We stayed for a last minute trip weekend trip to San Juan. Overall our stay was ok. Tips to make the stay better. Bring a camp towel so you can use the towel provided to clean up the water on the bathroom floor after you shower. I also brought a small camp towel to dry my hands on after washing my hands.
Bring a blanket because it can get cool at night and there really isn't a blanket on the bed just a pretty coverlet. (I travel will a camping blanket so we were fine)
The bed is a full not a queen so be prepared to snuggle if there are two of you. 😊 (This is in the description be is easily missed)
The private room is inside of a a dorm that has multiple (6) bunk beds and you all share one bathroom. There is another bathroom and several showers downstairs in the common area.
The private rooms have a pretty glass door so the lights from the dorm could be distracting if the unit was at full capacity or if you need complete darkness to sleep so bring a sleep mask.
The windows have storm shutters but no glass so you hear all the street noises (cars, brights, alarms, etc). I brought my air pods and ear plugs to dampen the sound.
The room has a kitchen sink, and a refrigerator. The common area has a refrigerator, microwave, swings and seating.
We found a nice coffee shop 787 coffee and great food truck at Lote 2 (Pernileria Los Proceres) within walking distance. The bacon and cheese empanada and Bayqan sandwich were delicious.
We used Uber to get around and never felt unsafe on or sound the hostel. Everyone we encountered was nice and Carlos was friendly and super helpful.
I would change the room description to semi private room and be a bit more transparent about the max number of people you might have to share the bathroom with. (16 if they were fully booked)
If you need a cheap safe place to stay and you come prepared you will enjoy your stay. Better yet bring 15 friends and book the...
Read more😊: The kitchen was small but working. It was within my budget. Quite a quiet place. Convenient bus stops nearby but travel to sight seeing are still quite far.. 😢: I stayed at this hostel for a few days. On the last day, while I was in the shower, a girl (she claimed her brother owns the hostel) yelled through the bathroom door, “Which bed are you?”, “What is your name?” loudly and angrily. Before I could answer, she repeatedly yelled, “You have to come out of the bathroom, now!”. I had never spoken to her before this moment. I quickly dressed up, thinking there was an emergency. She continued to be abusive in her language. At one point, he shouted in my face, “f..king tourist”. I kept asking her why she was speaking like this to her guest, but she was too in a tantrum to listen.
Later in the evening, when I was about to retire for the day, I found that the private stuff I had left on the bed had been removed and placed in the reception common area. Her excuse was that she had to clean the bed (they have not cleaned the bed for several days since I moved in).
Later, I also discovered that some of my salad, which had been marked with a marker, had disappeared from the fridge.
She offered a few excuses: that her staff had assigned me a bed number different from the bed. She thought I had not paid (each of the few days' payments had been deducted through booking.com). The excuses were childish.
Just the day before, her brother, accompanied by one of his staff, had checked with me and gone away satisfied.
Why was it necessary to force a guest to come out of the bathroom immediately? Who gave a host the right to yell abusive language at the guest, more so when I had not even spoken to her before? When I asked, shouldn't you apologize? She replied, “I have nothing to apologize for”.
Let’s see if Management will offer any insight.

Read more$30 per night for a bunk bed, this is the cheapest hostel in San Juan. All the doors are opened with codes, facility is clean. Comfortable beds, really good kitchen area, good wifi & showers. Location is average, 30 mins walk to the beach, close to train station. The low stars are for the following reasons- Security Reasons - they have the same codes since months, & I have seen a person(previous guest) enter at 3am, since he already know the codes and slept on an empty bed in the dorm and left early in the morning without a reservation. Outdoor seating is limited and fully covered so it's dark. They use a green carpet all over outdoor areas, never seen them clean it. When it rains, it's leaky and the carpet is wet for days and breeding grounds for mosquitoes. They will eat you alive, other hostels don't have this mosquito problem. The manager Carlos, walks around everyday and don't even expect a smile. He doesn't even make an eye contact, same goes to their staff who are young women volunteers (they don't get paid, free bed) from Europe. Some of them are hospitable, but others don't even have common courtesy how to talk to customers. If you are there for a Night or two, you will not observe much but that security issue is concerning, it's easy to break the locks of the locker or grab your phone from the room while you are sleeping because lot of previous guests have been living on the island for months who know the codes for most...
