for guests' experiences in the...
