Great, convenient location if U want to explore Santurce/Miramar by just walking. 4 blocks away is Ciudadela which has a 24 hr Pueblo, Planet Fitness, & Mercado La Carreta cafe. Directly across for Ciudadela is a food truck food court called Lote 23 (very tasty, interesting mix). Also don't miss Abracadaba brunch & local coffee spot 787 Coffee. Also couple of good Mex restaurants on Ave José de Diego. U can use this same road to walk to Condado beach 🏖️ area, approx 15 minutes. There are also electric 🛴 on the sidewalks for rent.Right next to hotel just down hill is La Casona (beautiful garden restaurant & fine dining). Just across street from this,on Avenida Juncos, is Burrillos Santurce; a really tasty & very good prices casual Mex 🌯 spot (order at counter & sit). 3 min walk....Even though location is excellent, the hotel itself is definitely budget. No significant amenities, small rooms & even smaller bathrooms. Water pressure on low side. Rooms have flat panels & cable (didn't use though). AC as much nicer, quiet split type units, worked very well. Small rooms also much easier & quicker to cool. Kinda old, outdated & funky (but also a lot of character), but if U just need a functional place to crash, the room prices are very very good! $65-80/night vs $400 ?!? Also has 1 self serve laundry wash n dry machines. In lobby is a small cafe-type seating area. Free wifi, but kinda slow. Depending on room location, there can be noise issues. Rooms directly above the Asia di Lima restaurant's exhaust fan (on Calle San Jorge side) should keep windows closed btwn 4-11pm to minimize cooking exhaust odors.Anyway... would definitely stay here again; especially if the room rates ate below $80/day. And don't really need a lot of fluff; not on vacation to hang out in tiny room or hotel property. If U want the resort experience... Caribé Hilton, Vanderbilt, La Concha, or Sonesta or El San Juan in Isla Verde... but you're paying $300-800/night !!If U stay here, don't be shy! Get out & walk around as much as possible... you'll be surprised by all the off-the-beaten path cool stuff you'll find. A much more authentic...
Read moreMy sister & I snuck off before Snow Storm hit Philly without booking hotel & ended up here. On the phone Fausto was helpful and directed us there. The hotel itself was lovely, clean and Green where the lights turned on with motion detectors in the gorgeous walkways that we opted to use rather than the elevators. We had a double room with air conditioner, but we never used it because we opted for open windows instead to enjoy the San Juan fresh air.
A lovely terrace overlooked the streets with free wi-fi. There was free coffee in the mornings, but we opted for the little restaurant on the corner for some native foods.
The beach was a nice straight 20 minute or so walk to the beautiful scenic ocean; but the waves were viscous, so you'd better know how to swim. Evidently that side of the island has stronger waves because we went to the Hyatt and the waves there were loads calmer and a much easier swim.
Transportation is very easy in San Juan - its only a 10 minute taxi drive to the airport. and the buses are only .75 cents. You could actually take the bus from/to the airport and transfer at Isla Verde to the hotel. BUT it will take you almost 2-1/2 hours on the bus; both streets on either side of the Hotel's street has buses that will take you down to the tourist section for shopping and restaurants and Old San Juan its actual walking distance, because my sister tricked me into walking back to the hotel from the restaurant and I'm recovering from a broken ankle, so its not a bad walk, maybe 1/2 hour or so at a leisure stroll.
So, San Jorge is in a nice location, close to everything including the beaches, its inexpensive, clean and the staff are fantastic. I'm planning another trip to San Juan in a few days & I'm going back to this hotel again, so I really liked it.
The front desk staff Juan and Fausto were fabulous. They were helpful with directions and where to eat and go to the beach & the lovely room we were in was less than $60 per night. stayed there...
Read moreThis place was so disgusting all host were very nasty and bad attitudes the only nice people were the cleaning ladies and gentleman . The bathroom had mildew and sand from the last people who stayed they give you towels that are paper thin and the bedding was the same . No ice machine no free water or beverages snacks ect the overnight crew was lazy the heavy set gentleman with a ponytail has a very disgusting attitude I asked him for ice he said there wasn’t any when indeed there was he just had to go into the break room and get some but he just sat down and continued to roll his eyes asked for plastic forks he said there wasn’t any also not friendly at all . The rooms are so close together you can hear the guest pee and pooop having sex . The television was from 1960s no channels worked not even the remote I had to use the buttons on the TV the A/C was not so great water was splashing on us while we were asleep .. although the cleaning people were friendly they would open the door without consent while we were still sleeping to clean the room . Strong stench of marijuana I smelled it through the windows even in the elevator .. the balcony was the best part on the second floor .. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THE PRICE IS WHAT YOU GET .. great area close to everything but horrible hotel it should b more of a HOSTLE for what they give you .. PS payed 800$ for 8 nights couldn’t even give us a courtesy for one extra hour the day we were checking out booked a double room and gave us a single ..
