The hotel is located in Southern Pines area, with many restaurants and shopping centers within a few minute drive. Plenty of free parking outside the hotel, and a nice small outside pool with a small jacuzzi near it. Also near the pool there is a public area with tables and chairs for the hotel guests, which was very nice to be in during the evening (and also a small basketball court).||The building is a 2-story L-shaped building (where the above-mentioned public area is in the middle of the "L"). Breakfast is served near the separated reception area - a typical American breakfast, somewhat updated every morning. Unlike other hotels, it had real plates and cutlery, not plastic ones. Guys - don't heat food in its plastic wrap! No water bottles were delivered to the room like in some other hotels.||The room was actually a suite (I presume the other rooms nearby are also like this) - it was huge, with a complete kitchen, including a big fridge, microwave, dishwasher, a sink, table and chairs, and other various items such as plates, glasses, cutlery etc. The bed was also very comfortable. There were countless areas for storage. The air conditioner was noisy, and we turned it off during the night. We occasionally heard another noisy air conditioner from the oustside. The fridge was also a bit noisy.||Altogether, this is one of the best places for staying...
Read moreI've stayed at this hotel three or four times since 2007. The staff is always courteous and friendly, especially the kitchen staff. The food offered is good, though I miss the Monday-Thursday social (I think it's Tuesday/Wednesday now). The beds are the worst I've encountered in a Residence Inn, though not the worst I've encountered in all of the Marriott chain (I have over 700 nights since I joined Marriott Rewards); that distinction goes to the Springhill Suites in Austin. I bring a queen size memory foam mattress pad when I stay at this hotel and everything is good usually. If you're in the 100 room numbers, I have experienced poor wifi connectivity and attribute that likely to be caused by being below grade and affecting the signal. Fortunately, Residence Inns are one of the few chains within Marriott that I have never encountered a motion sensor tied to the air conditioning, which is why I am leery of trying other hotels in the area, despite the firm beds. ...Nothing like staying at the Pere Marquette Marriott in New Orleans (I believe it's a Renaissance Hotel now) in the Summer or a Courtyard in Houston when you sleep and there is no motion, they shut off the a/c and blow outside air in. I'll be a loyal Residence Inn customer as long as they stay away from motion sensors like so many others in the Marriott group...
Read moreI’m extremely disappointed in the way this hotel handled the disappearance of a valuable item from my room. Within 30 minutes of checking out, I realized I had left my watch behind and immediately called the hotel. I specifically asked them not to enter or turn the room, as it had been a late checkout. Despite this clear request, housekeeping entered the room anyway—and the watch was never seen again.
Only one staff member had accessed the room after I left, yet the hotel claimed they found nothing. I returned in person with the police and conducted a thorough search of both the room and all my belongings—still nothing. Shockingly, the hotel allowed the staff member who cleaned the room to leave before they could be questioned, even though police were involved.
The hotel failed to take even the most basic steps to preserve the room or cooperate in good faith. I’ve since filed a police report and am pursuing this through the appropriate channels, but I’m writing this to warn other guests: if something goes missing, don’t expect accountability or urgency from this property. I travel frequently and have never experienced such a careless and evasive response to a serious issue.
To clarify this is a franchised Marriott operated by Huntington Hotel Group and owned by...
