Update: I can no longer recommend this restaurant and am revising my previous 5 star review. We've been coming here for years. However the customer service received today was abysmally poor. To start, the guy who took our orders must either be an owner or related to the owners judging by how he treated our table. We sat down and when he came over he scolded us for the table being moved 2 inches away from the wall because “it could be very bad” referencing the stainless steel soy sauce containers being at risk of falling off (we are grown adults who are more than capable of making sure they don’t fall off the table) . A better way of handling that situation would’ve just been to let us relocate the soy sauce to the middle of the table instead of shoving the table back.
The next issue was his rudeness when I asked if I could sub out a roll in the Omo box that cost the exact same as the one that was in the box. I was met with a cold “we don’t do substitutes here” and I was like okay, that’s interesting and just dealt with the California roll that is offered. This still makes no sense as the California roll and the spicy crab roll that I requested are the same price.
The final straw was when I went to get my check as I had an appointment I had to get to and the guy cut me off and said “we bring the checks to the table” I told him that I need to leave now and he walked away and had some other lady check me out. I wouldn’t have been in a rush if the food didn’t take 30 minutes to get to our table but it is what it is. I even mentioned in my previous review that the wait is usually long, but I didn’t need attitude when I went to go get my check.
I don’t know if this guy has control issues or what, but his lack of customer service ensured that I’ll no longer be dining at Omo or recommending it to anyone else.
Previous review: As someone who spent a couple of years in Japan this place really brought back some memories! Their ramen was top notch! Really enjoyed their sushi as well. Definitely give this place a try, it's a bit smaller and there might be a short wait but it's...
Read moreWent to this place from my daughter’s suggestion. OMO did not DISAPPOINT. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by lovely staff. Sat immediately and asked our drink order. The smells in this place were absolutely amazing. We ordered 3 appetizers, 4 rolls and 5 entrees. It was a busy Friday night and the wait time was very appropriate. 1 entree did take longer than others . Server apologized very profusely. However, we did not mind. Good food takes time. 😂 We got Gyoza . Traditional dumpling with a slight crispy bottom and a tangy soy sauce to complement it Crab Rangoon x 2 perfectly sweet , crispy and that mayo sauce was on point. Rolls Snowing mountain roll . OMG the best spicy crab roll ever Hokkaido Roll , very interesting flavor combination but the wasabi cream sauce made this perfect The volcano Roll x 2 . Deep fried rice balls. The whole table was fighting for the last one. That’s how good they were. Entrees included 2x teriyaki box deluxe Teriyaki OMO Rice bowl Chicken Noodle bowl Shrimp Curry with extra shrimp
The boxes omg, lots of food for little price. Makes it better as you can choose the sides
The bowls were both delicious with tender and flavorful chicken
Curry was excellent, it’s an Asian yellow curry. I personally could’ve used more spice. I love Indian curry . The tempura 🍤 shrimp was interesting inside the curry. So tender and flavorful. My only complaint was I want more sauce. (They put plenty) but I like more 😂
Now for the most amazing part. All that food plus 5 drinks was only $120 . We’ve been to competitor of like places and spent almost $300 for the same things. This place is by far one of the best in Springfield and really cheap. And in a decent...
Read moreAs someone from Chicago who’s tried countless Japanese restaurants, I can confidently say this spot in Springfield, MO truly blew me away.
From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed by a beautifully designed interior that captures the essence of Japan. The standout feature is the stunning sakura tree placed right at the entrance, setting a peaceful and elegant tone for the entire dining experience. The warm lighting, wooden accents, and minimalist decor made the atmosphere feel both authentic and inviting. It felt like stepping into a quiet corner of Kyoto.
The food was just as impressive as the ambiance. We started with the crab rangoons and sweet potato tempura—both were incredibly light and crispy, with absolutely no greasiness. The rangoons were creamy and rich inside, while the tempura had that natural sweetness that paired beautifully with the dipping sauce.
For the main dishes, we tried the chicken katsu and Japanese ramen, and this is where the magic really happened. You could truly taste the umami in every bite. The katsu was perfectly breaded and juicy. The ramen broth was rich, balanced, and clearly made with care—honestly, I’ve never tasted something this umami-rich even back home in Chicago.
We ended the meal with their signature dessert, and it was a bomb—the perfect sweet finish to an already amazing meal. Rich, decadent, and beautifully presented, it left us speechless.
Everything we ordered tasted carefully crafted, and you could tell the kitchen takes pride in their work. This isn’t just a place to eat—it’s an experience.
If you’re in Springfield or just passing through, do not miss this place. It’s a rare gem, and I’m already looking forward to...
