Fish Further Charters — Attraction in San Diego

We had an excellent day on the water with Dan McGonagle from Fish Further Charters in August 2025. It was a last minute trip to San Diego and we wanted to try tuna fishing. After a number of phone calls and emails we were given Dan’s name from another charter outfit who were already booked but recommended Dan. We were glad they did, he had availability on the day we wanted and his price was reasonable. He responded right away and was very easy to communicate with, he answered all our questions. There were four of us, my wife and two children.

We ended up catching two bluefin tuna and a calico bass later in the day near the Coronado Islands in Mexican waters. We went for the morning in the deep water south of the islands but had no luck so Dan decided to move back north in the hopes we could catch a tuna. He worked hard looking for signs of fish and coaching us when we were reeling the fish in, we did spot hundreds of dolphins, and a couple whales as well which was very cool. His boat is clean and he definitely knows what he is doing and we would recommend him to anyone in the future. If we come back to San Diego for fishing we would definitely contact him again.

The bonus for us is he coordinated the processing of our fish, all we had to do was go pick it up at Coast to Coast Fish Processing which ended up being only 15min from our hotel. They did a great job packaging and we have cooked some up since we have been home, it was excellent. If you need fish processed Corey Thomson is the contact and it made for a perfect end to a fishing trip having our tuna professionally packaged, again for a reasonable price, and we couldn’t have asked for it to be more convenient with Dan arranging everything.

I would like to share my experience on the Fishing trip, fishing charter my family booked recently, I called ahead and spoke with Dan who turned out to be the captain of the Fish Further Charters, I explained to him I was interested in visiting San Diego and wanted to take my family offshore fishing he asked me several questions and suggested either Island on inshore fishing because of the season, He stated that the Offshore fishing is more summer and bluefin yellow Tail and swordfish sailfish are not in season and expertly made some suggestions for our upcoming adventure. Booking was incredibly simple efficient and organized. Nothing was left to chance, tips and weather conditions were updated periodically close to the outing. The meeting point was super simple, the boat was spotless and well stocked, had a refrigerator, galley and toilet, instructions and info was very simple and easy to follow, From start to finish the trip was effortless. As a Dad I appreciated the turn key atmosphere, my wife and 2 kids 9 and 7 were treated like royalty, Captain Dan put us on the fish immediately and with his expert equipment and techniques it continued all day. During our adventure he located and showed us Dolphins Sea Lions Seals and Even whales we caught almost our limit and he even cleaned and packaged afterwards, was definitely a trip to remember for life and my kids and wife are already asking when we can go again. 9 hour off shore tuna fishing with Captain Dan - It was an awesome fishing experience !!

Catching a bluefin tuna was my last bucket list We caught six 15-20 lb yellow tail right off the bat Yellow tails are great fighting fish, pound per pound they pull hard

After filling up the ice box, we headed out 35 miles to look for tuna. Searching for little more than hour, Captain Dan found bluefin!! He went up the boat and searched with powerful binoculars - He knows how to find the fish !!

Caught 2 bluefin tuna - 30-40lb - it sure was once in a lifetime bluefin tuna experience It is not like trolling 6 rod and waiting for tuna to bite, I casted live bait and caught tuna myself- it was a true tuna catching experience from beginning to end

We had enough time to catch more but 6 yellow tail and 2 bluefin tuna was more than enough

We headed home 2 hours early - and captain Dan was nice enough to clean all fish for us
