Sandbox On the Beach — Hotel in Siesta Key

We've stayed at Sandbox on the beach for about 6 years and to be perfectly honest this is the only year we had an issue. We always stay in unit 192 which is the twin home. The location is amazing because you are a few steps from the sand so to me this is 5 star. There is also a building right next to it which has a few apartments. Roger, the owner is the sweetest person. He has always accommodated us. Even one year when there was severe red tide he helped us change the stay. I'm telling you that he has always been amazing and very friendly. This year we had some issues with the AC and the internet. Again, this is the first time we have had an issue. We had to message the office personnel a few times until the issue was resolved. It was a bit annoying to have to be on top of that but this could happen anywhere. The reason I am giving this a 3 star is the way things were handled. I thought that messaging the staff to fix what is wrong is ok to do specially the AC because it was so hot outside, but apparently that bothered them. When I called the office to rent for next year they told me that they were not going to rent to us because we had sent too many messages and they determined we were not happy. With all the discomfort we were never rude and the feedback from them was fine. Throughout our stay they never expressed anything negative. This was my home every year for one week for the past 6 years. I do not discourage people to rent here because although some things are older, it is a wonderful place to stay. This year they had a new cleaning company which was better than before. The reason I'm writing this review is for the staff to know that it is ok for your guest to speak out and let you know what is wrong with the unit because that is your job to do. Your guests should feel welcomed and comfortable throughout their stay. Your guests, specially those coming back year after year is what makes it be a prosperous business. Although staff told me she spoke to Roger about this and he agreed, I don't think that is true. I believe he would of handled things differently. I am making an edit on this post because after this review which I hought was a positive one.. we were told we can not come back next year due to this review . They said we were unhappy and should not return. They gave pur reserved room to someone else. Very unprofessional. I do there is an updated model next door which is a little more expensive but very nice. I would suggest staying there instead. If you book sand box on the beach you cannot make a review and if you do they will not allow you to stay the following year. This was my original post before we were told we cannot come back. "We come every year to sand box on the beach. It has a great kitchen and updated apartment. We had some AC issues this year but the owners got someone out here right away. The view is stunning and the walk to the water is about three minutes. Dont get me wrong the beach is in your back yard, just a lot of sand to walk through. There are three bedrooms and a sofabed. The couch is not recomened to sleep on as it is very springy. The sand is extremely soft and there is a hose to take the sand off on your way back to the patio. We also rent a golf cart for the week so that we can go to the local bars and food places that are about 2 minutes away at most. Every morning we sit outside and drink some coffee before the sun covers the patio and you will be in awe of how silent and calming it is. I recomend staying here although it is very pricy for the week and increasing in price...

You know, I would love to meet the people that left negative reviews about this place. Because they must be incredibly miserable. Yes, it's true, this place is not fancy or flashy, but it has everything you need to be content and happy. We stayed in unit 192, which is upstairs, door 3. Hot water, incredibly fast internet, directv, a kitchen, two beds, and a comfortable couch. Also, it has a very cold air conditioning and incredible views. Not to mention that you're about 400-500 feet from the beach. I will say this, if you have a severe handicap, I would request the rooms downstairs. Also, there should be a couple of 'watch your step' signs, as there's a lot of levels that are uneven outside, mostly on the deck. Other than that, I really have no complaints. Check in is at 3 PM but we were able to get in about an hour early.. We found everything neat and smelling good, honestly, I would say overall, it's worth the price....
