This is a 'young' hotel. We had high hopes for the stay. While the staff were professional and friendly, maintenance and housekeeping had a lot of issues.
Upon walking into the room and taking a seat at the sofa, we noticed that there were food crumbs on the carpet after we moved the ottoman out of the way. This means housekeeping didn't even vacuum the area. We then tried to make coffee. There was a spent coffee bag in the machine while the coffee machine had its cord wrapped around the machine. This tells you either the spent coffee bag has been there for a while, or housekeeping didn't even check the tray after the last guest checked out.
Being a relatively young hotel, you would expect not to have issues with the hardware. This is not the case. The quality of the install was a joke. The shower valve plate was crooked. The toilet paper holder was crooked. If the installer didn't have a level, just line it up against the grout line or the edge of the sink base cabinet. How hard can it be? The towel rack came off when we tried to take a towel off the rack. Upon closer inspection, the fasteners for the towel rack were not fastened....on both sides. This is really a Marriott property? How did all these issues get past the inspection by Marriott?
The motion sensor for the bathroom light was really annoying. When I took a shower, the motion sensor was unable to sense beyond the shower glass. So I had to open the shower door to get the light back on. Imagine doing this a few times while taking a shower.
The breakfast was also not up to par. The variety was lacking. Food in plastic wraps were put in the warmer. I don't remember breakfast being this bad in a TownPlace Suites hotel. The breakfast staff was friendly though.
Although the location of the hotel is ideal and everything is about 10 minutes away except for Paso Robles. I will be looking elsewhere for my stay next time...
Read moreOverall, I would rate this place a 2.5/5 experience due to the amount of times we had to talk to maintenance during this stay. We had to call them for faulty lock (the battery on the door lock had died) at least 3 times so our keys didn't work and the sink in the beginning of our stay clogged before we even could do anything. I will say the front desk was nice of them to offer us something free from the front convenience store, but there were so many friction points I would not come back.
Location: Located in between a bunch of car dealerships and close to the highway. Without the window closed, you'll hear the constant sound of the highway in the background and it's quite loud. It is close to downtown SLO and close to a Target for things you might need and Costco is right around the corner for gas.
Room itself: 3/5 cleanliness. I found the dishes and utensils in the kitchen dirty when I came in. The bathroom sink was clogged when we used it for the first time and we had to call for maintenance to come. I had found someone else's hair inside the bathroom shower as well before we even stayed. The toilet and shower were not cleaned well also so there were spots you can see yellow at.
Breakfast: 3/5 - the standard breakfast at a hotel. It includes, waffles you make yourself, apples, bananas, gluten-free blueberry muffins, coffee / tea, apple / orange juice / milk, oatmeal with toppings, 2 types of yogurt, chocolate chip scones, boiled eggs and heated up individually packed burritos. I probably am missing some things.
Parking: 5/5 - plenty of parking spots out front w/ EV parking available
Gym: 4/5 - Your standard gym with a few treadmills, bikes, and a few sets of weights. Thankfully there are wipes, towels and one-time use headphones there. It did smell a bit at...
Read moreGood: -Staff was wonderful, courteous and polite. -hotel and room was very clean (and new). Kitchenette is very nice. -free breakfast (can't complain) and free coffee/hot water all day. -convenient location in SLO -free parking and good amount of parking available -nice outdoor space with fire pits -clean, decent sized gym with free weights -heated pool
Bad: -some very wonky specific things with the hotel/room. Our shower plate was not secured and spun freely. I don't think I've even sheen shoddy work like this in a motel 6. -bathroom light is on a sensor and turns off every few mins. Yes, I showered in the dark after the first 2 minutes... This needs to be changed to a on/off switch -bathroom fan also on a sensor and does NOT turn on when needed. Only turns on with moisture sensor but not anything else (c'mon I was in the room with 2 guys!) -they ran out of breakfast at 830a (breakfast hrs are 6a-9a) one of the days we were there. We repeatedly asked the staff for food and she would only bring out a few at a time (e.g. 5 sandwiches, a small bowl of eggs, etc)... A lot of people didn't get food and gave up. If you're going to offer breakfast until 9a, it should be fully stocked thru 9a! -breakfast could've been better... There is no usual breakfast fare like scrambled eggs or bacon/sausage patty. What you get instead is jimmy dean sandwich, which was really salty and cheesy. Just some plain scrambled eggs...
