I just stayed at the Microtel in Springville. The location was good, the room was clean, and the staff were pretty helpful. So, for the basics, it’s just fine. You can read this and know the hotel is just fine.
However, for this class of hotel, I’d expect better for breakfast. This was the most basic continental breakfast I’d seen in a hotel in a long time. It was not only lacking in options, but was lacking a bit in food safety principles. There were two kinds of juice, water, milk, a waffle maker, a few choices in cereal, a toaster with the most basic bread options or a plain bagel, a bowl full of hard boiled eggs, and a singular pump dispenser of one flavor of yogurt. I should add that the hard boiled eggs and yogurt were sitting out unrefrigerated. No granola, no danish, no options of multiple flavors of individually packed yogurt in a little mini-fridge. No oatmeal. If you didn’t like waffles or cereal, your options were very limited.
I tried two of the hard-boiled eggs, and both of them, once peeled, had a strong sulfur smell and I couldn’t force myself to eat them. Were they bad because they hadn’t been refrigerated? Was it just random chance? Was there nothing wrong with them and they just smelled funny? Maybe, but all I had for breakfast that morning was some yogurt and two pieces of basic buttered wheat toast (they had some jelly options, I just didn’t use them). And, why was there just a single tub of yogurt instead of the individually packaged options that would give me a better indication of how fresh the food was?
It could have been better. For breakfast alone, I would prefer to stay somewhere else. But, the rest of the hotel was just fine.
Added: It’s close to the freeway, and while I didn’t think there was excessive noise, my wife had trouble sleeping due to noise from trucks passing on the interstate. I also didn’t think the pillow options were great; it was hard to get...
Read moreThe property is beautiful and clean and the staff was very nice and accommodating until the morning I checked out. When I checked in I was told if need be I could have a later check out time of 12:00 and to let them know if that was needed. I thought great, but I probably won’t need it. Then the morning I was to check out I slept later than planned and called the front desk to ask for that later check out. The front desk clerk told me with an attitude, “oh I see your local, so the latest check out time I can offer you is 11:30.” I told her that I was offered a 12:00 late check out originally and asked why that would be different. She said it was policy to only allow a 11:30 check out for locals and everyone else could check out at the 12:00 time. I told her that didn’t make any sense and she preceded to tell me that it cost them more money to have a later check out time because their cleaning crew is waiting to clean my room...I have to mention that half the hotel is empty and there are more than enough rooms to rent out. I told her the policy doesn’t make any sense and that I thought it was stupid that a customer was told a 12:00 late checkout time but because I’m local I could only have 11:30. She didn’t like that I didn’t like it and told me that if I was going to say those things she would not be offering me a late check out at all. I have stayed 100’s of places and never been treated that way. Later when I checked out she told me that it was only because of my frustration that she got angry, because of course good customer service means when you have an unhappy customer you should get angry and treat them poorly. Wouldn’t recommend staying there if you need a late check out. ...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible check-in experience. My boyfriend booked this room for me while I was traveling, and the hotel refused to accept his card for incidentals over the phone. I explained I only had cash at the time. I went out of my way at 10pm to load money onto my own card just to meet their policy. When I returned, the front desk lady was flat-out rude. Instead of doing her job, she kept cutting me off, saying there was no money on my card (there was, because I had just put it there), and tried to refuse to check me in. She talked over me the entire time, gave me zero chance to explain, and even threatened to cancel my reservation altogether. The only reason I wasn’t left stranded was because I told her I’d call the person who booked the room and let him know what she was doing. Only then did she suddenly decide to check me in. I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels while traveling, and this was by far the most unprofessional and disrespectful front desk experience I’ve ever had. If this is the kind of treatment guests can expect, I would strongly recommend taking your business elsewhere. In the morning My son also found feces on what he thought was a clean towel when he was getting out of the shower. When I asked the front desk for a new towel the guy said “he doubts the towel was dirty” after seeing some of the other reviews idk how it would be that hard to believe. Dirty sheets from some, someone found a vibrator once…I’m shocked this hotel is still in business. I took a picture of the towel after I told him to drop it because...
